Zellie’s Opry House concert
Zellie’s Opry House has waited a long
time to book just the right band with a
“female front and lead singer” and they’ve
finally found the little lady with the big
voice and talent to match! Fresh off their
European tour, Ruth Bloomquist, the first
half of the Ruth & Max Bloomquist duo,
has delighted audiences throughout the
Midwest.
Backed by the musicianship of her hus-
band Max on upright bass, Dan Seabolt on
fiddle, and John “Sky” King on guitar, this
bands packs a powerful presence. In 2003,
Ruth was a winner of the Chris Austin
Songwriting Contest held annually at Mer-
lefest, arguably the nation’s leading festi-
val of acoustic and Americana music.
Ruth and the boys will take the stage
at Zellie’s Opry House in Howard City
on Saturday, June 19, 7 p.m. In addi-
tion, the “pre-show” with the house band
from Zellie’s will entertain at 6:10. Zellie’s

throughout the evening and the main stage
will open after the show for local talent.

Music In The Park
Lakeview’s Music In The Park Concert Series will kick off it’s
16th season of great “lawn chair music” at the Village of Lakev-
iew’s Lakeside Park located on the shores of Tamarack Lake,
Wednesday, June 30, at 7 featuring the popular MIchigan folk
group, The Blue Water Ramblers.
The Blue Water Ramblers’ repertoire comes right out of the
Michigan life experiences and the history of the Great Lakes re-
gion. It includes lake shanties, lumberman ballads, union ral-
lying cries, farmers’ paeans, Michigan humor, ‘60s civil rights
and protest music, love songs, gospel music and children’s dit-
ties. Everyone agrees that these combine into a versatile rep-
ertoire to the delight and entertainment of their audiences. “I
think my hero, Woody Guthrie, would approve,” opined Banjo-
Jim. “We’re singing the people’s songs about the people’s lives
and they can join right in and sing along.”
This year’s Music In The Park series has expanded its sched-
ule from eight to 10 concerts, featuring some of the country’s
finest touring professional musicians as well as providing a
showcase for the area’s local talent. MIP is a free community
event sponsored by the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce and
made possible by the generous contributions of area business-

Army Pvt. Matthew D. Boynton has graduated from ba-
sic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied
the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physi-
cal fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic
combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bay-
onet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marks-
manship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field
tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first
aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. He is the son
of Michael Boynton of Curve St., Newaygo, Mich., and Gina
Husted of W. Connecticut Ave., Edgewater, Fla.
Boynton is a 2007 graduate of Newaygo High School.

OBITUARIES
Timothy Walsh
Timothy Walsh, age 56 of Coral, passed away
unexpectedly on June 11 at his residence. He
was born March 15, 1954 in Chicago, IL the son
of James and Nancy ( McGrath) Walsh. During
his working years he worked for The US Postal
Service for four years. He also served his country
in Germany for the US Army. In 1976 he mar-
ried Frances Burgan who survives. Also surviv-
ing are two children, Deborah Walsh of Coral,
Dominique (Edward ) Gimball of Minnesota,
one sister Kathy Miles of Saginaw, two brothers
Andrew Walsh of Sturgis and Daniel Walsh of
Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his parents and a brother
Patrick.
Mabel Aymor
Mabel Aymor, age 77 of Morley, passed away
June 10 at her residence. She was born Sept.
27, 1932 in Newaygo, MI, the daughter of Frank
and Inez (Graves) Wright. During her working
years she worked for Wolverine in Big Rapids
for twenty three years. She enjoyed sewing and
making quilts. She was a member of Luther Bi-
ble Chapel. In 1955, she married Harvey Aymor,
who survives. Also surviving are five children,
Darle (Sue) Boerma, Harvey (Deb) Aymor both
of Newaygo, Robert Aymor of Big Rapids, Paula
(Raymond) Limberg of Morley, Patricia (Ed-
ward) Kuiper of TN,
13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchil-
dren, two brothers, Clifford (Christina) Wright
of Howard City, Frank (Darlene) Wright of
Newaygo, two sisters, Edith (Dennis) Lloyd of
Freesoil, Pearl Maurer of Newaygo, and many
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by her parents, a infant child and two brothers,
Ernie and Walter. Funeral services took place
at 2:00 PM on Sunday at the Heckman Funeral
home with Rev. Phil Bongard officiating with
burial in the Aetna Cemetery. Memorials to Lu-
ther Bible Food Bank may be left at the funeral
home. The family would like to thank Hospice of
Michigan for all their special care given to Mabel
during the past several weeks

niors on Tuesday July 6th. Brasser will
be speaking about the ongoing improve-
ments scheduled for the Kelsey Campus
facility. His presentation will begin at
2:00 PM.

