Black Sect Tibetan Buddhist (BTB) Feng Shui

Origins of BTB Feng Shui

Black Sect Tibetan Buddhist (BTB) Feng Shui was brought to the world by Grandmaster Professor
Thomas Lin Yun. Professor was born in Beijing, China and he started studying Black Sect Tantric
Buddhism when he was only six years old. At 17 years old he moved to Taiwan and continued his
training with masters there.
Black Sect or Black Hat Buddhism is one of four
main sects in Tibetan Buddhism. The different
colored hats are sometimes used to symbolize
different attitudes in esoteric concepts. The black
hat is known for critical judgment or wisdom
this also corresponds to the color black in feng shui
representing the water element and the depths of
wisdom.

Differences between BTB and Other Schools

Bagua Placement As opposed to traditional feng shui which uses a compass, in BTB Feng
Shui we place the bagua according to the primary mouth of chi in a structure (the front
door).

Ritual & Ceremony use of meditations, mantras, and symbolic objects to enhance the chi
of a structure and/or client.

Use of intuition and intention

Stage of BTB Feng Shui Development

There are 5 stages of the development of BTB Feng Shui:
Stage 1: The Bon Religion
Before Buddhism was brought to Tibet, the native religion was Bon. Bon has been characterized as
shamanistic and animistic religion with a variety of deities. The teachings contained meditations and
mantras.

Stage 2: Introduction of Tantric Buddhism from India

Four main sects of Buddhism. That Black Hat sect developed with Bon teachings as an eclectic
school, absorbing the best of each new environment and teaching that it encounters.
Stage 3: Spread of Black Sect Teachings to China
In the 18th century, Black Sect teachers traveled to China, again absorbing and incorporating new
areas of knowledge. This sect picked up ideas from Taoism including yin-yang theory, Chinese
folklore and feng shui.
Stage 4: Black Sect Teachings Reach the West
In the 1970s Professor Lin Yun brought these teachings to the West. In addition to the methods he
received from his teachers, he incorporated his own theories, philosophy and practices into a body
of knowledge known at BTB Feng Shui.
Stage 5: After Professor
Professor passed away in August 2010 at the age of 79. Khadro Crystal Chu is his successor of the
BTB Feng Shui Tradition.

Cures
In BTB Feng Shui, cures include a diverse array of recommendations. They include traditional feng
shui cures, along with meditations, prayer, mantras, and transcendental solutions. Review the
Method of Minor Adjustments for an overview of some of these solutions. I also will teach how to
incorporate chakra balancing, feng shui astrology, Geopathic stress analysis (on the land), and other
techniques you may decide to employ in your work.
Method of Minor Adjustments (see handout).
Cinnabar and Realgar
In many BTB transcendental cures, cinnabar and/or realgar are used. These are minerals that are
ground down to a powder and are used to infuse the ritual or ceremony with specific intention. They
are also used in Chinese medicine and Indian Ayurvedic medicine.
Cinnabar is used for driving away negative energies and protection
Realgar is used for to strengthen chi
However, these minerals are toxic: cinnabar contains mercury and realgar, arsenic.
Approved substitutes are as follows:
Paprika for cinnabar
Turmeric for realgar
