Creation of Israel / The Catastrophe (al-Nakba) - Milly
Initially, the Jews were living in the region of Ottoman empire. During the crusade war, where
there were religious conflict, they moved out. So, the arabs/muslims moved to live in that region
of land. Since they were part of the Ottoman empire which is on Germanys side (because they
wanted the land that they lost during the crusade war back) this causes the British to be
unhappy. The British established the Balfour declaration after WW1 which allows the Jews to go
back and live in that region of land, sharing the land with the arabs. More Jews moved into that
region of land after WW2, the situation of holocaust which I will explain more when we go to the
Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial. The Jews overpopulate and established a nation called Israel

which is where we are today. Palestinians are pushed into a small region of land as shown in
these postcards that I will be handing out to you all. During this period of time, it is called the
catastrophe or al-Nakba. 750,000 Palestinian men and women were pushed out of their homes
by Israeli forces. Zionist (Jewish people that believe that only Jews should be in that region of
land and establish Israel) causes a 33 massacre and destroyed 531 Palestinians town.

Dome of the rock was built from 688 to 691 AD on the Temple Mount. Or Noble Sanctuary. It
can be considered as the oldest and one of the most beautiful Islamic monument from the wish
of the builder Abd al-Malik who wanted to state the greatness of Islam.
Dome of the rock was built to protect the Sacred stone which believed by Islamic people that it
is the place where Muhammad ascended to the heaven during the night journey to the heaven.
Moreover, not only Muslims people, Sacred stone is also believed by Jewish people that it is the
place where Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son, Isaac, to god.
Al-Aqsa Mosque was first invented by Umar and rebuilt again by Abd al-Malik who also built the
Dome of the rock (Current Mosque use the plan of abd al-malik). Al Aqsa mosque is the center
of the Muslim society in Israel and still be used today for the prayers.
Besides, Al aqsa Mosque was also very important in a history of Crusade war. It was used as
the royal palace of the Crusader kings, then as the headquarters of the Knights Templar in
1118.

The Western Wall is the most holy place accessible to the Jewish people since Muslim control
the Temple Mount. The Wall is not part of the temple itself. Its also known as the Wailing Wall, this
was built by Herod the Great as the retaining wall of the Temple Mount complex. The plaza was
created as an area for prayer when Israel captured the Old City in 1967. At times tens of
thousands of people gather here for prayer.
These underground tunnels connect the western wall with temple mount, The experience of
walking along the tunnels is like taking a time machine back to the time of the second temple.

jewish jewelry carries a feel of something ancient and sacred. Many Jewish
women wear Jewish jewelry as a way of expressing their identification with Judaism and
solidarity with Jewish nation and culture.

the 8th century, the routed was changed. At that time, there was a separated of Christianity
church in Latin so this people separated themselves into side which are people who followed

the original route and people who followed the new route. They started the new route by headed
south to Mount Zion then doubled back around the Temple Mount to the Holy Sepulchre. Then
in 16th to 18th century, they choose the Franciscan route which started around Holy Sepulchre
and created eight station along the path and around this time, there was added six station by
the Europeans. So now there are a total 14 stations in Via Dolorosa. This all stration that we are

* Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial - Milly

Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial is a memorial place for the people that died in the Holocaust.
It is an underground building occupying 4,200 square meters with the length of 180 meters. Its
shape is in the form of long linear structure with spike cuts through the mountain.
It is important for the survivors from the concentration camps from WWII because it keeps the
memories and remembrance for those who died during those times. They even have Hall of
Names for the ones who died in the Holocaust.
So during the holocaust, Germany had a leader called Hitler and he wanted to rule the world.
He hated the Jews and he ordered his military to kill the Jews. He lied to the Jews that he would
let them shower. But in the end, they were put into a room filled with gas chamber and was
murdered. About 6 million jews were a victim of this holocaust.
In a nutshell, Palestine was part of the Ottoman Empire which was on Germanys side. This
leads to other countries being unhappy about them, not supporting them. After WWII, British
made the Balfour Acts which states that the Jews should be able to stay in the region of
Palestine. This causes a conflict until today in which the Jews overpopulate Palestinian and
established the nation of Israel.
