1. Introduction
a. Have powerpoint ready
b. Ask students if they know what a spiritual is
c. Explain what a spiritual is
d. Review intervals with students
2. Teaching the Song
a. Sing the first line and ask students to repeat after you
b. Sing second line and ask students to repeat after you
c. Sing third line then ask students to repeat after you
d. Sing fourth line and have students repeat after you
e. Sing fifth line and have students repeat after you
f. Sing longer phrases and have students repeat after you
3. Lets Play
a. Have students sing the song
b. Play the xylophone part while students sing
c. Assign xylophone part to a student
d. Play the tambourine part while students sing
e. Assign tambourine part to a student

h. Have students teach each other their parts and then switch instruments

b. Ask students if they are familiar with the word timbre
c. Explain what timbre is
d. Ask students if they know what freedom is
e. Explain freedom
2. Teaching Song
a. Sing the first line and have students repeat after you

d. Sing fourth line and have students repeat after you
e. Sing longer phrases and have students repeat after you
3. Lets move
a. Have students walk around in a circle
b. Students will stop and do a pose to act out the action each time they get to
