MULTICULTURAL LESSON PLAN

Lesson Title: School Days Around the World

Student: Luz Escobar

For this lesson, I will read to my students a book called School Days Around the World. We will
discuss the different cultures addressed in the book and I will answer questions the students have.
For the activity, the students will be placed in groups of four and will be given a poster board with
an assigned culture. On the poster board, the students will draw and color items that relate to the
culture. After the students are done with the assignment, they will each share their group work to
the class.

Teacher Procedures:
Introduction, 5 mins: Present the book to the students using this
hook: Has anyone here ever been on a trip? Raise your hands.
Who has been somewhere far? (Let the children share.) Was it
different where you went? Ok well today, we are going around the
world to see what it is like to be in school in other countries.
Begin reading book, but pause and ask questions about the
pictures. i.e. Some children eat lo mien for lunch, this means chow
mien, mmm who here likes chow mien? Also ask the students to
compare and contrast the pictures in the book with their everyday
lives, i.e. Ana walks to school, who also walks to school? When

the children in the book are seen using instruments, use the
tambourine and let each child use it once. (Reading the book
should take 45mins due to the discussions with the students. If
time is almost up, please end and begin with activity.)
B.

Student Activities: Students will be placed in four groups of four

and each group will be given a poster. Each poster will have a title:
China, Islands in the South Pacific, Kenya, and Denmark.
Ok kids, for todays activity we are going to draw pictures
that fit into our assigned country, but first, lets brainstorm
together.
Name something you saw from the school in China?
Tell me something from the school in Kenya.
Denmark?
Islands in the South Pacific.
Ok, you will have 30 mins, remember to brainstorm as a
group and remember to share your crayons with one
another.

4. Closure: Okay, now that we are finished, we are going to share our work with the entire
class to remind us what it is like to be in school in a different country. (25
mins.)
It is important to recognized children that everyone is different and comes from a
different background. It is very important to always respect others. Even though there
are differences, we also share similarities with other children around the world. We go to
school, we learn, and we love to have fun just like the children in the book. Remember
children, respect each other always. (5mins.)