calm Area Commission on Aging. A dona-

4-Hers hosting
groundbreaking
ceremony
The Montcalm County 4-H Fair Asso-
ciation invites media members, 4-Hers,
leaders and community members to the
ground breaking ceremony for the new
Montcalm County 4-H Fair Grounds.
Festivities will begin at 7p.m. on Mon-
day, June 21, 2010. The ceremonies will
be located near the Peck Road entrance to
the new fairgrounds. (This is next to Jay’s
Muffler Shop, just east of M-91.)
“While most people believe the
ground breaking marks the beginning of
a new project,” Pat Schuster fair board
president said. “To me it is finally very
visible proof of the years of commitment
and planning by fair board and commu-
nity members to bring this new facility to
Montcalm County.”
The ground breaking ceremony sig-
nals the beginning of phase one of the
$4,000,000 building project. This phase
includes site work, drainage, wells, sep-
tic, installation of utilities and roughing
in the camp ground. Phase two which
includes the construction of the horse
arenas, horse and livestock barn(s) will
begin almost simultaneously; and will
proceed as funds allow.
“We are beginning this work with the
proceeds from the purchase of our lease
for the current fair grounds,” Mike Mc-
Gonigal construction committee chair-
person explained. “Raising funds to
complete the project will be an ongoing
process. We have already had several
generous donations from individuals and

legislation on Medicare are in and the news on prescription

Right now, D insurance covers the first $2,830 in drug
costs. Then you pay 100% until you’ve spent $4,550 your-
self. The amount you pay goes up each year! The gap be-
tween $2,830 and $4,550 is called ‘the donut hole.’ Well,
the donut hole is shrinking now…
In 2010 anyone in the donut hole receives a $250 re-
bate. Then starting in 2011 brand name medications are
discounted 50% (50%!) and there’s a 7% discount on ge-
neric meds. And every year from 2012 through 2019 the
discounts increase until 2020 when the donut hole is elimi-
nated. Medicine for everybody. About time.

Dean & I met through mutual friends and in June of 2008 were married in Charleston, South
Carolina.
Dean was born and raised in Coral. In 1965, he graduated from Lakeview Schools. He has a daugh-
ter & son and two grandchildren. He farmed for a number of years and now owns and operates Silver D
traveled to South Africa, New Zealand and Montana. He loves horses and owns two of them.
I was born and raised in Grand Rapids and graduated from Rogers High School in 1965. I have
three children and five grandchildren. In my younger years, I used to motor cross on a 250 Yamaha. I
also enjoyed showing standard bred collies and now take pleasure in oil painting, cross stitch, flower
gardens and reading. For twenty years I worked at Sligh Clocks in Zeeland and then retired from Gerber
Baby Foods Corporation in Fremont after 10 years of employment there.
Dean & I enjoy spending time together and attending the various community events to show our
support of Coral. We also love to travel, and hope to move to South Carolina in the future. As some
may already know; Dean is battling Chronic Leukemia and is presently undergoing chemotherapy treat-
ments. It is our hope that he will go into remission and we ask that everyone keep him in their prayers.
We are very proud and honored that we were chosen as Grand Marshals for the 2010 Coral Days
Festival.

I have lived for ten years with only my mom to take care of me. Faith
My dad was diagnosed with cancer and died when I was three-
and-a-half. My dad was an extraordinary man who fought cancer for five years.

