Presidents Message and Report:

Message
The Elections over & I think we can all be thankful for the
results. Either way, those who were elected now have to
represent us all. With that said, I dont know about you, but
Im tired of the elected to say Thank You for your Vote,
but now leave it up to us the experts. No sorry, been
there-done that. Now is when our real work begins & its
up to us to hold them up not only to our expectations &
their jobs, but also to the Constitutional standard of a
peaceful transition of power, that has been the Hallmark of
American Exceptionalism. And not let them forget that this
is STILL; a government of the people, by the people & for
the people. And more than thatWE are the people.
Ill have some more info on our elected officials & how to
stay in touch in the Legislative report. Thank You.
Report
Ok, as most of you know, Southwest Chapter rode in the
Cape Coral Veterans Day Parade. To all who participated,
thank you. Once again youve represented your Chapter
Honorably. But not all went as smooth as we wouldve
liked; our position in the parade was a very poor choice on
the staging coordinators. So, Ill be writing a small note on
behalf of SW Chapter in regards to the parade, to the
coordinators, which will also be shared with the Parade
Organizers, in which I will recommend that next year they
stage all Motorcycle participants together & in a forward
position, to minimize the Accordion effect that always
occurs in these types of events. The stop & go from the
bus that was in front of u in order for them to pass out candy
& allow kids to enter the parade route to pick it up, not only
caused the slowdown of the parade progress as well as a
possible safety issue. Again thanks to all who rode in honor
of those who stood for us.

Vice Presidents Message:

It's time for all Southwest Chapter members to

step up to the plate! I'm asking every one of us
to support the Veterans Christmas Ride on
Sunday, December 18th. Come out for the ride
with a stuffed stocking. You can't ride that day?
Come out and help with registration or staging
or clean-up or whatever. Can't do that? Write a
check to the Chapter which will go 100% to the
veterans. Please do something, even if it's
only a check for $5. Speaking of $5, if you're
going on the ride, please bring a couple of fivedollar bills with you. One is for the registration
fee, the other is for the (optional) all-you-caneat pancake breakfast. Having the right bills will
speed up registration and the food line.
I'm told the residents of the Veterans Home are
already asking if "those bikers" are coming
again this year! Let's make it a great day for
these less-fortunate folks who have served our
great country. Please open your hearts (and
your wallets) to make it a Merry and Memorable
Christmas.
I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a New
Year filled with blessings.
Moe

Meeting called to order at 10:31 AM
Happy birthday wishes to Margie Fisher, Carl Nelson and Don

Presidents Report
Robb spoke about the election being over and the Veterans Day
Parade. Please read the Presidents Message on a previous page
for details.
Vice-Presidents Report:
Moe asked all our chapter members to participate in the Veterans
Christmas Ride to the Veterans Home. He discussed the
conversations he had with the representatives of the sponsors and
we might not get the same level of donations as last year. If not,
we may not be able to give the gift cards to the veterans as we did
last year, and may need to go back to everyone bringing a stuffed
stocking or other gift. Lee County Sheriffs Office and the Punta
Gorda Police Department will escort us again this year. Once our
escort ends in Port Charlotte, Heidi and Roger will help direct
riders that may have gotten separated from the group to the home.
The Punta Gorda Legion and other groups will be invited to join
us and the Director of the home will once again be our Grand
Marshall. Moe attended the HOG meeting (and the meeting room
was full ahem) and invited them to participate in the ride and
also informed them of the pancake breakfast. The Cape Coral
American Legion riders have indicated they will attend.
Sergeant-at-Arms, John Lupo, is looking for more volunteers for
the ride. Will everyone please bring two $5.00 bills because
many people will bring a $20 bill and we may need to make
change? Donations will be accepted up to the start of the ride. He
welcomed our guest, Jules, who is a friend of John Lupo and
Larry.
Secretarys Report:
The minutes from the last meeting were published in the
newsletter. Motion to approve made by Carl Nelson, seconded
by Don Tupper. All in favor, motion passed.
Treasurers Report:
Heidi reported the beginning and ending balance of our account.

newsletter and the Biker Lives Matter patches purchased from
State. Motion to approve made by Gator, seconded by Charlie
Fisher. All in favor, motion passed.

