Initial Test Observations

11. a. Do you enjoy going to the cinema? = a habit, something done repeatedly.
b. Do you fancy going to the cinema tonight? = because of tonight to fancy = to be interested in something
12. to smell it doesnt usually get the ING ending. If it does, the meaning is totally changed:
The curry smells fantastic = the smell the curry gives is fantastic.
The police dog is smelling the shirt. = it describes an action done by someone.
13. I havent spoken to anybody in a long time.
Because the verb is in a negative form we cannot add a negative pronoun: negative+negative = positive
Because the verb is in a negative we must add anybody.

If the verb were in an affirmative form we would have added somebody: I spoke to somebody yesterday.
14. I think theres someone at the door. = someone in front of the door, maybe knocking.
On the door = someone is sitting on the door: The kids are sitting on the old front door.
In the door = something inside the door: There is a termite in the wooden door.
15. Before and after the model verbs we do not add to:
He must come home. He must to come home.
You cant make an omlette without eggs. You cant to make an omlette without eggs.
I can swim. I can to swim.
A few years ago he could swim like a pro. A few years ago he could to swim like a pro.
16. I am standing in the front of the house.
17. When we tell about something that happened in the past we use Past Simple. If we start telling a story using a
certain verb tense, we continue using the same tense:
Ex: We had decided to take a walk the following morning, but this didnt sound good to some tourists.

Milk = uncountable noun.
many and a few = used for countable nouns.
little = used for uncountable nouns when we refer to quantity.
