In swimming pools and wellness areas, great demands are made on the slip resistance. The visitors wear
shoes on their way from the entrance zone to the changing rooms. From there, they walk on barefoot into
the shower, and from there with wet feet to the swimming pool. In the areas frequented with shoes and
barefoot, on stairs and moist floors, strict slip-resistance regulations apply. Especially for the design of the
transitions between the slip-resistance categories, AGROB BUCHTAL offers an extensive range of floor
tiles. In this way, concepts ensuring optimal slip resistance and an aesthetic look at the same time can
be realized.

The surface finish can be smooth, fine-rough, rough or profiled.
Barefoot areas
Competent authority: Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung, Fockensteinstrae 1,
81539 Munich, www.unfallkassen.de. Floors in wet barefoot areas, e.g. swimming pools,
hospitals as well as dressing rooms, washrooms and showers in sports and work facilities.
Test standard: DIN 51097.
Code of practice: GUV-I 8527 (GUV 26.17) Floor coverings in wet barefoot areas.
Testing method: Inclined plane, walked on barefoot, wetting agent solution as test medium.
The surfaces are smooth, micro-rough or slightly profiled. The various areas are assigned to
the valuation groups. Information can be obtained from the German National Association of
Accident Insurance Companies and Deutsche Steinzeug.
Coefficient of friction/slip resistance
Workshop rules as well as accident prevention regulations require floors to be smooth,
slip-resistant and easy to clean. Special protective measures against slipping are necessary
where there is a risk as a result of the use of water, oil, slush, grease or waste. This should be
taken into consideration when choosing the surface material. This clear requirement is based
on investigations carried out by the insurance companies, which proved that slipping is the
primary cause of accidents.
