Descriptive Questions
Q1. Describe the importance of natural resources in the economy of Bangladesh.
Answer: Agriculture, forests, minerals, solar energy, water, etc are important natural
resources of Bangladesh. These can aid in poverty reduction, ensure food security and
standardize life-style and accelerate economic development. Land is the most important
resource of Bangladesh. The soil is very fertile so crops can be cultivated at a low cost.
Making maximum use of this fertile land will accelerate production of agricultural crops,
flowers, etc and use of technology can further enhance production. Cultivating various types
of fruits can meet nutritional requirements of the country and excess amount can also be
exported. Water is a vital resource as economic development of agriculture and industry, as
well as communication system, depends on it. Use of solar energy, mineral and forest
resources can ensure economic sustainability as a major portion of national income comes
from these resources. The natural resources contribute to development of mills and industries.
This creates employment opportunities, ensures that demands of country can be met and
enables production of export-oriented goods. Thus, natural resources are an important factor
in the economy of Bangladesh.
