How Do You Attain The Treasures of Fajr Prayer???

By Na’oos Yahya

Our creation in this world is so that we can establish the acts of getting closer to Allah, the
Exalted, and from amongst the greatest of them is the prayer. That is because the prayer at its
appointed time is from amongst the best of deeds in the sight of Allah, honored and majestic is
He. Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported from the hadith of Abdullah Bin Mas’ood, “I asked Allah's
Apostle, ‘O Allah's Apostle! What is the best deed?’ He replied, ‘To offer the prayers at their
early stated fixed times.’ I asked, ‘What is next in goodness?’ He replied, ‘To be good and dutiful
to your parents.’ I further asked, ‘What is next in goodness?’ He replied, ‘To participate in Jihad
in Allah's Cause.’ I did not ask Allah's Apostle anymore and if I had asked him more, he would
have told me more.” (Book #52, Hadith #41)

The Virtue of Fajr Prayer in Congregation

Allah, honored and majestic is He, magnified the morning time in His Book; He indeed swore by
it, glory be to Him, in His Book, and if the Magnificent swore by something then know that this
thing is magnified. (A translation of the meaning of what) the Exalted said: (By the dawn. By the
ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hîjjah).). Al-Bukhari reported from the
hadith of Abi Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him) said, "If the people knew what is the reward of making the call (for the prayer) and (of
being in) the first row (in the prayer), and if they found no other way to get this privilege except
by casting lots, they would certainly cast lots for it. If they knew the reward of the noon prayer,
they would race for it, and if they knew the reward of the morning (i.e. Fajr) and Isha prayers,
they would present themselves for the prayer even if they had to crawl to reach there.” (Book
#48, Hadith #854)

Al-Tabarani reported with a good chain (of narrators) that when death approached Abi Ad-Darda’
he stated, “I heard the Messenger of Allah saying, ‘Worship Allah as if you see Him, even though
you do not see Him, He sees you, and count yourselves from amongst the dead, and woe to you
from the supplication of an oppressed person, because it is answered. And whoever of you is able
to attend the two prayers of ‘Ishaa’ and Al-Subh (i.e. Fajr) even if by crawling then let him do
so.’”

Glad Tidings:

The First Glad Tiding: Indeed Fajr Prayer is one of the best prayers-

- Al-Bayhaqi reported with a sound chain (of narration) that the Prophet (may the peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “The best of prayers in the sight of Allah is the
morning prayer on Friday in congregation”
The Second Glad Tiding: That Allah shows (with honor) those that left their beds and got up for
their prayer to the angels-

- Imam Ahmed reported with a good chain (of narration) that the Prophet (may the peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Our Lord, Exalted and Majestic is He, is pleased
(amazed) by a man that gets up from his bed and his blanket from amongst his family and
loved ones to his prayer, so our Lord says, ‘Oh my angels, look at my slave he got up from
his bed and mattress and from amongst his loved ones and family to his prayer in hope of
what is with me (from reward) and in fear of what is with me (from punishment).”

The Third Glad Tiding: Whoever goes out for the Fajr Prayer in congregation, Allah will give
him light on the Day of Darknesses-

- Read the Messenger of Allah’s (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)
hadith which is narrated by Al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood, and Ibn Majah with a sound chain (of
narration) that Buraydah Al-‘Aslami said, “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Give glad tidings
to those who walk to the mosques in darkness with having complete light on the Day of
Judgment.’” (Book 2 Hadith 561)
- And Al-Tabarani said, with a good chain (of narration) from the hadith of Abi Hurairah,
that the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,
“Indeed Allah will light (the way) for those that make their way to the mosques in the
darkness with shining light on the Day of Judgment.”

The Fourth Glad Tiding: The two rak’ahs of Fajr (the voluntary prayer before Fajr) are better
than the world and what it contains-

Imam Muslim reported from the hadith of ‘A’ishah that the Prophet (may the peace and blessings
of Allah be upon him) said, “The two rak’ahs of Fajr are better than this world and what it
contains.” (Book #004, Hadith #1573)

The Fifth Glad Tiding: Then if you pray Fajr in congregation the reward of standing the night
(in prayer) will be written for you-

The Sixth Glad Tiding: The angels gather during it (Fajr Prayer) and supplicate for those that
pray Fajr in congregation-

Al-Bukhari reported from the hadith of Abi Hurairah that he said, “I heard the Messenger of
Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying, ‘The prayer of the group
(congregation) is preferred over the prayer of one of you alone by twenty-five parts and the
angels of the night and the angels of the day gather during the Fajr prayer.’”

And with Al-Bukhari also from the hadith of Abi Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (may the
peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "There are angels coming to you in succession at
night, and others during the day, and they all gather at the time of 'Asr and Fajr prayers. Then the
angels who have stayed with you overnight ascend (to the heaven) and He (Allah) asks them
though He perfectly knows their affairs. 'In what state have you left my slaves?' They say, 'When
we left them, they were praying and when we came to them they were praying.' " (Book #93,
Hadith #578)

Ibn Khuzaimah added in his authentic collection, “Indeed the angels say, ‘Oh Allah forgive him
on the Day of Resurrection.’”

