Please add specific comments about the student teachers observed strengths
during this teaching practicum and identify areas in which you feel further
development is necessary.
Observed Strengths: /
* Very creative way to introduce ecosystem
*Very good explanation of why yeast is a living
thing.

Areas in which further development is needed:

*Provide students with an instruction sheet as well as
guiding questions to focus their attention on the conten
of the lesson

*Very good preparation for the lesson.

*Reduce the groups to a maximum of four students,

preferably
three.

*the science process skills were evident

throughout the lesson.

*There were no alignment between the objectives and

the activity.

*The students were having discussion

regarding the
experiment.

*Allow students to develop their own understanding from

the
experiment.

*Focus on the entire class. Although the class was very

well behaved
Some of the students were disengaged.

General Comments: It was nice to see students exploring the characteristics of living things using the
yeast investigation. The students were observing, inferring, and communicating. However, the main
objectives of the lesson were not discussed not till
twenty-five minutes into the lesson. Key terms
such as ecosystem, producer, and consumer were not emphasized enough. It appears you have two
lessons, one on characteristics of living thing and the other on Ecosystem.
Aim for Next lesson
Inquiry activity with instructions and guiding questions
Allow students to develop their own understanding

Please add specific comments about the student teachers observed strengths
during this teaching practicum and identify areas in which you feel further
development is necessary.
Observed Strengths: /
* Lesson was properly introduced and prior
knowledge was activated. Previous lesson was
reviewed and the students appear to have
understood previous lesson.
*Good questioning technique refocusing
students attention to the concept of todays
lesson.
*Good job addressing the fact that the fungi
feast on the hawk after it dies.
*The students worked cooperatively to
complete the activity.

Areas in which further development is needed:

*In a 40 minutes class, lecturing for more than 15
minutes makes
the lesson a teacher-centered one

*You were asked to provide students with instructions o

how to complete the activity and you have failed to so a
well on todays
lesson.

*Activity lacks rigor. The students talked about having

have
completed the same project in grade two an
three. The students were not challenged. Students we
recreating the same food
chain used to introduce
the lesson
*Lesson was not differentiate.

General Comments: A lesson on food chain with great questioning techniques. The concept of food
chain was explained and
the students created a chain using the food chain used to introduce. The
lesson. Lesson lacks rigor and was not well differentiated.
