Final Reflection

1. Rhetorical Knowledge

The paragraphs that I have chosen above represent similar writing

styles, but are presented in a different way. The first paragraph is showing
rhetorical knowledge of a piece of article that I had chosen for my inquiry
proposal. In this paragraph, I state a fact from the article and then go into
further discussion about what other supporting details the article mentions.
This type of essay requires me to have actual facts to support my argument.
Whereas the second paragraph, which was more of a rhetorical analysis of an
article, I split up the writers work into pieces. I summarize and explain
certain meanings of quotes. These two pieces of writing are completely
different because one of them is an inquiry essay whereas the other is
rhetorical analysis of an article. I show these differences because in the
inquiry essay I address the article and then state facts presented by that
article. Whereas in the second paragraph I am analyzing a piece of literacy.
2. Critical Reading

This piece of writing is a model essay of a previous student. She had a

solid proposal and it was extremely helpful in setting the outline for my
inquiry proposal and thesis. This piece was very well-written and she
explained her personal aspect. She first brings in various allusions to catch
the audiences attention and then goes on to explain how they relate back to
her topic. I used my critical thinking skills to analyze her paper because I
already had a basic guideline of what the thesis should consist of.
3. Knowledge of Conventions

The first screenshot shows an image of MLA format. When writing

informative or research essays it is important to give credit to your
sources and cite your information. There are multiple ways in which a
source can be cited. But in order to cite a source in MLA format the author
must be cited first. Then the article title, publisher, date published, pages,
print. That was just an example for a book but citations for other books
are pretty similar. MLA is one of the most common, apart for APA, used to
cite sources.
The second screenshot shows a picture of comma. A comma is a
pretty commonly used punctuation. A comma represents a pause in the
sentence. Sometimes it is used to separate two independent clause using
a conjunction. It can also be used to separate lists of items, or add
descriptions. In the screenshot above I have used it to separate an
appositive phrase. The appositive phrase is used to describe the person
therefore is separated.
In the last screenshot, I used a colon to separate the list of items from
the original sentence. I discuss how everything in our daily lives deals
with the we have been brought up and then I go on to list certain items
that deal with that topic. Colons can be used to separate such lists
because they do not have to be another independent clause. If that were
the case then a semi-colon would be used.
4. Composing Processes

In my inquiry proposal, I did not initially include my personal

perspective. I kind of made it more informative then talking to my actual
audience. I did not discuss how it personally affected me. But after I
received the comment from one of my peers I decided to go more in detail
about how I was affected by my topic and why I chose to do research on
it. This would help my audience understand where I am coming from and
allow the m to relate. Another comment that I received on my actual
thesis was to add more facts about the disorders that girls were facing so I
decided to add a couple extra statistics. I also reworded that paragraph
because it was all over the place and hard to follow.
5.Critical Reflection

In my first reflection, I understand what is hurting me deep down and I

get a realization of why I am choosing to do research on this topic. I would
have never chosen such a general topic about beauty because that was
not that important to me but lately my new friends are making me doubt
myself and they seem to emphasize beauty every single day. So in order
to understand this perception and to get answers to questions that are in
the back of my mind every day I chose this topic and reflecting back on
my inquiry question helped open my eyes. Then in the second reflection I
wrote I got to reflect on what I learned. I had never used screencast. So, I
got to express how I feel about it and describe the experience I had with
it.
