To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experiences
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

Field Experience: 1
2nd3rd
I have shown thorough to advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed
during this field experience:
Throughout my Third Stage I learned a great deal about myself, and my approach to teaching. For one, creativity in lesson planning is
very important, showing that you care about what you teach will inspire the students to learn and take responsibility for their own education.
The competency that I have most developed during my stage would be, competency 4. (To pilot teaching/learning situations that are
appropriate to the students concerned and to the subject content with a view to developing the competencies targeted in the programs of
study.) I was able to teach the content of the course, but in a fun an interactive way. I was able to get my students to engage positively in
classroom discussion and activities. I made sure to make my lessons centered on current and relevant material, using new technology, such
as Prezi. For example; I noticed that many of my Secondary Three Students were interested in the Election taking place with in the United
States. I was not sure on how to implement the specific issues from the election into my lesson plans. Although, Once we began reading the
Novel "Lord of the Flies" I quickly discovered the importance of understanding the concept of leadership. I formulated a quick debate on the
topic of whether or not Donald Trump would be a good leader. We watched a pro and con video that helped my class formulate their
arguments. The students were extremely passionate about the debate and at the end of the lesson the students wrote compelling reflections.
I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this field
experience:
The one critique that I have always received when I speak in front of crowds is that sometimes I get overly
excited and my word choices could be seen as unprofessional (for example, using 'so' to much). Itssomething
that I have always struggled with because I become passionate about a topic and want to share it with others.
Also to when I speak or read to fast, I do not pronounce words properly, so reading a passage or article ahead
of time is an important strategy for me. I have always been told that I have a strong presence in a classroom and
feel at ease in a classroom environment. Sometimes I will use terms like, yeah or yup, which should not be used
when teaching students proper English. Throughout My Third Field Experience I have made it a priority to work
on Competency One. My professionalism is something I pride myself of, although at times when I get to
comfortable in a situation I can use language that is not appropriate for the given context. I must always
remember that teachers are their biggest ambassador for acceptable classroom behavior and participation.
I will also use my electives, to take classes that I'm passionate about so I develop a broader view of the world and my own
learning. Also to I will continue to attend my arts classes outside of school to further my skills in fine art, so I could possibly use my
talent later on in my career. I will also attend seminars that are provided by McGill to further my understanding in many topics.
Finally, I hope to join a sports team at McGill to better understand the importance of teamwork and meet new people; meeting
people is essential to learning and broadening your view of the world.
