FOREWORD
This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Surgical
Dressings Sectional Committee had been approved by the Medical Equipment and Hospital Planning Division
Council.
The first-aid kits specified in this standard are applicable for general use. Although, some industrial and commercial first-aid requirements may be met by this ket but the kit is generally not applicable for providing specialized
first-aid treatment.
For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value,
observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960
Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised). The number of significant places retained in the rounded off
value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

Subject to the other requirements of this standard the

first-aid kit shall contain each item in minimum
quantities as specified in Table 1. Each item shall
conform to the relevant Indian Standard or monographs
of Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP), British Pharmacopoeia
(BP), or United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) as given
in Table 1.

Each first-aid kit shall be packed in a durable container

such that each item of contents is easily accessible. Care
shall be taken to ensure that the material from which
the container is fabricated is suitable for the
environment for which the kit is intended with respect
to the possible effect of ambient temperature and
humidity on deterioriation of any of the contents.
