Research Action Plan

MYP Assessment Criteria B: INVESTIGATION
Limited attempt to / partially / satisfactorily / effectively follows an action plan to
investigate a research question
Uses methods to collect and record limited / some / appropriate / appropriate &
varied information in line with the research question
Limited attempt to / partially / satisfactorily / effectively addresses the research
question
Limited / reflection / detailed evaluation of the research process and results.

To help you successfully implement a research action plan you need to follow the steps below:

The main research What are the similarities and differences between the effects of the
question
industrial revolution and the French revolution on the position of the
upper and lower classes, the rich and poor.
Justification of
relevance

Sub questions

This is a relevant question as both revolutions had an impact on

society as it was, it changed various aspects for the different classes
and formed the basis of todays society.

Methods to be used
in the investigation

What are the main differences between rich and poor before the
French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution?
Who were the most powerful groups before the revolutions?
Which group of the population had the most benefit of the French
Revolution and the Industrial Revolution?
Which population group was the most powerful after the French
Revolution and the Industrial Revolution
How did the difference between rich and poor change during the
French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution?
What kind of work was available for the poor and the rich?
What kind of rights did the diverse population groups have?

I will gather my information on the internet and through relevant film

material.
To record all relevant information, I will use a work document with a
schedule where I will answer my sub questions and where the
similarities and differences will be stated clearly next to each other.
Out of the sub questions I will be able to write my essay on similarities
and differences and give answer to my main question. I will also gather
general information on the French Revolution.
Per sub question I will access around three websites, this helps to

validate the information given on the various websites.

Identify the
relevant
sources/evidence
that you will use.

Record the works cited. You can include this at the end of your essay.
Please check the Information Literacy Guide to do this correctly. Easybib
formatting is not appropriate.

Questions to follow

An important element of undertaking research is to evaluate the process

and results of the investigation, with guidance. (Criterion B). Look at the
prompts below and answer them to the best of your ability. Try to write
at least a paragraph for each answer.
1. Identify the process that you used to investigate the assignment topic.
2. Respective the process that you used to investigate the topic:
a) How effective was it?
b) What would you do the same next time?
c) What would you do differently?
3. Respective the results of your investigation:
a)To what extent were you happy with them?
b) What would you do the same next time?
c) What would you do differently and why?
4. Did you enjoy working collaboratively or not? Explain your answer.

Evaluation

1. Identify the process that you used to investigate the assignment topic.
I defined a main question and sub-questions. I first tried to find the answers to my subquestions, so I could answer my main question. The sub questions were easy to answer. After
that I looked for the similarities and the differences. The similarities were hard to find.
For my research, I searched on the internet to get information. I looked the most for
information about the French revolution because it was a new subject for me. I put in my
findings in a table and I kept a list of similarities and differences. This gave me overview.

2. Respective the process that you used to investigate the topic:

a) How effective was it?
It was very effective. Because I had a specific and focused question I could look for the right
and specific information.

b) What would you do the same next time?
Next time I will make a focused question again instead of a very wide question (I did this in
my science essay). This gives me focus.

c) What would you do differently?

I would start earlier on preparing and making my essay.

3. Respective the results of your investigation:

a) To what extent were you happy with them?
I am very happy with the result of my investigation. I was able to find what I was looking for.
The similarities were more difficult and that took a bit more time. But in the end I find the
results interesting and clear.

b) What would you do the same next time?
Next time I would make a good structured plan again, the action plan helped to find the
results, it gave me focus.

c) What would you do differently and why?
I would start earlier. I found the similarities to put the essay aside and stop staring at it all the
time, and that gave me some space to evaluate all my research and that is how I found the
similarities. If You have more time, this is a very good way of giving it extra thought.

4. Did you enjoy working collaboratively or not? Explain your answer.
The collaborate assignment was very nice to do. We all put in a lot of work and the result was
nice. It was also fun to do together.
I liked writing the essay. In the beginning I did look up to it, but when I started, I started
enjoing it and it went realy quickly. I am happy with the result and I thought it was very
interesting to investigate. I learned a lot.
