with the ball
If the ball lands on the other teams side and hits the ground, then the team who
attacked gains a point.
Students can use their arms and hands in any way to get the ball over to the other
side, however they cannot use their feet

Session: 40 minutes
1. Instant activity: (3-5 minutes)
- Different sized balls, students will, either by themselves or with partners, practice
keeping the ball up in the air for as long as they can, they can use any parts of
their bodies.
2. Introduction: (1.5-2 minutes)
- Introduce net/wall games (We are doing net games -without the nets)
- Game is called meteor ball, start with progressions to playing the game
- Today we are going to work on: movement (keeping the ball up), attacking
(getting the ball onto the other teams side) and team work.
- Introduce our signal: FREEZE. Students will then drop what they are doing,
freeze and eyes on the teacher
3. Allow students to play meteor ball. (5 minutes)
- Split into four groups (they will stay in these groups for the class)
- Tell them they must try and get the ball onto the other teams side to earn a point
- Boundaries are outside of the cones, which ever team put the ball out of bounds
then turns the ball over to the other team
FREEZE
4. Progression 1: ( 6-8 minutes)
-each group tries to keep the ball up in the air without touching the ground or
wall and must keep it in their area.
-balls can start larger and then get smaller if the activity is too easy
FREEZE
5. Progression 2: (6-8 minutes)
- teams will now play against the team across from them
- their goal is to try and keep the ball in the air while going back and forth
-teams can hit the ball as many times before getting it over to the other team
- see how many times both teams can get it over the net to each other without it
hitting the floor.
FREEZE
6. Progression 3: (6-8 minutes)
- students will now work together to attack the other team by getting the ball over
and hitting the other teams floor area
-each team has up to 3 hits before they must try and get it over to the other teams
area.
7. Conclusion: (5 minutes)
- Get students to come to meeting area and bring in any extra equipment
- Talk about what they learnt today, how they felt
- Go over debriefing questions

Debriefing questions:
how can you make your shot more difficult to receive?

Where should you bounce the ball?

What happens if the ball touches the ground on your side of the court?
How do you prevent the other team from scoring a point?
What could we have done to make it more challenging or easier?
Did you feel like you were able to challenge yourself during the activities? Or was it too
easy?
Are there other ways to play or add a progression to this game?
Was there a chance to use the game performance assessment instrument?
