Experimental Study on Welded Metal of 2.25Cr-1Mo-0.25V Steel by

Step-cooling Heat Treatment
SONG Liping, SUN Ronglu
(Tianjin Polytechnic University, Tianjin 300387, China)
Abstract2.25Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel was used for hydrogenation reactor. The temper embrittlement was evaluated as the
shift of 54 Joule transition temperature(vTr54) by Charpy v-notch impact test. A series of 2.25Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel welds were
prepared using manual arc. The weld metals were analyzed in the post weld heat treatment (PWHT) and PWHT followed by
step-cooling (SC) heat treatment condition. The weld metals were measured by welding rod of the same trademark but
different batch have distinct different tendency of brittleness. In the post-weld heat-treated (PWHT), the notch toughness
required for weld metal is 54 J which is not more than -60, PWHT condition followed by step-cooling (SC), 54J is not more
than -40. The results show that the low impact welding seam may relate to content of Mn. the reason for temper brittleness
is that the content of phosphorus and carbonization segregation on the grain boundary. The impact toughness of the samples
corresponding to intergranular fracture is lower. The reason for temper brittleness is that the carbide and oxide of phosphorus,
manganese and molybdenum segregation on the grain boundary.
