When we look at the different environments around us, or habitats, what are the types of animals and
plants we see?

The Mission Of This Assignment


Our planet has many different types of habitats, each with their own plants (flora), and animals (fauna).
In this activity, we will explore 6 different types of habitats and the flora and fauna that live in them. We
will go on a treasure hunt through these different habitats - tropical rain forests, grasslands (or
savanna), polar ice regions (sometimes called tundra), deserts, temperate forests, and tidepools (a
marine biome) - and find what plants animals live there!

Treasure Hunt Questions


1. What is a biome?
2. What is climate and how does it affect each habitat?
3. What is the difference between climate and weather?
4. Which of these 6 habitats experiences the greatest seasonal changes?
5. What are habitats you have lived or visited and on what part of the planet are they?
6. What parts of the world are each of these habitats found?
7. Find an animal in each of the 6 habitats. What characteristics help the animals survive in
each of their habitats?
8. Find a plant in each of the 6 habitats. What characteristics help the plants survive in each
of their habitats?
9. What are the four of the tidal zones?
10. The polar ice regions can be found near our Earths North and South poles. What makes
these two regions different? (Hint! Look at the different animals found in the Tundra from link 1
and in Antarctica from link 7)
