PAWEES2016DaejeonStatement
Oct 21, 2016
The PAWEES 2016 conference and annual meeting were
held during October 20-21, 2016 in Daejeon, South
Korea with the main theme of Sustainable Paddy Water
Management in Water-Energy-Food NEXUS. Total 57
abstracts were submitted, and research papers with 31
orals and 26 posters were presented and discussed in the
conference. In the annual meeting, various agendas were
discussed to strengthen future cooperation on research
among parties. The PAWEES members have mutually
agreed to the following statements:

1.

The international journal of PAWEES, Paddy and Water

Environment (PWE), has been well recognized in the
disciplines of agricultural science, engineering, and
environmental science. PWE has published more than
700 manuscripts since its first issue in 2003. It has been
listed in the SCIE since December 2009, and its latest
Impact Factor (IF) of 0.871 was released in December
2015. The PAWEES members agreed to develop
measures to enhance the impact factor including the
encouragement of special issue publication.

2.

As a consequence of fast growing world recognition of

PWE, the number of submission to the journal has
dramatically increased. The PAWEES members agree to
continuously support the publication of the PWE and
maintain its quality by introducing the member
registration system at the PAWEES website. The PWE
journal scope needs to be clearly defined and addressed
on the journal homepage in order to deal with ever
increasing paper submission from various disciplines.

3.

The activities of the PAWEES including the PWE

editorial shall expand in cooperation with national and
international institutions as well as individual experts
from other paddy cultivation regions or societies of the
world.

4.

The PAWEES members will continue to explore the

opportunity for international collaboration of mutual
interest. In particular, the three member communities
agreed to endeavor to develop programs for young
scientist networking including student exchange scheme
or workshop. Creation of additional awards for young
generation and post-doctoral scientist should be
considered further in future.

5.

The PAWEES has discussed a possibility of publishing an

English book for paddy farming and environmental issues
from the Springer. The PAWEES hopes to publish it in
the near future.

6.

The PAWEES 2017 International Conference will be

hosted by the TAES and be held in Taiwan. The purpose
of the next coming conference is to discuss the issues
related to paddy and water environment. The specific
theme of the conference will be announced later. The
PAWEES members hope that PAWEES 2017 will provide
an opportunity to enhance the exchanges of our
knowledge and experience among participants.
