Section A: Career Plan -Personal Mission Statement

I truly believe that success is more than achievable as long as your passion and commitment
drive you towards your dreams and aspirations. As a senior college student, it is my personal
mission to become something bigger than what is expected. I will strive to use my personal
discipline, diverse leadership skills and cultural awareness to oversee a multitude of projects
in which I hope to personally push through to their full potential. Eventually, my mission is to
not only break the class ceiling but commit myself to managing and operating a nonprofit that
specifically deals with educating and improving our lives in one way or another.

Networking capabilities/ aspirations

Critical Behaviors/Goals: In order to become a better networker, I have to learn

how to communicate in a more professional manner. Part of this could be learning
from a peer or mentor or just by mere practice by allowing myself to be immersed
within the networking world more closely. I need to learn to become more
confident in my abilities and allow future networks to see what I am capable of
while remaining humble and honest.
Developmental Action Steps: Explore networking opportunities within the area
specifically pertained to my area of interest and sign up for the events whether
that be a conference, a small meet up or full on workshop. Develop close relations
with potential networks and follow up with individuals after event by sending an
email or hand written note expressing my gratitude.
Managers Role: Reach out to Carrie Madison whom I took a networking class
with in order to develop a better sense of what would be the most beneficial
networking opportunities. She could also possibly set me up with possible networks
in the future.
Target Date/ Milestones: Obtain as many valuable networks as possible before
graduation in order to have a wide range of individuals to reach out to for possible
career options. Try and attend a minimum of one networking event a month to
develop a stronger sense of networking as a skill while gaining valuable relations
with others.
Results/Outcomes: I will know that I have succeed in gaining a better
understanding of networking when networking no longer seems like an event but
rather a casual gathering. By gaining valuable networks to lean on in the future, I
will know I have succeed when I have learned how to successfully network in terms
of career advancement, career advice and even just an intellectual stimulation.
When networking no longer seems scary and less vulnerable, then I will know I
have obtained the networking skills needed to better my career.

Area to Develop: Development of competitive edge

Critical Behaviors/Goals: In order to develop a strong competitive edge I need to
continuously be committed to my work and aspirations. Allowing myself to become
distracted allows others to advance before me. I need to be focused and creative
while still maintaining a sense of integrity.
Developmental Action Steps: Possibly enroll in training workshops that deal
with developing personal brand. I should also be reading articles, bibliographies
and books that deal with learning about my own competitive edge to gain
knowledge while also maintain originality.
Managers Role: Reach out to Sara Otto or John Carlson [evaluate my resume,
cover letters, past experiences and develop a statement to inspire my competitive
edge]
Target Date/ Milestones: Be aware of my competitive edge before applying for
jobs (before April 25th, 2017)
Results/Outcomes: I will know I have succeeded in developing my competitive
edge when I begin hearing back from employers and earn feedback on what
caught their attention and how it relays back to who I am as a person and potential
employee.

Manager and/or Employee Comments: John Carlson Comments 11/28/16

Three things to look at when interviewing and planning ahead

1. Make sure the job matches your values and morals
2. Make sure to develop a relationship with your peers or boss. You

cannot work for

someone whom you dont trust and respect.

3. Establish the role you will be contributing to the organization and

base your

everyday tasks off of that.

Continue to build networks even if you are comfortable with your current job.
Youll never know where the networks will come in hand down the road

CONSTANTYL PRACTICE GRATTITUDE

Sometimes the most lavish paying jobs make the most miserable character.
Determine whether or not youre willing to give up time for other things to
become CEO. Weigh the risk vs. outcomes. Money doesnt always mean
happiness

Find the happy medium with work and life
