Brief Description of Learning Experience:
The assignment will begin by an introduction of the video that I created about Ruby Bridges. Students will then be told that they
are to create a video based on the SS1G1 Standard:
Describe how each historic figure in SS1H1a was influenced by his or her time and place.
a. American colonies (Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson)
b. American frontier (Lewis & Clark and Sacagawea)
c. National Parks (Theodore Roosevelt)
d. Southern U.S. (George Washington Carver and Ruby Bridges)
Students will be given approximately three class periods to work on the lesson. If I feel that they need additional time,
then they will be given more time. Students could have the opportunity to present their videos to their peers and parents
during a class movie showing. I will provide students with feedback throughout the video creation process. Students will
not create their movie files until they have been given approval by myself.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?
This would be a level 2 LoTi. Although the students are required to create a product, they are not given much voice/choice and
the lesson cannot be extended far beyond the classroom. Students are presenting information through their videos rather than
analyzing it.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are
going to be used in the learning experience?
The project could be completed without the technology, however by using a movie-making software, students are able to
incorporate different videos, audio files, text, etc in their movies that would otherwise not be possible. The movies will flow
much smoother and will likely have a bigger impact on their audience.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Students will be able to use the internet so it is important to monitor them to assure that
they are not using it inappropriately. Students should not publish their work online for this lesson as it is intended to be presented
in the classroom for their parents and peers.
