Sing America with the correct melody

Use movement and body percussion to demonstrate expression in music

Whats a Patriotic Song

Start with asking students if they are familiar with the word patriotic

Give a few examples for the class

Explain what a patriotic song is (it tells our love and pride for our country and being a
part of it)

Sing the first line of the song to students and gesture for them to repeat after you

Sing the first line adding the movement (hands on heart- my country)

Sing the second line once then have students repeat after you

Repeat same line and add movement (salute with feet together- land of liberty), then
gesture for students to repeat after you

Sing the third line then ask students to repeat after you

Sing same line again with movement (lift hand from mouth to the sky- of thee I sing)
and then gesture for students to repeat after you

Sing the fourth line and then ask students to repeat

Sing same line with movement (prayer hands- fathers died) gesture for students to
repeat after you

Sing the fifth line and then ask students to repeat

Sing same line with movement (stomp and stand firm with hand holding pretend staffpilgrims pride) gesture for students to repeat after you

Sing the sixth line then ask students to repeat after you

Sing same line again with movement (hands over head like a triangle and find a friendevery mountain side) and then gesture for students to repeat after you

Sing the seventh line and then ask students to repeat

Sing same line with movement (one hand up ringing and imaginary bell let freedom
ring) gesture for students to repeat after you

Perform the whole song with movement/ choreography


Conclusion

Perform America with backing cd and movements