Legislative Report:
Pres. Robb reported that we have postcards for us to send to our
Legislators to congratulate them on their election win. House
Speaker Corcoran has indicated that he will work with motorcyclists
on our issues.
Safety:
Ed is still waiting for an e-mail from Victor for information
regarding contacts for the Safety program at the local high schools,
but so far, Victor is not responding.
Sergeant-at-Arms:
We still need staging assistants for the Veterans ride. Two members
volunteered. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. and that is covered.
Carl has once again volunteered to be a Road Captain and our flag
bearer.
Products:
We now have year pins, Biker Lives Matter patches and ABATE
postcards available for those who want them.
Old Business:
Reminder about Wednesday night Bike Nights at RackEm Billiards.
There are still raffle tickets for the quilts and gun raffle.
VP Moe went to court regarding Adam King. The suspect was
charged with hit and run with a fatality. His next court date is
January 25th and the judge wants the trial to be no later than August
of next year.
New Business:
Asking for volunteers for the Dec. 10th Bike Night in Cape Coral.
There were staging issues at the Ft. Myers Bike Night, which are
being addressed.
There was a biker down at Bayshore and Slater Rd. the day of the
Elvira Run (Oct. 22nd). PR Trustee Gwynne was asked to get more
information from the Lee County Sheriff Office. (LCSO was later
contacted and referred to FDLE, who is investigating the case. We
have to wait 60 days before any information will be released to the
public).
There was another biker down leaving the Ft. Myers Bike Night at
the corner of Rt. 41 & Hancock Bridge Parkway.
The snowbirds are here and dont see us so we need to ride very
defensively!!!

Membership Report:
Heidi reported for the month of October there were 3 renewals
and 5 new members and reminded 7 members their memberships
will expire at the end of November.

Father Toms Message:

Dear Fellow ABATE Members,
Freedom Isn't Free 2016
Yesterday, we celebrated the Veterans who have given so much for our country. However, it
was so much more than what they have given their country. It was what they had given us.
There are thousands who are suffering physical wounds that will last a lifetime and those suffering
from invisible wounds. It is primarily those invisible wounds, in which it is reported that an
average of 22 veterans a day, take their own lives (see: One final note, at the end).
Several years ago, Kathy and I were honored to have attended the dedication of the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial of Southwest Florida. We saw many bikers there and were able to share our
thoughts.
There were a number of speakers and various presentations made. As the program progressed, there were three thoughts that kept
speaking to me during those presentations.
1. Freedom isnt free.
2. A price is paid for that freedom.
3. With freedom, comes responsibility.
Freedom isnt free. There are seven names on that wall who were either friends, classmates, or acquaintances that I knew, starting in
1954. Three of them are kids (and, I say kids because the last time we all saw each other was when we were in our teens) I went to
school with some from the 1st grade. Some, I went fishing with. And, some I skipped school with on Fridays so we could go camping
and hunting. One of them was killed in Quang Nam, somewhere near DaNang on his very last day in Vietnam, having survived a whole
year of duty there; he was killed during a mortar or rocket attack by the NVA while waiting at an LZ for his flight home. Just prior to
his tour, he married a girl I had dated in high school. Another one; I found his marked grave near our family plot, when I buried my
mother a number of years ago.
During the dedication, I thought of the moms and dads who in a way, sacrificed their sons so we could enjoy the freedoms many of us
take for granted, every moment of our lives. It is a price, which seems like it has to be paid with almost every generation o f Americans.
With the freedom we have, the freedom that has cost us so dearly, comes responsibility. We need to ask ourselves, When was the last
time I voted? When was the last time I wrote and/or contacted a legislator on an important issue, including a motorcycling issue?
When was the last time I told one of my children or grandchildren about my service to my country, my fathers service, my grandfathers
service or a relatives service? When was the last time I exercised my freedom to pray for our fighting personnel? When was the
last time I exercised my freedom to place an American flag outside my home on an American holiday? What if all of a sudden, it was
all taken away? How would you react? How would you feel?
During Easter, Christians from all over the world celebrate the freedom that was won for them. The freedom that was won, it wasnt
free. Someone had to pay the price. A Father had to sacrifice His Son.
The Bible says in Romans 3:23, For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. When nations and groups of people have
fallen away and have acted in their very own selfish ways, outside the laws and principles of an honorable society, in a sense that group
has committed sin. And, more often than not, that sin involves people losing their freedom. Likewise, when we have sinned, we are in
rebellion with God and our freedom has become lost, because we have become a slave to that sin. Just like righteous countries will have
to fight, make sacrifices, pay the price to restore order, security, and our freedoms, our God loves us so much that He sent His Son to
die for us, He sent His Son to wage that battle of freedom for us. God wants us to be free in Him to experience the ultimate freedom so
that we are no longer a slave to sin. Once we have attained that freedom then, God will show us our responsibility to Him.
Our American way of life teaches us:
1. Freedom isnt free.
2. A price is paid for that freedom.
3. With freedom, comes responsibility.
Our Christian way of life teaches us:
1. Freedom isnt free.
2. A price is paid for that freedom. Jesus paid the price so that we dont have to.
3. With freedom, comes responsibility.
Most of us clearly understand the American way. Can you accept Gods way?
Will you take the responsibility of your actions/your sins and put them before God, today?
During Easter we remember the death of Jesus. We remember the burial of Jesus, and we remember His miraculous resurrection on the
third day. Would you follow His example today by:
First, dying to sin... ? No one is perfect. God understands this when He tells us in His Word in Romans 3:23: for all have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God 1John 3:5 says: You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. We
must die to sin, ask forgiveness and repent, if we are to identify with Christ, the One who has no sin.

