I know that in class, different bowing styles were discussed. Loure and detache, each meaning the
relationship of the bowing on or off the string. The reading mentions martele stroke and Im unsure if I
missed this in a reading or not.
The piece of the reading I was surprised to find was the number of exercises to help practice
techniques to not only get to the intermediate level, but also how to continue from there. These exercises
are typically shown in italics in the reading and are incredibly abundant and helpful. Even more so
because the chapter is broken into topics which make it easier.
All of the exercises are applicable to teaching strings. The approaches taken to teaching the
theory, and ear training aspects are applicable to band programs as well. These skills are often overlooked
in the field and students need more ear training.
