Praxis Core Analysis

Aspiring education teachers in Nevada are all required to take a

series of basic skills tests called the Praxis Core. The Praxis Core
offers three basic skill tests that include math, reading and writing all
of which include multiple-choice questions. All three tests can be
taken in any order and can be completed all at once or individually of
one another. In Nevada the passing scores are as follows, math
requires a score of 150 and reading requires a score of 156.The
writing test requires a score of 162 and includes a written portion of
the exam. After successful completion of all three tests a student
would then be eligible to enter their education programs at UNLV,
NSC or UNR. Passing the practice core tests is an essential
requirement towards licensure and should be prepared for greatly.
As I prepared myself for the Praxis core exams I felt very
advantageous because there are several free study tools out their
for students to take advantage of. I took great advantage of the
study companions on the ETS.org site for math, reading and writing.
As more of a visual learner as myself, I always take to YouTube for
various academic material and Praxis Core preparation was not an
exception. Practice tests are also tools I feel prepare me very well for
standardized tests as they prepare me for the real thing. After
reviewing for the Praxis core tests using different resources I felt
very confident when it was time to test my skills.
Once it was time to take my practice exams for the Praxis core
reading, math and writing I felt very intimidated from the beginning.
The practice exams I took were much harder than I could have

imagined. My scores I say more likely than not were a reflection of
how seriously I took my studying. Math is something I am very
strong in which is why I received an 87% on the Practice core
practice exam. Writing is something that is very straightforward in
my eyes and I received a 90% on that practice exam. One of the
tests that I so greatly underestimated was the reading portion of the
Praxis core. I assumed it would be reading straightforward passages
and answering questions as follows and thats why I felt I received a
very poor score of 34%. On the other hand this was great practice
for me and showed me exactly were I need to concentrate my
studies.
In order to pass all three Praxis core tests, preferably all at once I
feel it is essential for me to focus most of my time on the reading
test. According to my scores I am on track to passing my writing and
math test in exclusion to the reading exam. I feel working on my
critical thinking skills and brushing up on my vocabulary words would
help me a great deal. To accomplish this I will be reading a different
word from the dictionary every day and taking several different
reading exams online. I plan on also enrolling in a praxis core review
class as well preferably for reading. Over all the practice exams
really opened my eyes to a test that isnt as simple as I made it out
to be,
