5.1.1.2 ECM and Monitoring Schematic Diagram
Schematic diagram of ECM (Engine Controller) and monitoring system is shown below.
MC (Machine Controller) collects the data, monitoring system analyses it, and DLU (Data Logging Unit) stores it.
Data stored in DLU can be displayed on PC or palm computer.
Between ECM and MC, there is only actuator angle sensor data.
ECM receives and judges data from respective sensors.
Monitoring system does not record faults analyzed by ECM.
If ECM or MC judges a fault as heavy fault, engine is stopped as follows.
Heavy fault judged by ECM:
Rack of fuel injection pump is fixed to stop position by operating the actuator.
Heavy fault judged by MC:
Rack of fuel injection pump is moved forcibly to stop position by turning OFF stop solenoid power supply and
ECM power supply simultaneously.

5.1.1.3 Samples of Monitoring Display
Samples of monitoring data are shown below.
Events are recorded on time basis. Status and frequency distribution are also recorded.
Status and location of fault, which were conventionally unclear, can be clarified by referring machine operating
status.
For detailed explanation of monitoring, refer to Monitoring of each model in 3. Function and Construction.
For details of inspection items by fault recorded during monitoring, refer to 5.1.2.1 Abnormal Record Check in
Troubleshooting.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Samples of events are tabulated below.
Data on faults (failure type, failure occurrence time and failure release time)
caused in a period from ON to OFF of key switch is recorded.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Data on engine stopping due to sensor faults (governor angle sensor faults) is tabulated below.
If a fault arises, its time, hour meter reading and frequency of faults can be found.
Cause(s) of fault can be found from past fault data even if failure does not arise during checking,
with the help of operators information on engine stopping.

5.1.1.4 MC Control Specifications
Specifications for internal processing of MC (Machine Controller) and ECM (Engine Controller) are shown below.
Detailed specifications for each sensor, refer to 5.1.4 Sensors.
5-1-1-12
TROUBLESHOOTING
Engine Control Specifications for MC (Machine Controller) and ECM (Engine Controller)
Functions:
Engine is controlled by machine controllers (MC(A) and MC(B)) and engine controller (ECM).
Engine Start/Stop Control:
1. With starter switch set to M and ST, engine is operable.
(Engine can be started with starter only.)
2. With starter switch at ST, engine becomes ready to start because ST signal is sent to override by which the
undetected engine speed is masked.
3. When engine starts, the fuel injection amount is regulated to the maximum.
S16R-Y1TAA1 (normal: 86.1%, cold start: 84%)
S12A2-Y1TAA1 (normal: 100%, cold start: 100%)
S6R-Y1TAA1 (normal: 100%, cold start: 93.5%)
S6R-Y2TAA2 (normal: 85%, cold start: 93.5%)
4. With starter switch at OFF or ACC, engine stops when actuator is set to Stop position.
Throttle Control:
Maximum speed when throttle sensor is 1 V.
Minimum speed when throttle sensor is 4 V.
Compensated by straight-line in intermediate range.
Auto Idle Control:
By auto idle switch, MC sends auto idle signal to ECM to adjust engine speed to the preset level.
Preheat Control:
When pressing cold start switch, maximum fuel injection amount at starting is set to the maximum at cold
starting. This setting is kept until starter switch is set to OFF, ACC.
When pressing cold start switch, preheat relay is turned ON.
5-1-1-13
TROUBLESHOOTING
Engine Protection Control:
If engine is abnormal, engine torque is reduced.
If engine is abnormal, engine speed is reduced.
If abnormality of engine continues, engine stops.
Torque Limit Control:
Fuel injection amount is regulated according to actual engine speed as graphed below, using S16R.

Turbo Boost Limit Control:
Fuel injection amount is regulated by turbo boost pressure as graphed below, using S16R.

Direct Control:
With direct control switch ON, if engine speed is not detected, throttle sensor is 0.25 V to 4.75 V, inclusive.
Under the above condition, rack of engine is directly shifted according to signals for throttle sensor:
When throttle sensor is 1 V, rack is at maximum position, and when throttle sensor is 4 V, rack is at minimum
position.
If throttle sensor is less than 0.25 V or less, and more than 4.75 V, throttle sensor is judged to be faulty, and
the above function does not work.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Fault Analysis
1. If throttle signal is less than 0.25 V, or more than 4.75 V, fault is judged to be light fault.
2. If turbo boost pressure is less than 0.25, or more than 4.75, fault is judged to be light fault.
3. If engine speed is not detected, fault is judged to be heavy fault.
4. If actuator is short-circuited or open-circuited, fault is judged to be heavy fault.
5. If actuator position line is short-circuited or open-circuited, fault is judged to be heavy fault.
6. 5-V line (sensor supply voltage) is abnormal, fault is judged to be heavy fault.
7. Engine speed exceeds the threshold speed, it is judged to be heavy fault as overrun (step 1).
Engine speed is fixed to low idle speed.
S16R-Y1TAA1: 1950(1/min) S12A2-Y1TAA1: 2250(1/min)
S6R-Y1TAA1: 1950(1/min) S6R-Y2TAA2: 2000(1/min)
8. Engine speed exceeds the threshold speed, it is judged to be heavy fault as overrun (step 2).
Engine speed is fixed to stop speed.
S16R-Y1TAA1: 2000(1/min) S12A2-Y1TAA1: 2300(1/min)
