Reflection lesson 4

On Tuesday November 8, 2016, I taught my fourth lesson which was about food
chain. I did this lesson again because my MST and I found that the students need
more help in this lesson. At the beginning of the class I showed them a real chain
and I asked them what we called it? I also showed them pictures of food chain. After
that I showed them video about food chain and I asked them questions related to the
video. In addition, I gave each group different pictures of animals, glue, and paper. I
asked students to order the picture to create a food chain. Moreover, I chose one
students from each group to present the work. At the end I asked them to create their
own food chain. After this class I gave them an exam evaluate their understanding of
the lessons that I taught. For this lesson I used PPT, Video, papers, pictures of animal
and glue.
Before I taught the lesson I was excited because this my fourth lesson. Moreover,
after I taught lesson I felt happy because every things went smoothly without any
problems. Moreover, I felt glad because the students understood the lesson clearly
and they were able to create a food chain. I also felt proud of myself because the
students got a high marks on the test approximately most students got 7 out of ten and
above.
In terms of what were good, I think the best things was that my classroom
management was well. Moreover, I think my time management was good because I
finished the lesson on time and I evaluated students understanding by asking them to
create their own food chain. In addition, I gave each group different animals. I also
gave the low level only 3 pictures, middle level four pictures and high level six
pictures. I also think that my group reinforcement was really effective because it
managed student's behaviour. Furthermore, the individual reinforcement was also
effective because it motived students to participate.
In terms of what was bad, I think the thing that was bad that I didnt tell them story at
the beginning of the lesson. As a result of the students asked me why there is no story
today.
My classroom management went well because I used the rules, individual and group
reinforcement. The individual reinforcement that I used were words and stars. The
group reinforcement that I used was one big start for each group and I wrote the name
of group on it such as group 1, group 2 and etc. Moreover, on the board I wrote the
name of the groups, I gave 1 points for time (speed) , 2 points for answer correctly,
and 2 points for quiet and organization. That means I assessed them on time, answer
correctly and the quiet and organization. In addition, I gave two stars for a group who
get more points and one star for other groups because they did the work. I also used
high five strategy and now they become more familiar with this strategy.
Additionally, I let students to set and work as group to create a food chain. Bruner
observes that "the process of constructing knowledge of the world is not done in
isolation but rather within social context"(Meggitt, 2006).The students were very
motivated to do this lesson. Furthermore, I think my time management was good
because I used the timer and I gave them five minutes to do the activity. On the other

hand I didnt tell them story because I thought that this lesson was only repetition so
no need for the story.
Next time, I will use the storytelling because I think it is very effective to engage
students. I will also use differentiation activities according to student's interest.
