Annotated bibliography: Artificial Intelligence

There are many topics I couldve chosen other than Artificial Intelligence that would be
more controversy today. A.I. are the future that no one likes to talk about due to the different
possibilities that could happen. A.I. has been making a rise up in the recent years with how much
technology is advancing and the new discoveries we can play with. I chose this subject because
Ive always had an interest to find out how and why A. I can become so smart by simply putting
information in them. This is isnt a huge popular topic like medical marijuana and abortion, but
its only a matter of time before this subject is in the spotlight. I think machines should only to
limited to how much information they can know. I say this because if they are given too much
freedom and knowledge, there's always the possible chance they can overcome our own people.
Patel, Vimla L., Edward H. Shortliffe, Mario Stefanelli, Peter Szolovits, Michael R.
Berthold, Riccardo Bellazzi, and Ameen Abu-Hanna. U.S. National Library of Medicine, May
2009. Web. 11 Dec. 2016.
Summary: The article includes many views on how Artificial intelligence can be used in the medical
field. This was a paper for the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Europe conference. The discussions
including, creation of new practices that can be used to help the patients, more of a representation
system to show collected data from other professionals, and helping be more precise when it comes
to operations.

Evaluation: The new discoveries found can be put into a system so that system could be in a
position to reach doctors and scientist all over the world. Having specific information available at
anytime can make workflow more fluent without any errors. A.I. models can help the doctors to
identify the problems simply by looking where is affected. Things like X-rays and scanners can help
the community to find diagnosis faster.
Reflection: I think A.I. can be beneficial to the medical field because robots would be in a position to
access parts that humans can't. Testing certain things on robots can also help research going
towards that certain subject. I can see why people wouldnt like a robot to operate or look at them
due to their personal opinions, but these robots can do significant good in the medical field.
Koch, Christof. "Will Artificial Intelligence Surpass Our Own?" Scientific American. N.p., 05
Aug. 2015. Web. 11 Dec. 2016.
Summary: The author in this article is looking A.I. in a way that it will surpass our own people.
Things like algorithms and patterns can be picked up by robots and programmed to put those
patterns to work. If a robot somehow can get more than enough algorithms and patterns they have
the possibility of maybe overcoming humans. This is considered a long shot, but if we give robots
the proper intelligence and freedom this can happen.
Evaluation: From on example in the text, one thing mentioned was the Atari game console and how
it was created to display a sort of game playable by controllers. The chip was specifically designed
to make the console playable. Now the microchips we see today are smaller and can do much more
than back in the day. A chip could be designed to make a certain robot go over the top and start
doing things like normal human beings.
Reflection: I can see why the author would say that robots have the ability to surpass us with how
fast technology is advancing. I think if we limited the amount of information that robots can have and
the ability to control them, this wouldnt turn into a problem. As long as we can control the situation

between robots and humans, we have the power to make our own decisions. Robots will surpass us
if we give them the necessary tools for them to make that happen.
Greenwald, Ted. "Does Artificial Intelligence Pose a Threat?" The Wall Street Journal. Dow
Jones & Company, 10 May 2015. Web. 11 Dec. 2016.
Summary: The author tells some statements said about Artificial Intelligence and the future of
robots. His is strongly with the unknown possibility of the future and how A.I. will become a part of
that future. Robots now have limited access to information, but how will that change in the future

when robots become more of a normal thing.

Evaluation: Some A.I. robots that the author mentioned like Amazons Alexa and Apples Siri are
the starting A.I. that each company has gained for themselves. These A.I. are well developed which
can be scary through the way they can work so well with a simply human voice. If you wanted to
have a conversation with one of these robots, they can reply back with an already fixed algorithm
exclusive to what they have heard or what is going on around them.
Reflection: I own an Apple product with Siri and I can agree its sometimes scary how they can
access information in such little time. I would ask about the weather and the instantly it would have
results just by saying out loud weather. Im already amazed by what they can do, it seems crazy
that they can only keep on getting better and faster.
Ford, Paul. "Our Fear of Artificial Intelligence." MIT Technology Review. N.p., 01 Feb. 2016.
Web. 11 Dec. 2016.
Summary: This articles talks about the future and use of Artificial intelligence. The author starts to
give some examples of what and how A.I. can help the human race develop. Will it enhance the way
humans view certain technology and help people rather than harm them. There can be benefits of
having robots for experiments and things of that category, but with the possibility of having the
selected A.I. not always obey our command.

Evaluation: The author seems to give reasons on why robots would be good for us. Like helping out
those that are always stressed and helping them relieve stress by doing their work for them. Having
someone with an illness and putting robots into the perspective that they can save a persons life.
Making a robot do something isnt always going to go as planned because of how it can be
programmed. An assembly line can mess up if any little thing fails to produce towards the next
stage. The same can be applied to robots if they get out of control and start to learn all by
themselves without the supervision of a human.
Reflection: I do agree robots have the possibility to help the human race with almost anything that
can be replaced by robot, but I understand the concern with what if it goes out of control? and the
harmful things that could happen if we dont control the situation. Technology must stay within our
rules so they don't get out of control.
Ito, Joi. "The President in Conversation With MITs Joi Ito and WIRED's Scott Dadich." Wired.
Conde Nast, n.d. Web. 11 Dec. 2016.
Summary: Joi Ito a teacher from MIT technology university is given time to interview president
Obama about what A.I. has become and how it will affect our future for the better. Joi Ito talks asks
Obama various questions based off of Artificial intelligence and if introducing this type of technology
would make the world a better place for everyone or would it bring us more harm than we know.
Evaluation: The questions that Joi Ito is asking are the ones that people around the globe are
asking about Artificial Intelligence. President Obama goes into great detail about how the modern
age is influencing the creation of A.I. robots and how the modern age will adapt to the new
technology developing.
Reflection: This interview was interesting to me because Joi Ito asked the president of the united
states about the future of mankind and what it holds. Im pretty sure president Obama has seen
some crazy new A.I. in his 8 year term so I know that President Obama would know about these

sorts of things. I believe the modern age will adapt to A.I. robots because they are nearly in every
phone that's come out recently.
Ghose, Tia. "Will Artificial Intelligence Be the Next Einstein?" LiveScience. Purch, 8 Dec.
2016. Web. 11 Dec. 2016.
Summary: This article isnt to say the Artificial Intelligence is bad, but what its saying that A.I. robots
could become the helpers so that humans can find more discoveries. A helping A.I. android could
mean that someone has the possibility to become the next Einstein if they have the resources to do
that. Humans can know more, but only if they chose to let these A.I. have that information.
Evaluation: The experiments that A.I. robots may help with can make discoveries or improves to
what we already know. Surgeries can go more smoothly if the robots are built for that certain
situation. Sharing information with an A.I. android in your possession can help you with experiments
through the information stored onto the android. These A.I. can help have a second mindset towards
the specific subject you are working on. A.I. can be the helpers you need so you can succeed.
Reflection: I think if I had my own super intelligence computer android with me, I wouldnt have to do
most of the research Im doing now, which is great because the owner isnt working hard to get
research. A.I. like Apples Siri is a handy tool when it comes finding out something. If you want to
know the location of a store? All you do is say the words and the A.I. starts to put all the information
there is about that certain store. Its amazing to think A.I. have more access to information then the
own public do.
