Job Title: Teaching Faculty I, Center for Global Engagement

Responsibilities
The Center for Global Engagement at Florida State University invites applications for a Teaching Faculty
I position. This is a non-tenure track, 12-month appointment to begin in May/June 2017. The primary
responsibility will include teaching undergraduate classes for the Global Citizenship Certificate program:
up to four courses in the fall and spring (4+4), and one summer course OR 2-3 courses in the fall and
spring combined with providing intercultural training and workshops for the Global Partner Certificate.
The undergraduate courses include two required courses for the Global Citizenship Certificate program.
Global Perspectives (IFS2070) is designed to introduce the students to the basic concepts, theories,
functions and behaviors associated with intercultural communication. Global Citizenship (IFS 3125) is a
capstone course where students synthesize and reflect on their intercultural and global experiences
acquired throughout the Certificate, and apply their global learning in a final synthesis project. Both
courses are approved as part of FSU's new Liberal Studies for the 21st Century curriculum
(http://liberalstudiescourses.fsu.edu/care/LS-courses/course-display.php) Intercultural training includes
workshops for the Global Partner Certificate. The Global Partner Certificate is a Center for Global
Engagement (CGE) professional development initiative that began in the Fall of 2010. It is designed to
help participants develop intercultural communication skills and competencies, and increase their
intercultural awareness, knowledge and skills.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Intercultural Communication, Global Studies, Global Affairs, International Affairs, International
Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Cultural Studies or a related field is required at the time of hire.
(ABD candidates with projected completion date prior to appointment start will also be considered). Up
to two years of experience in teaching undergraduate courses in Intercultural Communication, Global
Studies, International Affairs or closely related areas. Experience designing and facilitating intercultural
communication workshops.
Preferred
Commitment to intercultural understanding; Experience using intercultural competency assessment
instruments; Knowledge of a second language.
Other Information
This position reports to the Program Director of the Global Citizenship Certificate.
Anticipated Salary Range
$48,000-$50,000
