How to set your network settings for DHCP for Windows

Note:

When making any network configuration changes, you must have administrator privileges
on the computer in order to complete these instructions
You may need your Windows CD to complete these instructions

Windows 7
To set your network card for DHCP, follow these steps:
1. Click the Start button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click Network and Internet
4. Click View network status and tasks under Network and Sharing Center
5. Click Change adapter settings on the left navigation bar
6. Right-click on the network adapter who wish to change, such as Local Area Connection
7. Select Properties
8. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
9. Click Properties
10. In the General tab, ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically radio button is
selected
Note: Prior to making this change, right down the IP, Subnet Mask and Default
Gateway information as it will be lost if Obtain an IP address automatically is selection
so you may change the network information at a later time.
11. Click OK twice and exit back to the Desktop
Windows Vista
To set your network card for DHCP, follow these steps:
1. Click the Start button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click Network and Sharing Center
4. Click View Status under Network section for the connection type
5. Click Properties
6. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
7. Click Properties
8. In the General tab, ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically radio button is
selected
Note: Prior to making this change, right down the IP, Subnet Mask and Default
Gateway information as it will be lost if Obtain an IP address automatically is selection
so you may change the network information at a later time.
9. Click OK twice and exit back to the Desktop

Windows XP
To set your Network card for DHCP, follow these steps:
Classic View:
1. Click the Start button
2. Click Settings
3. Select Control Panel
4. Double-click Network Connections
5. Right-click on the Local Area Connection (for your network card)
6. Select Properties
7. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
8. Click Properties
9. In the General tab, ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically radio button is
selected
Note: Prior to making this change, right down the IP, Subnet Mask and Default
Gateway information as it will be lost if Obtain an IP address automatically is
selection so you may change the network information at a later time.
10. Click OK twice
(Non-Classic View)
1. Click the Start button
2. Right-click on My Network Places
3. Select Properties
4. Right-click on your Local Area Connection
5. Select Properties
6. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
7. Click Properties
8. In the General tab, ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically radio button is
selected
Note: Prior to making this change, right down the IP, Subnet Mask and Default
Gateway information as it will be lost if Obtain an IP address automatically is
selection so you may change the network information at a later time.
9. Click OK twice
Windows 2000:
To set your Network card for DHCP, follow these steps:
1. Click the Start button
2. Select Settings
3. Select Network and Dial-up Connections
4. Right-click on Properties
5. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
6. Click Properties
7. In the General tab, ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically radio button is
selected
Note: Prior to making this change, right down the IP, Subnet Mask and Default
Gateway information as it will be lost if Obtain an IP address automatically is
selection so you may change the network information at a later time.
8. Click OK twice
9. Restart your computer

Windows 95/98/ME
1. Click the Start button
2. Select Settings
3. Select Control Panel.
4. Double-click the Network icon.
5. If the Your Network is Not Complete. Do You Want to Continue? Window opens, click the
Yes button.
6. Select the Configuration tab.
7. Select TCP/IP.
8. Click the Properties button.
9. Select the IP Address tab.
10. Select the Obtain an IP Address Automatically option.
Note: Prior to making this change, right down the IP, Subnet Mask and Default
Gateway information as it will be lost if Obtain an IP address automatically is
selection so you may change the network information at a later time.
11. Click OK
12. Save the settings
13. Click OK
Note: Windows may copy files and prompt you for your Windows Operating System CD
14. Restart your computer
Windows NT
1. Click the Start button
2. Select Settings
3. Select Control Panel.
4. Double-click the Network icon.
5. Select the Protocols tab.
6. Double-click TCP/IP->[Your Ethernet Card].
Note: The name of your Ethernet card will appear in place of [Your Ethernet Card].
7. Select the IP Address tab.
8. Select Obtain an IP Address from a DCHP Server.
If a window opens asking you if you want to enable DHCP, click the Yes button.

so you may change the network information at a later time.
9. Click OK.
10. Restart your computer.
