Season Information
Class Information:
Sport Education Model: Badminton
Season will consist of 20 classes.
There will be a combination of pre season,
regular season and postseason games and
practices.
Class size of 30 students, 16 males and 14
females.
The class will meet twice a week for 50
minutes in length.
Equating to a 10 week season (unit).
The class will be held in the Main Gymnasium.
Round Robin Style, 5 teams, 6 Players, Doubles
Tournament
The gymnasium is 200 feet long and is 120 feet wide, bigger than your
average high school gym.
The Napolitano Badminton Season, will be held on six courts which are 44
feet long and 20 feet wide.
Affiliation Information
Mr. Nap`s period 5 class is very cooperative and is excited to start the Napolitano
Badminton Season Classic. He will be selecting 5 coaches out of his class. The requirement
to be chosen as coach is as follows: rarely misses class, respectful to others, follows the
rules of the class, is outgoing and willing to participate with all classmates, and most of all
is enthusiastic about class! After the five coaches are asked and accept the position, Mr.
Nap will conduct a lesson on the first day for forehand and backhand, Mr. Nap and the five
coaches will be circulating the room and assessing the students based on their skill level
and personality with the rest of the class. Afterwards, the coaches will meet with Mr. Nap
after school to determine the teams in a draft. The students will be rated on a scale of 14, rating for 1- pre-control, 2- control, 3- utilization, 4- proficiency. You can determine
that the skill level on each team is about even by calculating the averages of each player's
rating and the average per team will equal between 2.3 and 2.6. That will provide an equal
playing field for all teams skill wise. They will also be rated on personality based on
enthusiasm, 1-3, 1- low, 2- moderate, 3- high. There will be five teams consisting of 6
students each.

Coach
Expectations:
You will be the coach of your team. You are responsible for assessing
and drafting your team. Also, you will need to reiterate to your team
the rules of the game, and the roles they will serve when on duty team.
You can provide appropriate feedback to your players in a coaching
manor. You are responsible for bringing any problems from your team
to the commissioner. Also, you will decide which three players are on
which court.

Expectations:
They will be the glue of the team. They will make sure everyone on the
team is working well together and getting along. They are in charge of
working with the team to make their goals for the team and the class.
They will have basic knowledge of the game. They are responsible of
keeping a positive attitude and high enthusiasm for themselves and the
team.

Expectations:
The fitness leader is in charge of leading their team with a warm up
and a cool down. They will make sure that everyone on their team is
well stretched out before the game and is able to stretch them for a
cool down. They will research stretches and have a prepared warm up
and cool down for each class period. They will also be in charge of their
team's heart rate monitors when they are used in class.

Statistician
Expectations:
When observing the statistician is responsible for recording all stats in
class dojo. The statistician is responsible for keeping the stats for
their team, as well as organizing them. They will also export the stats
into the Google Sheets for each week. They will also be in charge of
keeping track of the score of each game. Also, they will report the
scores of their games to the Commissioner after the game. During the
game, they will be recording the stats on class dojo as well as, keeping
the score.

Expectations:
Write articles about important and cool events that occurred during
the class period. They will write recaps of the game for their teams,
previews of upcoming games and events (ie All-Star Event, Playoffs).
They will submit these to the Commissioner to be posted on the
league's webpage. Articles should be a minimum of 2 recaps.

Expectations:
The equipment managers will be in charge of having the courts set up
and ready to go for the beginning of the class. They will also have the
birdies and racquets out and accessible for all the students. The
speaker and projector will be out and ready for use. The class IPads
will be handled and will be at each court.

Expectations:
This is the role of ALL students in the class. The students will be on
time and prepared for the class every meeting period. The players will
be respectful to all officials, players, and all of the equipment. Players
will follow all the rules and display good Sportspersonship. They will
give positive feedback and accept feedback in a positive manner. They
will support everyone on their team and the rest of the students.

Expectations:
Each student will have an opportunity for this role. This role will be in
charge of enforcing the rules of badminton. The official will be making
calls that happen in the game based on the rules. They will also be

By the end of the season, students will be able to.
(P) Demonstrate competency in performing different types of shots in
badminton as well as knowing when it is appropriate to use which shot
when assessed by the teacher at the assessment combine at the end
season.

75% on a written quiz at the of the season.

General Rules:
-Match is 3 games played up to 15 points
Should it be tied, you must win by 2
- Scoring is rally style, both offense and defense can score
- Home team serves first game, Away team serves second, the if game 3 the
winning team of game 2 will serve
- Shuttlecock lands on the line, it is considered in
Serving Rules:
- Contact with shuttlecock must be made below the waist
- can be either forehand or backhand
- Shuttlecock contacts net and lands in the correct service box it is good
-The server must hit the shuttlecock in the alternate service box (if not =fault)
-Each time the offensive team scores and maintains possession, the server must
alternate side of the court to serve from (left to right, vice versa)
-After contact from serve, the shuttlecock can be hit anywhere on the court
-Served behind the service line
- Should a fault occur, you will be given a second serve (like tennis)

This two day event will put your skills to the test in both skill
competitions and games. Best of Luck!!
Shot Attack
On all 6 courts students will be competing to see who can get the most points
using different types of shots. There will be different targets symbolizing
spaces on the court that students can aim for to get a different point total.
Each target will have different point values, as shown in diagram. Each
student will get 6 chances. A student on the other side will toss them a birdie
and they will have to use different shots to score points. The top scorer at
each court will come together to decide the ultimate top scorer.
