ABSTRACT: The objective of this research was to produce a CO 2 emission

free cementitious material. The GPC is such a vital & promising are.
In this present study the main limitations of fly ash based GPC are slow
setting at ambient temperature and necessity of heat curing are eliminated
by addition of GGBS powder which show considerable gain in strength.
Materials used: Alkaline liquids (12M NaoH and Na2SiO3), fly ash from
thermal power plant Mettur, GGBS from Mangalore suppliers, Karnataka.
Methodology: Four different properties of Flyash and GGBS (F90G10;
F80G20; F70G30; F60G40); The cube specimens of size 100x100x100mm.
For cast properties 1day, 7day and 28days. Compressive strength were
tested. These cubes were cured at ambient temperature.
Result: The result shows that GPC cubes gives strength within 24hours
without water curing at ambient temperature. Also it was observed that the
mix (F60G40) has given maximum compressive strength of 80.50N/mm2 at
28days.
Conclusion: From above results it can be concluded that GPC is considered
to be an eco friendly construction material.
Grey Area:

A proportion of F50G50, F40G60 were not included for the test.

Composition of Na2SiO3 is not mentioned.
Density of GPS is assumed as 2400kg/m3
Volume of total aggregate is taken as 77% of total volume;
Alkaline liquid= (NaOH+Na2SiO3)/(Flyash+GGBS)= 0.4
Na2SiO3/NaOH= 2.5
Sand/Total aggregate= 30%

Experimental Study on Geopolymer concrete

using Steel Fibers
Abstract: The main objective of this paper is to conduct an experimental
program on the mechanical properties of Fiber Reinforced GPC.
Materials Used:
Class F fly ash from Ennore thermal power plant (tested as per IS:38121981)
Coarse aggregate of sizes 12, 20 and 6 mm with fineness modulus of
2.74 and bulk density 1578 kg/m3.
Sand of specific gravity 2.62 and fineness modulus of 3.14.
Alkaline solutions: NaOH of 8M
Superplasticizer: Conplast SP430
Steel Fibres: Hooked end, Cylindrical, Aspect ratio of 50 and tensile
strength of 1100MPa.
Methodology: The mix design of GPC was done as per Srinivasan et.al. For
same mix proportion steel fibers were added to the wet mic in different
proportions such as 0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 % by volume of concrete. Cubes of
15x15x15 cm and cylinder of diameter 15 cm and height 30 cm and Beams
of 10x10x50 cm were cast.
After casting, the specimens were heat cured at 80 0 C for 24 hours and
then air cooled at room temperature and then demoulded. Then the
specimens were air cooled at ambient temperature till the day of testing.
Results:
Compressive strength for 1% steel fiber gives 5% increase over
conventional concrete.
Split tensile strength 1% steel fiber gives 5% increase over
conventional concrete.
Optimum dosage of steel fibers is concluded as 1%.
Grey Area:

Test on workability is not conducted.

Flexural test is not conducted.
Impact test is not conducted.
Composition of Na2SiO3 is not mentioned.

Geopolymer concrete
Abstract: To study the effect of stainless steel fiber and mild steel fiber by
conducting compression, split tensile and flexural strength test.
Materials Used:

Fly ash: Class F from Ennore, Chennai.

GGBS: Iron smelting industry, Chennai.
NaOH of 3.5M.
Na2SiO3 (SiO2/Na2O)=2.2
Sand: Locally available river sand.
Coarse Aggregate: 10 mm nominal size.
Crimped Steel fibres of aspect ratio of 60.

Methodology:
Three GPC mixes of fly ash (50%) and GGBS (50%) in binder stage
were considered with controlled GPC mix, GPC mix added with
stainless steel fibres and GPC mix added with mild steel fibres.
3 Nos. of 100 mm cubes were casted to test the 28 day compressive
strength.
Cylinder of diameter 15 cm and height 30 cm casted for split tensile
test.
Beams of 100x100x500 mm were cast for flexural test.
Percentage of steel fibres is 0.75% by mass of concrete.
Results:
Out of three mixes, the GPC mix with mild steel fibres has better
results after 28 days.
Grey Area:
Impact and workability test not conducted.
Alkaline solution to binder material ratio is not mentioned.
Composition of Na2SiO3 is not mentioned.
