ENG 1102 End of Semester Reflection Portfolio

Argument for Grade: The easiest way for you to synthesize your work over the semester is to
put together an ePortfolio (through Weebly, Yola, Webs, etc) and have the work labeled.
These are some of the questions that you need to be ready to answer:
Project 1: Initial Extended Inquiry
Can you specifically show me how this assignment has enhanced your use of
technology to create and write in multiple genres?
This assignment enhanced my use of technology to create the multiple genres of bumper
stickers, memes and a brochure. For my multimodal project I created both bumper
stickers and a meme I used technology in the form of using a generator to input pictures
and text to create my finish project.
How about your research skills and avoiding plagiarism?
I been writing essays for a very long time I would have to say I have good research skills
when it comes to avoiding plagiarism. I avoid plagiarism by citing the author if I used
any part of their work.
How about your critical thinking skills?
I am very pleased with my critical thinking skills because it allowed me the to think
outside of what expected.
What about reflecting on your writing and choices you made?
The writing choices I made was to be more informal since I was creating a brochure. Also
I created a brochure to be more interesting than your typical essay.
How do the SLOs relate to this project?
The SLOs relate to this project because I had to used all of them if I wanted my inquiry
to be perfect. I used critical reading by using a diverse range of texts and rhetorical
knowledge by the specific layout that I used intentionally in my brochure. Composing
processes by my deep engagement with source material and knowledge of conventions by
knowing the genre conventions of a brochure.
Project 2: Annotated Bibliography
How did this project enhance your research skills
The annotated bibliography enhances my research skills because I gained knowledge of
all the tools we have available at the UNCC library. One of the tools is the library
database which searches your topic and give you peer review articles and books based on
what you searched.
How do the SLOs (especially Critical Reading, Rhetorical Knowledge, and
Knowledge of Conventions).
Critical reading was used in this assignment because I had to read in depth to figure out if
a sources was credible. Rhetorical knowledge was used in this assignment because it
made me experiment with mechanics. I used knowledge of conventions in this
assignment by taking in account linguistic structures.
Project 3: (Multi-modal project)
How did you compose your Memo?

I composed my memo describing to my reader why I made certain choices, why I choose
the genre of memes and bumper stickers, what rhetorical strategies I used, and what my
text compels the reader to act, think or feel.
How do the SLOs relate to this project?
The SLOs relate to this project because I need all of them in order for my multimodal project to
be complete correctly. Rhetorical knowledge by using the design medium or genre and critical
reading by evaluating my ideas in order to inform an audience. Composing process by
collaborating and knowledge of conventions by using multi-modal compositions.
Overall:

The class in general: What do you think you should get (as a grade)? How do you
think the class went? Did you learn anything? How was your house group?
I believe I should get a B as a grade. I honestly feel this class went better than I expected.
I learned many things in this class creating proposals, memes, and bumper stickers. My
house group was alright some people did their assignments on time and cared about the
class others didnt.

Discussions/Journals/ Responses to Readings: respond to the usefulness, timeliness,

responses you got from others, and anything else.
I believe the discussions, journals, and responses to readings were very useful in this
class because they meet up with the SLOs of the course. The response I got from my
classmates were helpful and very insightful also allowed me to share a connection with
them. Overall I think the class was a delight because we learned a lot by doing the
readings which helped me with writing my proposal.

Think about these words: organization, choice, evidence, proof, communication, evaluation,
persuasion, developed, investigate, reviewed, revised, designed, integrated, demonstrated,
rhetorical situation, critical reading . . .
a. Which of the individual claims you make in the projects are
strongest/weakest?
The strongest claim I made was that I shared my happiness with my brother. The
weakest claim I made was what is happiness.
b. Is there a piece that was more important for you and why?
No theres piece that was more important for me.
c. Is there a piece that was more difficult for you and why?
Yes, the more difficult piece for me was the annotated bibliography because it was
hard to find information for the authors of whose work I used.
d. If you think you have learned to make connections between texts or learned
to apply ideas from texts into your life, show me where.

Yes, because thanks to this inquiry project it made me realize that I have a
connection with my brother I didnt realize I had until this class.

e. Reflect on the processes that you went through with each major piece.
Each time I did a major piece I had to brainstorm and get some feedback from my
family members. I mainly did all the revision by myself.
f. Did you discover anything new/interesting/insightful?
Yes, I did discover something insightful which was the idea of creating a
proposal.
Your own participation and effort in the class
a. Much of this class rests on the assumption that you are self-motivated to
participate, read, ask questions, help your classmates, can (and willing) to
navigate Moodle and do what you need to do in order to succeed in the class.
Although I have my own view of who participates and who doesn't, I would
like your input here about yourself.
I was self motivated about 50% of the time. The only thing I lacked was speaking
in class during the start of the semester since I was shy around my classmates
since they were complete strangers. I was very motivated on navigated in Moodle
to get what I needed in order to succeed in a class I would daily check to see if we
had any new assignments to complete.

b. You registered for the class did you do all you could to succeed?
Yes, I did all I could to succeed in this classed I completed all the blogs, journal
responses, class discussion and the quizzes on the book into the wild. I would help
my classmates by giving them ideas. The only thing I lacked was speaking in
class during the start of the semester since I was shy around my classmates since
they were complete strangers.
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR GRADE SHOULD BE??
LOOK AT THE GRADING EXPECTATIONS CHART (IN MOODLE) AND USE
EVIDENCE FROM THE CHART.
My grade for the class should be a B because my thesis may not be as interesting or
insightful.
