What is going to happen if Houston continues to ignore parts of gender oppression? Well many things
that are already occurring reflect this, there are already protest occurring over this topic. Many articles
have been released about this topic including: Click2Houston, The Mary Sue being some of the main
inspiration to make this editorial.
My friend (well call him Billy) came out as bisexual during summer but before he was very depressed
and confused with himself. He was luckily surrounded by very supportive. You could tell how his
orientation really affected his mental state, Im glad that hes beaten that issue. Now I would like for you
to be in that position, but without all the support that is the case of many students in Houston that are
part of the LGBTQ community
The Mary Sue recently made an article speaking on how transgender rights are being attacked by
America, Houston was also involved in how they were trying to pass a discrimination bill where it would
be allowed to discriminate on those that are transgender. The attack does not stop there, during
November 2015 there was a vote on proposition 1 which was known as HERO (Houston Equal Rights
Ordinance) the vote ended with 61% saying to not pass it and 39% saying to pass it. (Johnson, 2015) Due
to the votes they decided not to pass it and many people were outraged at this decision.
Click2Houston also made an article about Houston students that were part of the LGBTQ community
were being discriminated because of who they were. This story is why I want to help those in the LGBTQ
and those that are oppressed because of their gender/orientation, What I want to rally for is to use
unused/unneeded restroom and use them for those that are transgender. The reason why I see this
being the best option is because this would account for many peoples argument of some men may
pretend to be transgender just to rape a helpless girl.