The Seventh Glad Tiding: Special remembrance after Fajr prayer which contains that which it
contains from (great) reward-

Al-Tirmidhi reported with a good chain (of narration) from the hadith of Abi Dharr that the
Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Whoever says
after Fajr Prayer and he is bending both his legs before he speaks (meaning right after tasleem
before moving or speaking)‫ ُيحيـي‬،‫حْمد‬
(La ilaha illal-lahu wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul-mulku walahul-hamd, yuhyee wayumeet,
wahuwa AAala kulli shayin qadeer) ‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone,
without partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, He gives life and causes death and He
is over all things omnipotent’ ten times, ten good deeds will be written for him and ten bad deeds
would be erased for him and he would be raised ten levels and his entire day would be protected
from every disliked thing and safeguarded from the devil and no sin should reach him during that
day except associating partners with Allah.” Al-Nasa’i added: “in His hand is the good”

- And he also added: “and he will get for each one that he said the (reward of) freeing of a slave.”

The Eighth Glad Tiding: And after completing the prayer you are written from amongst the
righteous and from the delegation of the Most Merciful-

Al-Tabarani reported with a ‘good’ chain (of narration), rated as ‘good’ by Al-Albani, from the
hadith of Abi ‘Umamah that the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)
said, “Whoever made ablution at his home then came to the mosque and prayed two rak’ahs
before the Fajr then sat until he prayed Fajr then left the masjid his prayer on that day is written
from amongst the prayers of the righteous people, and he is written from amongst the delegation
of the Most Merciful.”

The Ninth Glad Tiding: And after completing the prayer you are under the safeguard and
protection of Allah-

Al-Tabarani reported with a good chain (of narration) that the Prophet (may the peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Whoever prayed the morning (prayer) is under the
protection of Allah for his day.”

And Imam Muslim reported from the hadith of Jundub Bin Sufyaan that the Messenger of Allah
said, “He who prayed the morning prayer (in congregation) he is in fact under the protection of
Allah (until night comes)” meaning under the safeguard of Allah, and under the assurance of
Allah, honored and majestic is He, and encompassed by the promise of Allah (to be protected).
The Tenth Glad Tiding: Next, Fajr Prayer gives you a great opportunity to attain huge rewards-

So whomever prayed Fajr in congregation has an opportunity to gain the reward of Hajj and
‘Umrah, and this reward is not for anyone except those that prayed Fajr. At-Tirmidhi reported
with a chain (of narration) which is stated that it is ‘good,’ Al-‘Albani stated that it is ‘good,’ that
‘Anas Bin Malik narrated that the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him),
“Whoever prayed the Ghudaat (the morning prayer) in congregation then sat remembering Allah
until the sun rises then prayed two rak’ahs it will be for him like the reward of Hajj and ‘Umrah
completely, completely, completely.”

Reported by Imam Ahmed, At-Tirrmidhi, Abu Dawood, and Ibn Majah narrated Sakhr al-
Ghamidi that the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "O Allah,
bless my people in their early mornings." When he sent out a detachment or an army, he sent
them at the beginning of the day. Sakhr was a merchant, and he would send off his merchandise
at the beginning of the day; and he became rich and had much wealth. (Book #14, Hadith #2600)

The Eleventh Glad Tiding: Whoever prays the Morning Prayer (Fajr) in congregation has a
promise from Allah to enter Paradise-

Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported from the hadith of Abi Musa Al-‘Ash’ari that he said, “The
Messenger of Allah said, ‘He who observed two prayers at two cool (hours) would enter
Paradise.’”

And Imam Muslim reported that Umara bin Ruwaiba reported on the authority of his father that
the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “He who prayed before the
rising of the sun and its setting would not enter the fire (of Hell), and there was a man from Basra
(sitting) beside him who said, ‘Did you hear it from the Apostle of Allah (may the peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him)?’ He said, ‘Yes, I bear witness to it.’ The man from Basra said, ‘I
bear witness that I did hear from the Apostle of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him) saying it from the place that you heard from him.’” (Book #004, Hadith #1325)

Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported that Jarir bin Abdullah Al-Bajli, may Allah be please with him,
said, “We were sitting with the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then
he looked at the full moon and he said, ‘You shall see your Lord as you are seeing this moon, and
you will not be harmed by seeing Him. So if you can, do not let yourselves be overpowered in
regards to prayer observed before the rising of the sun and its setting (i.e. the 'Asr prayer and the
morning prayer).’ Jarir then recited, (Celebrate the praise of thy Lord before the rising of the sun
and before Its setting).” (Book #004, Hadith #1322)

These are the excellent glad-tidings that Allah, exalted and glorified is He, gives to those
that frequent the mosques in pursuit of the pleasure of Allah, abandoning the sweetness of sleep
and the comfort of the bed. Intending with every enlightened step to attain the great reward that
Allah, the Most Generous, has prepared for everyone who follows behind Muhammad, may the
peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Dear brother and dear sister, let us be serious in our
pursuit of these magnificent virtues, and may Allah give us and you success in our pursuit of that
which contains goodness for both worlds.
