1. Purpose
ThepurposeofthisMethodStatementistooutlinetheworktobeundertakenbyElecQatar
fortheinstallationofabovegrounddrainagepipesandfittingsforCurveRestaurant.
This activity should be performed strictly in compliance with the Safety Regulations in
conjunctionwithISPSafetypoliciesandprojectsapplicablestandards.
2. ScopeofWorks
The scope of works covered by this Method Statement will involve material delivery,
coordinationwithconsultant,siteinstallationandEngineersinspection.
This Method Statement confirms that the installation of above ground drainage pipes and
fittingsbyElecQatarwillbeexecutedinlinewiththeinformationprovidedbytheapproved
drawings,specifications,approvedmaterialssubmittalsandscheduleofworks.

4. HealthandSafetyrisksandControls
4.1. RiskandControlAssessment
PleaserefertotheattachedcomprehensiveRiskAssessment.
All operatives should be subject to ISP Safety induction before entering the project site. A
safetyinductionlistshallbeatsiteatalltimesavailableinworkingsite.
4.2. PersonalProtectiveEquipment
PPE will be required as per ISP requirements, and shall include, but not be limited to the
followingitems:

SiteInductionandEnteringtheProjectSite
Allemployees/operativesarerequiredtoundergoaSafetyInductionwiththeISPSafety.A
designated gate(s) shall be used when entering the area of operation; operatives should
ensurethatworkersareinductedbeforeworkingonthesite.
6. WorkPlaceLighting
SiteworksSiteworksshallbemainlyunderdaylight.Backgroundlightingshallbeprovidedby
thecontractoringeneralaccessandegressareasaswellasinallworkareas.
Specific task lighting ensuring the provision of standards of lighting required for safe
undertakingofworksisalsoprovidedbycontractor.

All personnel carrying out their specific job will be responsible for the tools and
equipmentthattheyuse;

8. WorkMethodology
This installation methodology is applicable to all above ground drainage pipes and fittings
works.Priortocommencementofwork,coordinationwillbedonewithotherservices.
8.1. InstallationofPipes
a. Marktherouteofabovegrounddrainagepipingonsoffitofslab.Drilltherequired
holesizeanddepthaccordingtothesizeoftheanchorbolts.
b. Determinethelengthofsupportandfixittotheanchorboltsandensureallfixing
threadedrods,angles,andclampsarestraightandsecure.Cutexcesslengthof
threadedrod,paintwithsilverpaintandtiewarningtapetopreventanyinjury.
c. Installthedrainagepipesontothesupports.Ensureproperslopeandgradienti.e.
1in40to1in110aremaintainedforallhorizontalrunsofdrainagepipes.
d. Installallpipesandfittingsasperthefollowingprocedures:
i.
Ensurethatthepipesarecutsquarebeforetheyarejoinedandthatthe
insideofthepipesarefreefromanydebris.
ii.
Clean both surfaces to be joined by dry clean cloth to remove all dirt.
Applysolventcementaspermanufacturer'srecommendation.Insertpipe
intocoupling,withslighttwistingactionanduptofullsocketdepth.
iii.
Removeexcesssolventbyapieceofcloth.
e. Pipesandfittingsthatarepushfittypesaretobeconnectedasfollows:
i.
Lubricatethepipes(cutinsquareandchamfered)aswellasfittingswith
rubberlubricantandpushfittofullsocketdepth.
ii.
Withdrawpipe5mmonwastesystemand1Ommonsoilsystemtoallow
forexpansion.
iii.
Soil fittings with spigot ends should be inserted into sockets to depth
marks engraved on spigots. This procedure automatically allows for
expansion.
f. GradientIslopeshallbemaintainedasshownintheapprovedshopdrawingsand
aspermanufacturer'srecommendation.Forhorizontalventpipesrun,makesure
thatithasanupwardslope.
g. Pipesshallbeinstalledinsuchawaythatitshallbeatthecenterofthesleevesby
installingspacerorinsertbetweenpipeandsleeves.Detailsofthesleeves(type
ofmaterial,clearancebetweenpipeandsleeve,packingmaterials,etc.)shallbe
indicatedintheapprovedshopdrawings.
h. RaiseWIRforeverycompletedsectionofworkpriortoproceedtothenextcourse
ofactivity.

8.2. GravityTestingofDrainagePiping
a. Hydro test of piping will be carried out after completing the installation of
horizontalandriserpipesasperfollowingprocedure.
i.
TestDrainageandventpipingoncompletionofroughinginforleakage.
ii.
Installdrainoutletatthelowestpointofthedrainagepiping.
iii.
Closeopeninginpipingsystemandfillwithwatertopointofoverflow.
iv.
For15minutes,observesthelevelofwater,levelmustnotdrop.
v.
Inspectjointsifanyleakage.Ifanyleaksaredetected,repairthelaking
portionpriortoproceedingfurther.
vi.
Afterrectificationofanyleaks.Repeatthetestingprocedures.
vii.
Thestarttimeofgravitytesttoberecordedandthelevelshouldbeheld
foraminimumof2hours.
viii.
Alltesttoberecorded.
9. HazardousMaterialsandSubstances

10. WasteManagement
a. After installation is complete, contractors will ensure work area is free of any
rubbish/debristhathadaccumulatedthoughtheinstallationprocess.
b. Contractors will ensure that floor is free of any dust that will interfere with the
paintingprocess.
c. Afterinstallationisapproved,contractorswillkeepallplantmaterialandtoolsaway
fromwallandceilingtoprotectfromanypossibleandtomaintainfreeaccessinthe
eventofanemergency.
11. SpecialControlMeasures
AlloperativesshallstrictlyadherewiththeISPSafetyregulations.
11.1.
MethodStatementandRiskAssessmentBriefing:
Allpersonneldirectlyinvolvedwiththeoperationwillbebriefedonthecontent
of the method statement and risk assessment. In particular, the access
arrangementstosite,emergencyarrangementsandkeyrisksassociatedwith
theoperationwillbelookedat.

DeliveryBriefing:
Beforearrivalofnewdeliverytositeallpersonneldirectlyinvolvedwiththe
operationswillbe briefed aboutthecontentofthedelivery andthe related
installationplan.
DeliveryPaperworkandInstallationDrawingsarepartofthedeliveryandwill
be reviewed and discussed before the start of any new activities. The Store
Keeperisinchargeinmakingsurethatproperrecordsarekeptandmaterials
arestoredpermanufacturersrecommendation.
11.3.
DailysafetyTalkInstructionsToolboxtalk:
Everydayalloperativeswillgettogetherforanupdateonsafetyrequirements,
tool conditions and further planned actions as well as feedback on previous
completedtasks.
AllSitepersonnelwillbegivenatoolboxtalktoexplainallthesafetymeasures
put in place, and to explain the importance of not interfering with any fire
detection devices and firefighting equipment. They will be warned that
interference with any firefighting devices may result in police arrest and
potentiallyseverepenalties.