My father grew up on a dairy farm, the oldest of four boys. Every morning he woke up at 4 a.m. to

milk cows. He always said that is what gave him his work ethic and his strive to become better. He
learned as a farmer that to accomplish anything worth having takes hard work. He followed in his fa-
ther’s footsteps who also served as a marine. He was very proud to wear the U.S. Marines uniform. He
knew that by serving his country, he could follow his father’s footsteps and earn money for college.
While my father was in the marine corps, he was stationed at West Loch Naval Magazine Base.
There, he was a guard for weapons coming off the U.S. Naval ships before entering Pearl Harbor.
Due to this service, he contracted leukemia, he was only 22. When my father was diagnosed with
leukemia, his family was told there was no way for him to survive, but he prevailed. He refused to stop
fighting and lived for five more years.
While in remission, my father started college, completed his pre-med, and was accepted to the col-
lege of optometry. He worked several jobs, including a job as an S.L.A. (structural learning assistant)
instructor. As an S.L.A. instructor, he helped many students pass difficult classes from pathophysiol-
ogy to advanced math’s. Due to his hard work, in 2007, a scholarship in my father’s honor started at
Ferris State for outstanding students who are applying for the optometry program. My father relapsed,
his cancer came back, before he was able to start the college of optometry. When my father relapsed,
he didn’t feel sorry for himself, he only thought of his family. He was determined, against a less than
five percent chance of survival, to undergo a non-related bone marrow transplant so that he could
have even the slimmest chance to see me and my sisters grow up.
While my father was undergoing his bone marrow transplant, he never lost his faith in God. No mat-
ter how sick he was, he always made time for me and my sisters. Sometimes all he could do was barely
lift his arm to throw me a ball. He never felt sorry for himself, and still tried to help others. He would
talk to the other patients and their families, giving them hope or helping them to understand some
of the medical jargon. He had a wonderful sense of humor, even during the worst of times. He would
always make jokes and try to make everything seem normal to me and my sisters.
My dad was a wonderful person and I will never forget him. The reason he is my hero is because he
never gave up, no matter how painful or difficult it was for him to keep going. I was more important
to him than anything in the world.
He left behind broken hearts, yet memories that have challenged all of us to be the best that we
could be!!!

Approval of Minutes: Motion by Shirley W. to approve the May 12, 2010, minutes as read,
seconded by Lavonne R. All approved.
Treasurers Report: Treasurer Pat J. passed out an updated report. Arlene B. made a motion to
accept the Treasurers report as presented, seconded by Brenda B. All approved.
Director’s Report: Janice W. reported there was a good turn-out for the first day of the
Summer Reading Program for Kids. This year’s program, “Make A Splash, Read!”, will
continue through the week of July 21.
She reported we need to get the word out about the August millage.
She reported there will no longer be inter-loan of AV material (DVDs, videos, audio books and
CDs) between Lakeland libraries. This is due to budget constraints.
She also reported, this year’s book selection for One Book, One County, Montcalm is “Friday
Night Lights” by H.G. Bissinger. A discussion of this book will take place at the Library on
August 30 at 1:30 p.m. Stop by the Library for more information on other events concerning
the book everyone is reading in 2010!
Publicity Report: Arlene B. reported she will be putting up posters for the Quilt Raffle
that will take place during the Harvest Festival in September. She will also be publishing
information on the food booth the FOL is sponsoring during Music in the Park on July 27.
Brenda B. reported no response to the ad that was placed requesting homes for the Christmas
Home Tour this December. Arlene will run the ad again.
OLD BUSINESS
Free Magazines: Donations of current magazines are always welcome.
Gardenganza: Pat B. reported the sale was a success with $122.50 being taken in this year.
FOL Brochure: Vicky P. passed around a sample of the new brochure for the membership
to review. Several suggestions were made. She will meet with Karen Brady to go over the
changes.
Web Page: Toni W. and Judy P. will work on updating the FOL Web page. ?
NEW BUSINESS
FOL Banner: Motion by Betty R. and seconded by Marjorie M. to purchase a new banner to
be used during FOL events.
Used Book Sale (Town-Wide Yard Sales): FOL will be selling books that are left from the
Spring Used Book Sale in Ensley Park on Friday, June 18 and Friday, June 19. Stop by for
some good summer reading material.
2010 Quilts: Linda G. and Shirley W. are working on small quilts from donated materials
which will be raffled off at the Harvest Festival in September. Quilt blocks are being turned
in to complete a queen-size quilt to be raffled off as well. Janice W. has applied for the raffle
license and tickets will be ordered as soon as the license is approved.
On-Going Used Book Sale: A discussion was held on having a continuous used book sale at
the Library. There are several things that need to be worked out before this can happen.

Landscaping Around Library: Vicky P. reported that Randy Heckman has the new shrubs
and will plant them soon.
Book Discussion Group: The book for July is “Imperfect Birds” by Anne Lamont. The book
discussion will take place on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. in the Library Reading room.
