Introduction
What can you do with a computer science degree? There are multiple career
paths you could take with a computer science degree. A bachelor's degree is either
required or strongly encouraged for many of the career options listed below. The world
today runs on technology. It is the bread and water of this society. Our world needs
more people who are experienced in manipulating this space. Because these jobs are in
high demand, they will probably hire you because you have an interest in this field.
Even if youre more experienced in slightly different areas, they would probably be
willing to give you in-the-job training as well.

System and Applications Software Developers

Software developers design or enhance or evaluate computer software. The
software developer is the origin of the idea, and may direct the process. They also work
closely with computer programmers, or write the code themselves. As a software
developer, you may take an idea for a particular task a program could perform, plan how
to use it, and turn it into a product. You may work on the underlying systems that allow
for other programs to be accessed and run. Perhaps you will find solutions for flaws or

inefficiencies in existing software and recommend upgrades. On the other hand you
could examine software and determine if it is reasonable/realistic/practical to utilize and
possibly distribute as a product and if it meets the needed requirements.
From 2014 to 2024 the projected growth of job opportunities was projected to be
17 percent, or possibly higher. There are currently about 1,114,000 available jobs. The
median annual salary in May of 2015 was $100,690, which translates to $48.41 per
hour.

Applications software developers specifically design computer applications and

programs for consumers. This career choice is exponentially becoming of more
demand. At the beginning of 2015, there were about 165,060 available jobs, with a
projected growth of 22 percent or more. The median annual salary was $95,510.
Software applications with functions such as word processing, database, spreadsheet,
presentation, multimedia, enterprise, information worker, simulation, educational,
content access, and software that enables the development or engineering of products,
are all necessities in today's world. There is a high likelihood you would get the job.

Systems software developers are not so desperately sought after. They create
the systems that maintain the functionality of the computers. They are focused on the
operating systems rather than the programs the general public is most familiar with. At
the commencement of 2015, there were about 17,350 available jobs, with a projected
growth of 15 to 21 percent. The median annual salary was $102,880. So if you want to
know how and why our phones and cars work, and improve them, this might be the right
job for you.

Computer Systems Analyst

Computer systems analysts study an organizations current computer systems
and procedures and design information systems solutions to help the organization
operate more efficiently and effectively. They bring business and information technology
(IT) together by understanding the needs and limitations of both.Analyze - methodically
examine in detail their job includes research technologies to determine if applying
them will increase an organization's efficiency and effectiveness, considering factors of
time and cost as well as continual technology breakthroughs (meaning if they wait, there
might be something better soon); . Think of ways to improve the organizations overall
functionality through the use of certain technology and computer systems. In 2015, the
median salary was $85,800 per year or $41.25 per hour, 567,800 jobs in 2014 with 21%
projected growth

Programmer analysts
They design and update their systems software and create applications tailored
to their organizations needs. although unlike other analysts they focus more on coding
and fixing bugs. As a programmer analyst you have to be knowledgeable about the
latest technology trends and be able to work in team settings.

Network Systems Administrator

Network systems administrators and in charge of installing and supporting the
network system of an organization. They analyze website functions to ensure that it
performs well without interruption. Another of their duties is to perform data backups and

disaster recovery operations. They manage and maintain the systems that allow users
to access data over the Internet and within a companys intranet

Web Developer
This is one of the more common career options, and has a slightly lower median
salary. There were about 19,229 available jobs in 2015, with a growth rate of 15-21
percent in the next ten years. Web developers write, design, or edit web page content
using programs such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with many others. They
also identify problems via testing and user feedback, and correct them. Web developers
also backup website files for immediate recovery in case of any malfunctions. The
median salary of a web developer in 2014 was $63,490.

Software Quality Assurance Tester

In this area of the technological industry, there were about 16,179 available jobs
in 2015. With a projected growth rate of three to seven percent, the number of available
jobs twenty years down the road will likely be much lower than many of the other career
choices. Their median salary is $83,410. They work to develop test plans to identify
software errors, create and maintain a database to track software defects, and review
software documentation to confirm accuracy and minimize risks.

Advantages of Careers Stemming from a Computer Science Degree

Obtaining a computer science degree provides you with job security due to job
opportunities are multiplying in number.
Salaries are twice the national average

A bachelors degree in computer science qualifies you for 9.6 times more jobs
than having no degree at all

In conclusion...
From creation to testing, from developing to producing, there is a vast variety of
choices in this field. All you have to do is start.
