Salt Lake Community College
Salt Lake community college is the largest Utah s college with 2-year college. In 2014
SLCC has more than 60, 000 students in 10 campuses. More than 60,000 students in 10
campuses still need financial aid assistances, so they can get four-year degree or associate degree
transfer to the universities. More student at SLCC are Utah residents and still enroll international
student.
The United State student financial aid is a funding program that is intended to help
student pay education- related expenses included tuition, fees, room and board, book, and
supplies for education at a college, university, or provide school. So many international students
came to united state and they like to join the community college because firstly, they know its a
college that pays little tuitions, and SLCC have welcomed so many refuges around the world,
nevertheless the financial aid still charge most of us who came from countries that have been
involving into wars. Secondly on my own experience when I came here I always though that
school here is free not like our country where we came from. Here we get the Pell grants but by
the end we will ended up paying it back after years and years. It is like getting a credit and then
paying it back. The way the united state government and all the state governments provide merit
and based student aid including grants, work study, and loans, we should not be even getting

loans because the government already provides all this for the student who are legal in the
country.
Department Education. In April 2010 congress voted to eliminate the federal family
Education Loan program which had allowed private lenders to make student loans guaranteed by
federal government. Firstly, the government funding program helps student to pay for their
tuition, fees, books and supplies. This should be the work of the government to supplies of the
need pf the student that need major helps. Mostly the student that came from far they should
decrease their tuition from $ 520.50 per clock hour to may be $ 320.50. Because from all the way
to their countries to here It was not easy, but the college still chare them a lot. In recent years,
SLCC student paid some estimated tuitions, fees of about $ 3,130 annually which is always an
issue hindering students to continue their education.
The Federal Funding programs has helped me personally pay for my tuition and fees
when I started college my first semester in I incurred an estimated amount of $ 1200 for books
only. It was scholarships and financial aid that enabled me to be able to pay for the expenses.
And the time I got here into college I had my church scholarship Calvary Baptist Church
Scholarship that helped me for my tuitions because after only two semesters financial they were
unable to pay for my school any more because my annually income as a refugee. Since they
stopped to pay for my school I began to pay for my won school since then and now.
Financial aid has been helped students then after that they will stop and now students are
suffering for paying for their own school. This unable student to focus on their studies.
Additionally, the financial aid program help student to pay for living expenses such as
housing, transportation and other related expenses. A cost of housing, gasoline, and groceries

recently roses positions huge problems to college students. SLCC students are estimated the
incur about $ 20, 000 on housing, transportation and person expenses which more than annual
income. The same thing they do they should make people to understand all this process how it
works from the new comer at school because we have so many people that come from different
places with different views, but sometimes they system how it works get people be in confusion.
I remembered when I came here for my first year, I was not able to understand that financial aid
systems.
However, upon the numerous benefits on the Financial Aid Program to SLCC students,
the program lacks some loop holes in the areas of eligibility for applicants; the program does not
help students whose parents are alive and earned certain amount of income per year. The rule
which is whether the student lives with his /her parents will not qualify to receive the financial
aid funding does not help some student because some parent does not help pay for their
childrens college education. This does not help student to be motivated to go enroll into college.
The program does help international students, or students who are independent but does not file
tax returns for the past year. Assuming a student who fell sick an in tired year and did not work
thereafter cannot file for tax and will not qualify for the program. Thats why most of the student
who does not get help to the financial aid department, they do apply for loans. This happened to
me when I applied for financial aid and been disqualified because of my annual income, then I
did not have any one to ask for any question then I applied for loan.
Definitely, I asked my brother for help and He told me to do get the loan. Thats why
most student who recently come, they should ask question about how the systems works. Im
assuming the department they should eliminate the load because by the end you will ended up
paying what you did not expect, then you will start blaming themselves because couple student

who recently come to SLCC from different places they get it so hard to knew the systems how it
works. Another lapses of the program are the restrictions that if a student loses his or her social
security identity then they will not be qualifying and not get the funds to their education. Also, a
loan of 6 % - 7 % of interest to student is too high or a recently graduate because the student has
necessity expenses such as transportation, house, food etc. it really difficult to meet repayment of
a loan with 7%.
The financial Aid program has more benefactions students. With the aids students are
able to pay afford college. It program enable to pay for tuition and fees, housing, transportation,
books and person expenses. The program helps the students some peace of mind to concentrate
in their studies and achieve their academic and career goals and objectives. There is no doubt
about the importance of the financial aid program to families, student and Salt Lake Community
College.
