Length of Lesson:
School:
30 minutes
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
The student will demonstrate their understanding of solving equations using an array, by creating a screencast of
themselves developing an array on MS Word to solve an equation and check their answer that was given to
them by the teacher.
The students should be able to complete this task with 100% accuracy.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
CCSS.Math.Content.3.OA.A.3 Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in
situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and
equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.1
MATERIALS:
Worksheet/Checklist
Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of each part of an algebraic equation by providing visual representations
and written reflections on the meaning of each part of the equation.
We will refer to the screencast created within this lesson as we continue to explore the multiplication tables and equations.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and for those ready for
enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course.
4. TTW give examples of screencasts the students have already seen before and
Procedures:
1. After the introduction TTW had out the worksheet/checklist.
2. TSW each move to their own computer.
3. Using the worksheet/checklist as a guide TSW access the link given on the
Closure:
1. For closure the students will write an exit ticket about what they liked or did not
like about the lesson.
ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
Formative assessment in this lesson plan would be analyzing the completion of the students screencast. How
thought out was it, did they solve the equation correctly, and did they follow the checklist.
The assessment is not only about their completion of the task correctly, but it also about their comprehension of
using an array to solve an equation.
MODIFICATIONS:
I am aware that modifications will be made for students who did not master the objectives and for those
ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course.
Equation:
5g=20
Checklist:
_____3. Start recording your screencast explain what you are demonstrating for the viewers
before you start to develop anything.
_____4. Put your equation onto the document first, solve it, and then build your array.
_____5. Explain to the viewers how you can use the array to solve the equation, or double check
your answer.
_____6. Save the screencast as a mp4 file named ProblemSolvingWithArrays.
Equation:
5g=20
5g/5=20/5
g=4
