Student Athlete Tutor (2016-present)
Ms. Washington is currently a Student Athlete Tutor for the student athletes currently
enrolled at James Madison University. She is paired up with students taking classes that
she has taken and excelled at in the past, and works weekly with them on study skills, test
preparation and general review of the content of the class.
TEACH Ambassador (2015-Present)
Ms. Washington is currently a TEACH Ambassador for the College of Education on the
campus of James Madison University. In addition to tutoring students as they prepare for
their Praxis Core exams, she advises students on the process of applying to the College of
Education and represents the College at various open houses and events. She is co-chair
of TEACH for the 2016 to 2017 school year.
Discovery Station Learning Center (2014-Present)
Ms. Washington is currently a teachers aide at the Discovery Station Learning Center
daycare located in South Riding, Virginia. As a teachers aide, she works in all of the
classrooms with children as young as infants through fifth grade. She assists teachers in
their day-to-day activities in the classroom.
GrandPEAS (2013-Present)
Ms. Washington is currently a volunteer for a program called GrandPEAS. The program
is geared towards grandparents who are the guardians of their grandchildren. While the

adults attend a meeting, she helped to entertain the children. She has led games and
activities, as well as has helped with homework when needed.
Kids Klub (2013-2014)
Ms. Washington was previously a member of Kids Klub, a club that aims to volunteer in
schools and with the children of the Harrisonburg community. Through this club she has
volunteered for GrandPEAS, and has also volunteered at the Valley Malls Monster
Mash, an annual Halloween costume contest.
Early Childhood Education (2011-2013)
Ms. Washington took the Early Childhood Education class her junior and senior year at
Freedom High School. The high school ran a preschool through this class, and she was
assigned a preschooler to work with one on one. Through this class, she has written
lesson plans that included multiple math, science, or language activities, along with story
time and leading indoor physical fitness activities in the case that the playground would
be closed.
National Honor Society (2011-2013)
Ms. Washington has participated in several volunteer activities including: ringing the
bell for the Salvation Army (4 hours), collecting money for the Britta Life straws (2
hours), volunteering at a local drumline competition (4 hours), volunteering at the
Buffalo Trails Elementary School book fair (6 hours), and running participant check in
at the Mercer Middle School March Madness Tournament (6 hours).
Counselor-in-training at Cub Run Rec Center for Fairfax County Parks & Recreation (20082010)
Ms. Washington worked as a counselor-in-training (CIT) for three years, during the
summer months. There she worked with a counselor to help plan games and activities
such as crafts, for the campers, who ranged from five (5) years old to twelve (12) years
old. During their daily pool hour, she kept an eye on the campers while they swam. She
also took on more leadership positions during field trips, where she would have to help
keep the counselor to keep the campers together while out in large areas, such as the
National Zoo or water parks.
