Procedures
1. Instructor will greet students and ask them, nicely, to sit up in their chairs with proper
posture.
a. Prompt: Good afternoon! How is everyone today? Great! Can everyone with up
in their chair with proper playing posture for me? Thank you!
2. Instructor will introduce the piece
a. Today we will be playing Scarborough Fair
3. Instructor will have students clap their parts, before playing
a. Before we play, lets put down our instruments and clap our parts
4. Instructor will play opening chord on the piano in order for the students to match the
pitch
a. Use concert score to play the correct matching pitch
5. Students will play through the first phrase
6. Instructor will ask the students who has the melody?
a. Who has the melody?
7. Instructor will have the trombones and euphonium play (modeling the melody)
a. Listen for the trombones and euphonium, they have the melody
8. Instructor will now have the trumpets play
9. Instructor will ask students what was different
a. Question: What is different about the trumpet parts? Does anyone know what that
is called?
10. Instructor will explain the descant
a. Question: Does anyone know what is a descant?
i. an independent treble melody usually sung or played above a basic
melody.
ii. A high melody that is sung or played along with the main melody
11. Students will keep a steady beat and learn the song in short phrases
