he story begins in the middle, with Nate and an individual named Sam being pursu

ed in a boat. Hold to accelerate the boat toward the island and don't be afraid
to smash into the smaller boats to destroy them. When the larger boat rams into
you and begins to drop mines you'll want to avoid them as much as possible, but
you'll eventually get hit and Nate will be flung from the boat. Hold to surfac
e and when you spot the incoming boat headed your way hold to submerge and narr
owly miss the propeller.
When you resurface and swim to the boat Sam will take over fixing the engine whi
le you provide cover. Take cover on the same side of the boat that Sam is on and
prepare for a firefight. The first boat has two normal enemies at first, but wh
en you see an armored enemy rush to the left side of the boat you'll want to foc
us on him. This enemy uses a Grenade Launcher and can do heavy damage, but if yo
u defeat him quickly he'll blow up his own boat. Two smaller boats will speed up
alongside you, each with one enemy, and when you defeat the closest boat anothe
r boat with two more enemies will take its place.
Once the smaller boats are gone and Sam has repaired the engine, take the wheel
and head toward the island again. This time you're going to want to avoid the ro
cks as you weave through the area and ram into the smaller boats. After a while
the large boat will reappear and ram into your boat, capsizing it and flinging N
ate into the water.
The Lure of Adventure
The story now jumps back in time, exploring Nate's childhood where he seems to b
e getting into trouble at an early age. After jumping out the window and followi
ng the roof right over a small ledge you'll notice that the roof to the left is
too steep for Nate, who doesn't hasn't had years of honing his impressive terrai
n skills at this point. Climb the air conditioner unit and use the small decorat
ive ledges to climb up and over the wall and then hop back over the ledge when y
ou're on the other side of the roof's slope.
Enter the window on the adjacent roof and open the door straight ahead by pressi
ng . As you head down the hall a priest and the nun will enter the room ahead, s
o stick to the left side of the hall and take cover by pressing to lean against
the wall. When they both turn away from you, hold up on the and press to rush
around the corner and then quickly take cover behind the white desk before the
two turn around. From here, wait for the conversation to end and the nun to open
the door on your left and then head into the room on the right if you want to s
ee Nate's file.
Follow the nun into the next room and take cover behind the row of bins straight
ahead and then follow it right, holding up on the and pressing to head around
the corner. Wait for the nun to stick her head out the window as she smokes and
make a run for the plaid couch to the right and enter cover again and then turn
the corner and wait at the edge of the end table. Wait until she pokes her head
out the window again and then make a run for the window on the right.
Press to drop from the window ledge to the ledges below and shimmy left to
h the side of the roof and climb up. Follow the roof and jump across to the
cent building and then hop up to the ledge and shimmy right, while pressing
jump across the gaps. You can now hop to the drain pipe and climb up to the
to examine the backpack by pressing .

After the cutscene follow Sam across the rooftop and climb the chimney, using th
e and to back jump from the chimney to the opposite roof. Hop over the railing
to slide down the roof and then hop over the ledge to the left for a cutscene.
The grappling hook is a new feature in the Uncharted series and it comes in hand

