Chapter 1.

The Students who are hate Math

1.1 Introduction.
1.1 Background of the Study
First of all we are all wondered why many students are dislike Math? Well Im one of
those or at least I was one of those. I went from loving mathematics to having it and to loving
it again. I know most of the time, many students are suffered in this situation, but they dont
see the value or the importance of math. (Ben Baert 2015) says many of people do not get the
opportunity to discover this go through life thinking that theyve had classes in mathematics
and that theyve hated it. Too many pupils fail to keep up with and fail to understand the
basic, we find it hard. (Keinosuke Johan Miyanaga 2013) .When a child with no confidence
in math begins by assuming they are smart, they work on it until they gain confidence. Math
isn't hard, and any child can do it. The moment of truth is when and where they acquire this
predisposition towards an assumption of intellectual integrity, and their high resistance
towards giving up. They acquire this from the expectations of their parents or teachers, and
the intellectual confidence that rubs off of the people that surround them. Math is no
exception. The other is inspiration. This is most easily obtained by other people, such as a
mentor or a role model.
According to (Sean Lyons 2013) they dont understand why algebra, geometry
and etc. work the way that they do, it takes a certain way if thinking to understand why
mathematics a lack of understanding leads to misguided attempts to memorize,
methodologies and steps to solving problem as memorization is the key to success in so
many other subject in school. Some students feel like math is a foreign language in which
they can't orient themselves since math is cumulative and they forgot something they learned
a while ago and now becomes totally lost. When students fail to progress in a math class they
may feel stupid and avoid math as much as possible in the future.

What is beautiful about mathematics as many people claim? (Ed Caruthers 2014)
says beauty is an acquired taste in every area. To see the beauty in a tree to have to look at a
lot of trees, think about trees; maybe even have someone else point out their patterns and
symmetries. To see the beauty in art from a culture that's completely new to you, you'll need
to learn about that culture and see a wide range of its art. Most people don't spend enough
time on math to be able to see its patterns, or to compare one part to another.
(Arnel Cadalina 2006) Teachers traumatized students by giving them instant quiz
or exam when some students misbehave, thereby giving a signal that Math equates

punishment. These make the pupils or students hate Math and develop dyscalculia. (Fear in
math.)
What are some effective strategies for teaching math? Teachers did not correlate math
to real life situations. Pupils or Students felt that are not love their Math teachers. After years
of handling students, I can conclude that students perform well mainly based on their
perception of the teacher. If the pupils or students were treated as morons and slow learners
which the teacher reinforced almost every day expect them to think that way. Math teachers,
love your students. Most of them are failed in this subject, students naturally love to learn,
but they naturally fear disapproval, thats why we dont like it and we give up. For (Arun
Kumar 2013) it is a big mental barrier against math which how accumulated their growing
years.
Math is a life skill needed by everyone to make even simple choices and I know humanity
needs math, some people may not like this, but I think there are more elegant and more
easy going, flowing, profs in mathematics. I think we need to give more importance, more
emphasizing, because few people are not appreciating the beauty of math. No one (or almost
no one) learns to see the beauty of mathematics without help at the very least, being pointed
towards certain books or puzzled, which is important to us. Thats why I think teachers need
to step up their game. More students will learn math and enjoy it especially if they have great
teachers.
1.2 Statement of the problem.
The general statement of this research is Math constantly threatens to diminish our
social standing, because math always makes us feel stupid. The moment a student is confident
in math, that student is labeled smart forever. This label is important socially as it leads to a
smart reputation and will physically open doors to superior higher education, and a life as an
intellect. But its also important personally. We become whom we tell ourselves we are. The
student keeps getting smarter.
For emphasis, the opposite also holds true: The moment a student loses their
confidence in math, that student is labeled stupid forever. This label is catastrophic socially, as it
leads to a dumb reputation, and will physically close doors to superior higher education, and a
life as an intellect. But it is also catastrophic personally. We become whom we tell ourselves we
are. That child keeps getting dumber and it is hard to see the beauty in math if you don't see the
value in math and it is hard to see the value in math if you don't need to use mathematics to do
something that you want to do. People who say that they hate mathematics don't actually hate
mathematics, because they often don't even know mathematics. They hate being force-fed
symbols and squiggles without a meaningful context.

Some of Math teachers who are present it as memorization and applying what one has
memorized to "problems," instead of presenting mathematics as an intellectual challenge, a quest
for truth.
