Turkey Day

Tradition
Thanksgiving is a
very big deal in my
family. Ever since I was little, it
has been our tradition to get
together with family and eat lots
of food. One thing we do is we
switch sides of the family every
Thanksgiving. So, one year we
will be with my moms family
and the next year we will be
with my dads family and we
will switch back and forth.
Another big tradition that we do
is my mom cooks the turkey
overnight so it will be ready in
the morning. We will all get up
super early, sit in front of the
TV, eat turkey sandwiches, and
watch the parade. Sometimes
we might even have some hot
cocoa.
Travel
Usually the day before,
sometimes two days before,
Thanksgiving, we will all pack
into my moms car and travel to
whichever family we are being
with that years house. It is
most typically at my grandmas
house. This year, we were at my
moms moms house. We left
Wednesday as soon as I got
home from school. She lives in
North Carolina. Whenever we
go to my dads moms house, we
do not have to leave that early
because she just lives in
Conway. Actually, in 2015, for
Thanksgiving my whole family
went on a cruise! That was so
fun! They even had the parade

Who Comes
When we are with my moms
family, my aunt, uncle, three
cousins, grandma, papa, and my
family all get together. Some of
us even bring our dogs! This
year, my cousins were in West
Virginia so they could not come
and it was just my family and
my grandma and papa. They
had some friends that did not
have any family to be with on
Thanksgiving so they came over
to my grandparents house too.
There is a LOT of people in my
dads family. Every year, my
aunt and her family, my other
aunt and her family, and my
family come to my grandma and
grandpas house. It is pretty big!
We all talk, play games, watch
TV, and laugh all together and
we have lots of fun.
Food
Each one of my family members
usually brings their own special
dish. My dad always makes the
ham because he is really good at
it. My family agrees. My mom
makes cranberry sauce because
she has fun making it. She has
always had it since she was
little. Some other things we have
are, of course, turkey, ham, mac
and cheese, stuffing, rolls,
cranberry sauce, mashed
potatoes, beans, and different
types of dishes that I forgot the
names of. For desert we have
pie, ice cream, and LOTS of

whipped cream. My family

really likes whipped cream.
After Dinner
After many servings of
Thanksgiving dinner, everyone
is STUFFED (even though
somehow I still manage to eat
more ice cream), all of the guys
sit down in front of the TV and
watch football. I watch it
sometimes too. Everyone else
goes in the living room and
plays games. We play lots of
cool games like Monopoly, Life,
and Clue. After some games, all
of the kids might go outside and
play tag, hide and go seek, and
even football! I do not have any
girl cousins so it is nice
for my cousins to
actually want to do
stuff with me.
Overall good Time
I look forward to Thanksgiving
every year. It is always so much
fun being with family and eating
so much food every year. It is a
time for families to get together
and give thanks for everything
that they have. It is a time to
show how much you love your
family and your countrys
history. My favorite part about
Thanksgiving is waking up to
the smell of pure deliciousness.
That is a smell I will always
distinctively remember. The
great thing about Thanksgiving,
though, is that it is one step
closer to CHRISTMAS which is
my most favorite time of the
year!!