y throughout the game. After Sam climbs up, press to grab the rope and then hol
d L1 while pressing up on the to climb up. At the top you'll need to shimmy left
around the ledge before you can pull up and then continue to follow Sam across
the rooftops. Make the leap across the huge gap, barely making it to safety, and
climb up the ledges and then shimmy along the outside of the ledge and jump acr
oss the gap. Crawl under the green netting and continue to follow Sam across the
rooftop, swinging on the cross, and then grab the rope from Sam by pressing an
d swing across the gap, pressing to release.
Jump across to the adjacent building and then jump again to the ledge near Sam,
but since Nate can't reach the higher ledge he'll have to go around to the right
before he can climb up to the steeple. Follow Sam across the roof and up the ne
xt tower and then watch as he slides down the roof and jumps at the last second
to reach the opposite rooftop. Follow suit by shimmying to the end of the post a
nd then drop by pressing O, but make sure you don't press too early or you'll m
iss the jump. Circle the roof and grab the grappling hook from Sam and press L1
to make a line to the telephone pole. You can now jump and swing to the fire esc
ape and climb down the ladder for a cutscene.
Infernal Place
Moving forward a few years, Nate now finds himself in a prison fight with a bunc
h of onlookers. Press to strike and since you aren't capable of dodging yet you
'll just have to keep up the fight. If you get pushed into the crowd or knocked
down onto the ground you'll have to break the hold of the enemies by tapping be
fore you can get back to beating Gustavo to a pulp. Eventually the prison guard,
Vargas, will break up the fight and send you off to solitary. After another cut
scene, follow Vargas through the prison until you reach the outdoors.
Take the stairs down and then slide along the cliff, using the to steer, and th
en hop up onto the ledge. Climb up the wall to reach the area with the well and
then make sure to drop into the well to find the Panamanian Cat Pendant and achi
eve your first Trophy: First Treasure. Climb back up and check the work table at
the back of the area to grab the grappling hook and then push the crate up to t
he wall next to it. This will allow you to climb up and press to view the priso
n cell before you swing across the gap by pressing L1.
The staircase ahead is broken, so grapple the beam to the right to jump onto the
beam and then climb to the other side and shimmy up and around to reach the gro
und again. Slide down the cliff and prepare to press L1 when the icon for the gr
appling hook pops up and then swing to the ledges on the right and hop off. You
can now climb up the ledges to the roof of the structure before you jump to the
adjacent tower that overlooks the whole area. Make your way up the tower by jump
ing up the ledges and shimmying around to the right and then jump up a few more
ledges before shimmying left to enter a window.
There is a letter from one of the guards on the table that you can read, though
you won't collect it for your journal, and then check the base of one of the pil
lars to find the Navaja Folding Knife in the rubble. You can now use L1 to attac
h the grappling hook to the wooden boards blocking the window above and then hol
d L1 while walking backward to break the boards and create a new path. Climb up
to the second floor and jump to the window and then continue to make your way up
the tower to enter Burnes' cell.
The wall if covered with zodiac symbols, but without a reference you have no ide
a what to do. Walk toward the door until you spot a carving of a sun/moon and th
en press the to bring up the note that Vargas handed over. You'll need to flip
the letter so that Nate identifies the moon on the back and then fold the letter
in half to create the two zodiac symbols. Look at the walls of the cell to iden
tify the two zodiacs and the roman numerals next to them (X and II) and then add

them together and find to corresponding stone with the symbol.


Answer: The symbol you're looking for (XII) is on the back wall beneath the comp
ass, which is pointing at it.
Examine the cross found inside and then push open the cell door and drop down af
ter nearly falling. Grapple the beam to hang in the center of the tower and then
hold L1 to rappel downward. Jump to the walkway and cross the beams until you a
re at the other side of the room and then drop to slide, but make sure to jump a
t the last second to grab onto the ledges on the opposite wall.
Open the gate to exit the tower and press to spot Vargas on the other side of t
he area. Jump to the supports for the crumbled walkway and then then jump onto t
he slope and make sure you head left around the rock to reach the beam that you
can grapple. From here you just need to climb up the side of the small tower, ju
mp to some ledges across the way, and then drop through the sky light.
The group may have their next clue to Avery's treasure, but Gustavo and his gang
don't really seem to care much for the beating you gave him earlier. This is an
advanced tutorial of the fight at the beginning of the chapter. Remember, use
to attack and to break the hold of any of the inmates and you can now press to
dodge incoming attacks. Note that if you stick close to Sam you'll tag team the
enemies for more effective takedowns, but the objective is just to survive unti
l Gustavo takes you on and then spam when he pins you against the machine.
After another scene you'll be on the run, so follow Sam and Rafe until you hit a
dead end and then help push open the bars on the window to the right. Hop throu
gh the window and rush after Sam, pressing to drop from the yellow scaffolding,
and then turn left to avoid the enemies fire in the section with pipes. Eventua
lly Sam will hit a dead end and you'll need to turn around and follow Rafe up a
wall to another dead end. Turn around and look to the right, above the blue mat
on the ground, to find the fire escape that Sam mentions and prop him up by pres
sing .
Head up the roof to the right and over the railing and when you jump to the meta
l awning it will collapse. Why these guards are choosing to fight with their fis
ts when every other guard is shooting at you is beyond me, but you won't be alon
e since Sam does a leaping punch at one of the guards to come down and help you.
After the fist fight, locate the cart with some crates blocking a nearby vent a
nd help Sam move it and then follow the vents to a new area.
Don't worry about the guard ahead, as Rafe will knock him out from behind, and d
rop down into the area below while you wait for Rafe to drop the ladder. You can
now follow Rafe across the remainder of the rooftops and press to aid Sam. Aft
er a short scene, jump over the railing and follow Rafe to the cliff edge to com
plete the chapter.
