ENG 2

Metacognitive Cover Letter
Throughout the semester in English 2, I have been doing assignments that accomplishes
each Student Learning Outcomes in a variety of ways. I have full understanding of having
accomplished reading skills from the Student Learning Outcomes by annotating The Invisible
Gorilla and chapter readings from Logic & Contemporary Rhetoric book. By annotating the
materials I read, I have critically examined them which helps with my analyzing skills. I have
accomplished the Student Learning Outcome Writing Skills: Critical and Analytic by
participating in peer workshops where I evaluate my partners draft and peer review it. I have
also written a rhetorical analysis on Freires Pedagogy of the Oppressed, where I used critical
analysis to convey his work. The accomplishment of the Student Learning Outcome, Writing
Skills: Control and Presentation, comes from participating in a group presentation on illusion of
memory and illusion of confidence, which connects visual analysis with written analysis. Writing
a shitty first draft and creating a revision plan after reading my peers annotations helped me
progress in my writing skills. The free writes also progressed my writing skills by letting me
review the assignments that I have learned in the previous unit. Ive accomplished Information
Competency from the SLO by understanding how to do in text citations with MLA format. The
research paper essay helped me understand how to gather information through a reliable source
such as those found in the Academic Databases in the COS website. Understanding and
accomplishing the Student Learning Outcomes have made me become a better reader and writer
with improved critical and analytic skills.
I have participated in group discussions during class which helped me gather information
from my fellow classmates. I havent spoken much during a class discussion because there are
other students who can word the answers better than I do most of the time. I think my
participation in our class discussions wont really affect my grade because even though I didnt
speak, I still understand and learned from that discussion. In the future, I will try to participate
more in other classes to help alleviate my introverted tendencies.
Overall, I think my final portfolio shows that I have learned a lot during this semester in
English 2. Before I came to this class I wasnt used to annotating. Now I know how to critically
analyze from a variety of scholarly works due to the assignments completed throughout this
semester. In the end, my final portfolio reflects my understanding of analysis and reliable
information gathering skills as a result of attending this English 2 class. It has brought about
many benefits in improving my skills as a student, many of which I hope to continue
incorporating as I progress through many of my future classes.
