Utilize Media, Materials, and Methods
Media:
22 Laptops with internet access- will be used to access Google earth and to research for
small group activity.
1 Smartboard to be used to demonstrate usage of Google earth and allow students to
present on.
Materials:
Paper- to be used for students to take notes on the location assigned to their group and
plan presentation
Pen/Pencil- to use to take notes with
Handout- explains assignment and gives space for students to answer questions as well as
plan their presentation
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley- to be used for research on small group activity
Methods:
Whole Group review- TTW utilize summary video found on shmoop tube
Whole Group Instruction on small group activities TTW review handout on small group
activity and explain procedures to successfully complete. TTW divide class into small
groups of three or four and assign each group a location. TTW inform students that they will
have 45 minutes to prepare their presentation
Whole Group instruction on Google earth TTW utilize Google earth to locate one of the
locations as an example to show students how to use Google earth
Small Group Centers TSW work within small group to locate their location and fill out
handout in order to present to class the groups findings
Small Group Presentations- TSW present their findings by using the answers on the
handout to share their information with the class.
Require Learner Participation
Whole Group Review:
During this time TTW call for attention from the class and ask the students to recall their
readings and past discussions on Frankenstein. TTW ask students to mentally note when

locations are named within the video as it will help them complete their task for today.TTW
then will play the video. TSW be engaged because the video is short and interesting.
Whole Group Instruction on Small Group Activity:
TTW review handout given to each student on the small group activity. TSW pay attention to
understand what they are going to be expected to complete. TTW count off students in
groups of three or four making six groups in total. TTW go through list of locations (Geneva,
Switzerland; Ingolstadt, Germany; Mont Blanc; Orkney Islands, Scotland; North Pole
Chamounix, Switzerland) and ask students on the groups preference. TSW be engaged as
they will want to participate in order to present on the location of their choosing.
Whole Group Instruction of Google Earth:
TTW go to google earth in web browser and ask students to choose one of the locations as
an example to demonstrate how to use Google Earth. TSW be engaged because they are
allowed to choose which location TTW use to demonstrate Google Earth. TTW make sure
that the students are following along step by step on their own laptops.
Small Group Activities:
TSW work in groups of three or four to answer questions and prepare information to present
to the class. The groups will be given 45 minutes to complete their task.

Student Performance:
The students will be evaluated on the completion of the handout and on the presentation of
the group for a class participation grade.
Instructor Performance:
During the time given for the students to complete their group activities TTW evaluate which
students have a grasp on how to use Google Earth and if the students are participating
within the group. If a group is having low communication and seems disengaged TTW ask
questions and help the group get back on track with completing the task. TTW also answer
questions on a as needed basis.
Media Performance:
The media that was used is only useful if it allows users to locate locations. If Google Earth
allows the students and teacher to access its capabilities it is successful.
