Common Lesson Plan Grading ECE

Grading Possible 30 points
List the Common Core/State Standard(s) to be addressed
in this lesson:
Demonstrates knowledge that a symbol can represent
something else (e.g., a word can stand for an object, a
name of a person, a picture for the real object.)
Demonstrates motivation and engagement in reading
activities.
List the Learning Objective(s) to be addressed in this
lesson. Use the following format: Students will be able
to

Students will be able to recognize a sequence pattern

between the objects in the nursery rhyme. Students will
be able to catch on to the order and complete it
themselves.
Describe how the objective is relevant to students lives.
Rationale

Students will be able to recognize sequences and use

them in their own work.
List the words relevant to the content area that you will
either introduce and/or review during your lesson and List
the materials.

Box with the house on it, Mother Goose book with the
1
nursery rhyme The House that Jack Built, pieces of the
different objects that go inside of the box ( malt, crumbled
horn, maiden, forlorn, tattered, torn, priest, shaven,
shorn, sowing)
ASSESSMENT
5 points
Pre-Assessment: Describe the instrument or process
you will use to measure students level of understanding
toward the learning objective(s) prior to teaching the
lesson.

I will see how many know what a nursery rhyme is. I will
go over the objects being used to help tell the rhyme. We
will discuss the different words in the rhyme that they do
not usually hear every day.
Post-Assessment: What will you do with post-assessment

and how will you will measure students level of understanding toward
the learning objectives after teaching the lesson. Are you documenting
each childs learning?

1
I will have them tell me what a nursery rhyme is. I will see if they can tell me
what the objects are that we used from the book. I will also see if they can
tell me the order in which the objects are mentioned in the rhyme.
TECHNOLOGY
Describe the instructional and/or assistive technology that
you plan to incorporate into the lesson to enhance
instruction and student learning. Explain if you cannot use
this for the lesson.
We will only using Google for looking up definitions to
words we do not know or are confused about.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Describe the
accommodations/differentiation/modifications you will use
to meet the needs of all learners and accommodate
differences in students learning, culture, language, etc. *
Think of developmental needs of children in early
childhood.
I will have definitions of the words printed off on a sheet
1
of paper for the student(s) who have trouble remembering
them and their corresponding word in the rhyme.
I will aslo change a few words if it makes it a little easier
to understand.
MANAGEMENT
Identify the management and motivational strategies you will use to
meet student behavioral/developmental needs in order to keep students
on task and actively engaged throughout the lesson.

I will tell that when we get done talking about the new
words we have to know for the story then we can read it
and do the activity. I will divide the class into two different
groups so that everyone can listen to the story and do the

activity. I will tell them that if they cannot be respectful

when we are reading it then they will not get a turn with
the activity.

LESSON IMPLEMENTATION
10 points
I Do
(Teacher introduces lesson and models expected
outcome of learning objectives)
Describe how you will activate student interest and
present the learning objective in an engaging way (this is
your lesson opening).
I will use out attention getter; Open, shut them. Give a
little clap. Open, shut them. Put them in your lap. I will
have the objects we are using up on the board so they
can see it and we can discuss what they are.
Describe what instructional strategies you will use to
model/explain/demonstrate the knowledge and skills
required of the objective. (cite theories/theorists)
I will first ask what objects they already know and have
them tell me what they know about it. We will then go
over the other objects by looking up their meanings and
how to use them in a sentence.
Describe how you will check for students understanding
before moving on to guided practice.
We will go back over all the objects again before actually
reading the story. I will have them tell me what they are.
We Do
(Teacher engages students in guided practice)
Describe the learning activities you will use to provide students
multiple opportunities to practice the skills and content needed to meet
the learning objective(s).

We will read the nursery rhyme and talk about what

objects correspond with in the rhyme.
Describe how you will check for students understanding before
moving on to independent practice.

They will tell me what order the objects go in when we

read the rhyme. We will then read the rhyme and use the
objects. We will do this twice so each group has a chance
to insert the objects.
You Do
(Students engage in independent practice)
Describe what the students will do to independently practice the
knowledge and skills required by the lesson objectives? (this is the postassessment)

The students will listen to me read the rhyme and insert

the corresponding object as they hear it appear in the

rhyme. They will then be given the opportunity to do it
themselves.
Lesson Closing
Describe how you will reemphasize the lesson objective
and any skills/content that were taught in an interactive
manner (whole/small group, etc.).
We will go back over the objects and what order they
belong in the rhyme. I will read the rhyme to them again
and let them manipulate the objects again (if time
permits).
Reflection; What happened?
They loved being able to manipulate the objects and
apart of telling them rhyme. It took a bit of time to explain
and review everything before we could actually read
through the rhyme and use the objects but once it started
they had a blast! They got stuck on the cow because it
was one of the few that they knew right away so they
were talking about it and didnt hear me say it. It was
really cute because when they realized was waiting on
them they were really worried that they messed up the
rhyme.
Successes?
Having the box and objects made the nursery rhyme
seem way more interactive and made it worth going
through all the explaining to make sure they understand
the words and what they meant.

What would you change next time?

I would probably make the objects a little bigger along
with the door opening in the box so that everything is
easier to see and manipulate.
