TECHNICAL DELIVERY CONDITIONS FOR LOW ALLOY STEEL FORGINGS

Scope: This specification covers technical requirements applicable for Low Alloy Steel Forgings required for
manufacture of ASME U Designator Mark exchanger as per our Job NoPE-XXXX.
PART (A) GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.0

Material Specification:ASME SA-182 Grade F22 Class 3 / SA 336 GR F22 Class 3


(Individual material specification, grade and class shall be as indicated in the order).

2.0

Governing Code: ASME Section II, Part A, 2015 Edition + API 934-A + IBR-1950 and its latest amendments

3.0

Delivery Condition: Normalized and Tempered. (Tempering temperature shall be 730C minimum).

4.0

Manufacturing:
a) All forgings shall be fully killed, made to fine grain practice & vacuum degassed.
b) The forgings shall be forged as close as practicable to the specified shape and size.

c)

C/API

Reconditioning / repair by welding is not permitted. All forgings shall be free from injurious
defects and shall have workmanlike finish.

Dimensional Standards & requirements:


a) ASME B 16.5-2009 metric units for standard flanges up to DN 600 (24 NPS).
b) ASME B 16.47-2011 (above 24 NPS)
c) All other forgings shall be as per given sketch / sizes indicated in the purchase order.
d) Finish of all machined surfaces except gasket faces shall be 6 microns (250 RMS) or finer unless
otherwise specified. Gasket face finish shall be as indicated in the relevant sketch, enquiry or order.

PART (B) CHEMICAL AND OTHER TESTING REQUIREMENTS:

Chemical Requirements:
a) Product Analysison each heat shall be performed.
b) Chemical analysis shall conform to the following requirements in Heat Analysis.

The J factors shall be determined by following formula in heat analysis:


J-Factor = (Si + Mn) x (P + Sn) x 104 100(Elements expressed in wt%)

Mechanical testing:
a) Tensile and impact testing shall be performed in as delivered condition and after carrying out
specified minimum and maximum simulation Heat Treatment (Refer clause 8.0 below).
b) Test specimens for mechanical testing (Tensile and impact) shall be taken transverse to the major
working direction at the test locations as per material specification and at 1/2T location.
c) Test results shall conform to requirements given in this document and applicable material
specification.
d) Maximum Yield strength of material shall be 620N/mm and tensile strength shall be 690N/mm.
Special Tension Specimens for Hubbed Tube Sheet: In addition to the tension test specimen required
as per material specification.
One Tension specimen shall be taken as close to the hub as possible for tube sheet having hub at one
side.
Two tension test specimen on each side of tube sheet having hub on both side shall be taken as
close to hub as possible.
The longitudinal axis of the specimen shall be parallel to the axis of vessel i.e. parallel to the length
of hub (Refer Figure UW-13.3 of ASME Section VIII, Division 1, 2015 Edition).

Charpy V-Notch Impact Test shall be carried out as per SA-370 at a temperature with acceptance value
as per following table. Test specimens shall be taken transverse to the major working direction.

Simulation Heat Treatment: Test specimen taken from forgings heat treated in delivery
conditionshall be subjected to Stress Relieving (SR-1) simulation heat treatment as detailed below.

Ultrasonic Examination (UT):


For tube sheet, forged shelland thickness above 100mm: As per ASTM A578 Level B
For other forgings: As per specification SA-388 and Paragraph 3.3.4 of ASME Section VIII, Division
2, 2015 Edition with 100% scanning of forging surface. Acceptance criteria shall be as per Paragraph
3.3.4.2 of ASME Section VIII, Division 2, 2015 Edition.

Magnetic Particle Examination (MT): Magnetic Particle Examination shall be conducted on all inner and
outer surfaces of flanges and forgings after final machining by Magnetic Particle Examination (MT),
Section V, 2015 Edition. Acceptance criteria shall be as per Paragraph 7.5.6.2 of ASME Section VIII,
Division 2, 2015 Edition.

11.0

Positive Material Identification (PMI) shall be carried out on each finished forging and necessary
certification shall be provided in the test certificates. Acceptance range shall be Cr (1.80~2.80), Mo
(0.70~1.25).

12.0

Insitu Metallography: Manufacturer shall perform insitu metallography for microstructure for the
forgings on each forging basis for the forgings 12 (300mm) and above in size and on each heat basis
for the forgings up to 12 (300mm) in size. Test results shall be furnished in two sets in original for base
data generation. Test shall be performed in as delivered condition on the surface of actual forgings.
Photomicrographs shall be furnished duly identified with respective forgings. Location of examination
shall be marked on forgings.

PART (C) MARKING, CERTIFICATION & PACKING REQUIREMENTS:

Certification:
- Manufacturers Test Certificates as per EN 10204: 2004 Type 3.2 duly endorsed by IA along with
IA Inspection Certificate shall be furnished in the English language and in A4 size in three sets.
- Manufacturers test certificates as per IBR Form IIIC duly endorsed by completent IA shall be
furnished in the English language and in A4 size in three sets for all forgings
- Test certificate shall report all mandatory information required by material specification plus report /
requirement of clause 2.0,3.0 ,4.0 (a) & 6.0 to 11.0 of this specification as minimum.

Inspection Agency (IA): LRA/TUV/BV

a) Review Point: Raw material MTC, HT record, Chemical (heat and product), Test piece selection.
b)Witness Point: Mechanical testing (100%), Ultrasonic testing (10%), Visual & dimension inspection
(10%), Marking (random).
c)Hold Point: Issuance of Inspection Certificate with endorsement of Manufacturers Certificates.

15.0

Identification Marking:
a) Each forging shall be hard stamped identified with hard stamp on Its periphery as per
requirements of relevant specification along with IA stamp.
b) In addition to the above identification marking, each flange and forging shall also be paint
marked with individual items 10 Digit Item Code, Job No and Part No (as indicated in the order).

Surface Protection: By suitable thin and clear easily removable transparent resin type rust
preventive at manufacturers option. Bevel ends of flanges plus 25 mm shall be left uncoated.

17.0

Packing: All standard flanges shall be despatched duly packed in wooden boxes. Gasket face finish of
standard flanges shall be protected with suitable packing material so as to avoid any damage to the
gasket face during transit and handling.

18.0

For forging having weight more than 1000kg and thickness more than 100mm: Vendor shall
submit forging manufacturing plan, heat treatment and quality control procedure.
