To make s ome ric- rac cactus - type plants , fold a se ction of your green felt in half and cut
out s quiggly, curvy s hapes that are about 14" long (folding the felt before you cut will give
you two pattern pieces exactly the s ame). C ut about 8- 10 of thes e per plant. Place a wire
between the two pattern pieces and us e fabric glue to glue around the edges , trapping the
wire between the layers (the metal you s ee in the photo above is jus t pins holding the
matching pairs in place before adding the wire). Having the wire allows you to move and
bend the cactus arms as you pleas e once it's planted in your box.

Stack 8-10 of your arms on top of each other (lining up all the bas es together), and glue
the bottom inch of each plant arm to the one on either s ide.Use another piece of felt to
wrap and s ecure the bottom of your bundle together and glue the felt in place.

For the more ball- s haped cactus , cut s everal different s ized circles of felt fabric. Keep in
mind that your finis hed cactus will be a little s maller than half your circle diameter, s o cut
them accordingly. Us e embroidery thread to hand s ew around the perimeter of the circle,
s tuff the middle with pillow s tuffing, and then pull the thread tight and knot to create your
ball. Us e more thread to thread up through the middle of the cactus , down the s ide, and
back up through the middle again to create the s ections of the cactus. Add s ome thread
knots for needles or make a flower to decorate the top!

For the las t s tyle of s ucculent, it' s all about layering petals . This will give you more ofan
agave or echeveria look depending on what color green you us e and if your leaf is
elongated like an agave or s hort with the rounded edge of an echeveria. Fold your fabric
(s o you get double the pie ce s per cut) and cut three s izes of leaves with the s malle st
around 2" and larges t around 5-6". S tarting with the s malles t, place a s mall amount of glue
at the bas e and pinch together until dry. Keep addingle aves to your firs t original leaf,
s taggering the leaf placement as you go, until you work your way up in s ize and your plant
takes shape!

When you are finis he d, glue s ome fabric s trips ove r the bas e of your plant to make a
s moother area for the velcro. Add s ome velcro s trips to the bottom of your plant.

Trace the cardboard onto s ome brown felt, cut the felt, and attach to the cardboard with a
hot glue gun. Mark with a marker where you want to "plant" your ric- rac cactus , and us e an
X-Acto knife to cut out a hole jus t big enough for the cactus end to fit into s nugly.

To keep the brown felt board from s inking further into the window box, cut a long strip of
cardboard that takes up mos t of the depth of the window box and zigzag it back and forth
in the box. Once you place the felt board on top, it will s it right on top of the cardboard
underneath.

Attach the velcro strips to all your plants and their oppos ing s ides to the brown cardboard.
Now your window box is ready to hang!

To make the mother of pearl s ucculent se ctions , I us ed paper covered floral wire, super
glue and gre en felt balls in two s izes . I found mine on Etsy at this sho p
.

To make each s trand, I jus t put s uper glue on one ball and s quee zed them together for
about 60 s econds each until they were dry. (Go ahead and ins ert as many ball jokes as you
want here... I can't s top you.)
Last, I twis ted 3- 4 wires together and added them to the window boxes .