Second, can you bury the sinful nature? This burial is symbolized by the immersion in Water Baptism. Acts 2:38 says: Repent, and each
of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Titus
3:5 says: He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of
regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.
Third, when we die to sin, we have buried the sinful nature, and have taken Jesus into our hearts. Would you like to be resurrected with
Him? In John 3:7, Jesus says, "Do not be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' You cannot inherit the spiritual realm
of Heaven until you have that spiritual resurrection of being born from above. How could one be saved and happy unless his inner nature
and heart is at one with God? Ask yourself, Is my inner nature and heart at one with God? A sinful nature must be transformed
by death, burial, and resurrection, if we are to be at peace during this life and to spend eternity with Him.
This is just between you and God. It is a personal relationship, not religion. Youre not being asked to join a church or become part of a
congregation. Just take a moment and focus on Him. In your heart, just ask Him if He is real, to speak to you in your spirit. Youll
know. Forget about everything else around you and just focus on Him. Its very personal.
Now, ask yourself, Isnt it time to make this right with God? If you are ready to accept this gift and receive what Jesus is providing
for you, this can all be accomplished by a simple prayer and a willingness to allow God to transform your life. Wouldnt it be great to
say, I have been resurrected with Jesus?
If you are ready to receive Him and to receive assurance that if the Lord was to come for you this very day, you would be with Him in
Paradise, then please pray: "Dear God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of Jesus, my heavenly Father, I confess that
I am a sinner and have been separated from You. I ask forgiveness of my sins. I repent and accept this gift of repentance. I confess
with my mouth that your son Jesus is my savior and died for me. I accept that He paid the price for my freedom, I believe in my heart
that You raised Him from the dead. I receive Jesus into my heart and ask Him to become the center of my life. I ask, in the Name of
Jesus. Amen."
Jesus will take you just the way you are. He wants you to partner with Him in resolving the difficulties and the overcoming of sin in
your life. When I came to Jesus, I had a lot of issues. I still have some. It would have been easy to wimp-out and have said that I will
come to Him when things improve and I get some garbage removed. But, isnt it better to face things with Him, than without Him?
The Lord bless you, and keep you; The Lord make His face to shine upon you, and, be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance
upon you, and, give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26).
One final note: If you are one of those suffering from an invisible wound, it is okay to talk with someone about it. If you are suffering
from guilt, even if it is something that happened in which you may not have had too much control over, you can be released into freedom
through the blood of Jesus. If God can forgive you (He already has), then you can forgive yourself and live the more abundant life He
promises.
Blessings and hugs,
Pastor Tom (Estero River ABATE Life Member and Southwest ABATE Chapter Chaplain) and Chaplain Kathy (SW ABATE Life
Member)- tprovenz@comcast.net 239-267-8641
