PREFACE
Astrology is a noble science. Some say that it is indeed an art. Some others
reject it as they would an idol or an illusion. Some people who have no
disappointments or difficulties in their lives say that they have no faith in
astrology. I submit that astrology is not only a science, but that it can very
accurately guide you in making correct decisions at every level of your life. It can
give very precise results, such as a persons educational path and career in life,
the sharpness of his/her mind or the degree of an individuals brilliancy for
example.
Astrology is not fortune telling. It is based on the scientific calculations of the
different aspects of planetary constellations at a certain time. People born into
this world at any instant have certain characteristics which are related to the
positions of the heavenly bodies. These characteristics are different than those
people born at other times, according to the planetary positions at their birth. The
horoscope is the time chart of the person at the time of birth and from this
horoscope, by reverse calculations, one can determine the birth time, birth date
and birthplace as well.
However, it should be noted that as soon as a child is born, his environment
begins to modify his character. Mostly, education and upbringing molds the
personality of any individual. We all have certain qualities which, according to our
environment, develop in a positive or negative manner. Thus, selfishness may
emerge as unselfishness, kindness may become cruelty, and a constructive
person may, through frustration, become destructive, and so on. The apparent
character depends upon so many variables. . . the country, the area, the
surroundings, the family and their customs, the mother and her education, the
foods they eat, the teachers and of course, the friends.
The latent characteristics with which we were born can therefore, through
environment and good or bad training, become something superficially different,
and act in contradiction with the astrological descriptions of the character. The
true character will be buried deep beneath these essentially superficial traits.
As of today, the knowledge of astrology is still incomplete. This is due to a
misinterpretation of the writings of the ancient sages because of language
barriers and the inability to correctly translate the inner essence of these
teachings. Most of these works have been lost through the course of time. The
translations of the verses, interpreted by individuals, may not be correct or may
be colored by personal opinions. Major untranslated portions are either
unavailable or known to certain people and yet have remained hidden. Therefore
the present concept of this science contains only a certain portion of it. The same
case applies with the Ashtakavarga system. The major portion of it is lost, and
therefore not available. That is the reason why this very important system is not
followed. The Upachayas are referred to in all the textbooks, but its use in finding
the results of timed events is not described anywhere. The Ashtakavarga system
is a very precise and systematical way of finding the true strengths of the planets.
Not only can this system give the strengths of the planets for each and every
house, it can also give the shares of the planets, as well as the results of all the
houses.
All planets aspect the 7th house from themselves, always. The lords of opposite
signs are always enemies. Similarly, the opposite house denotes opposite
functions. It is easy to note that the seventh sight is always on either the
enemies house or on its opposite criteria house. The planet in its Uccha sign
(exaltation) looks on its neecha sign (debilitation) or vice versa. It should also be
noted that in the horoscope, opposite signs have opposite meanings. Consider
the 3rd and 9th house for instance. One stands for Initiative and using ones own
efforts to acquire things. The other stands for luck and good fortune. These are
opposing factors. Where some people receive many things through sheer luck
without expending any effort or struggle to acquire them, others have to struggle
long and hard to get anything at all. The Fourth house gives family happiness
and its opposite sign, the tenth house, represents Power and authority. Family
versus Career. . .If one has power, fame or authority, it becomes difficult for him
to assign quality time for his family thus imposing a certain type of conflict. Such
is the case with the remaining houses. So, if a planet is in an exalted position in a
house, how can it give the same or good results for its opposite sign? Surely it
will spoil the results of its opposite sign. Hence it should be noted that any planet
that is situated in any particular house will give the opposite results of equal
strength but in a negative direction. The strength of the planets should be
considered only by the amount of benefic points the planet receives in any
particular house. The exaltation or debilitation of the planet according to sign, will
definitely increase or reduce the overall result, but this will be based only on the
benefic points that any planet gets in any particular house.
While learning this great science from my guru, the late Shri BrijGopal Shastri
of Amravati (vidharbha), I came across some handwritten books in his
possession on Ashtakavarga. He had explained to me the meaning of so many
verses written in that book. Those verses were not available in any of the current
books. Meanings of some of those verses have been noted down in my diary. In
1966, I had moved to Satara. There after I had no contact with my guru. While
doing detailed study on the subject, I had found that those verses were very
important, and had be studied in detail. After a long time, I returned to my native
place, and came to know that my guru had passed on and all his hand written
material on this subject was no longer available through his heirs. My guru had
married very late in life. When he passed on, his children were much too small to
understand the science. All his treasures of books were of no use to his heirs, so
they discarded all of it, and sold it as raddi to kabadi. I was very disappointed
and tried to recollect his teachings from my notes. The write-up available with
me although not adequate, was sufficiently enough however to study and apply
in a brand new direction.
There are 150 nadis in every sign. The duration of each nadi is in the range from
8 to 115 seconds. The nadis of twins will be different, and so will be their fate.
But unfortunately details about this are not known. Actually the nadi is nothing
but the shodasavarga (16th harmonic chart). If we cast all the shodasavarga
charts, definitely there will be a change in some of them after a time lapse of
even 8 seconds. That is the main reason why the fate of twins is not necessarily
the same.
The Ashtakavarga system is based on the relative positions of the planets. The
benefic or malefic places are determined with respect to the other planets.
Therefore this system can be employed for all the 16 divisional charts. Hence
only this and this system can give much better results then any other system.
I have been a student of astrology from 1961 for nearly 38 years and have
experimented in my own way with various methods of interpretations of
horoscopes mainly derived from ancient classical sources. The Ashtakavarga
System, on which I have received notes, has engaged my attention for a long
time now. It occupies an important place in the general scheme of Hindu
astrology and offers considerable scope for further research, especially in the
matter of timing events. A large number of horoscopes have been studied in the
light of Ashtakavarga and a few important discoveries have been made. My
specialty lies in finding the period for marriage and timing events. With the help of
this Ashtakavarga system and with some research experience in the field, I have
full faith in the accuracy of this system.
The Ashtakavarga method of prediction has been quite popular with the rank and
file of Hindu Astrology. But as usual, the method is so indiscriminately employed
that its practical utility is often lost sight of. Under some wrong impression, it was
known only as a system for finding out the longevity. It was discarded for some
other reasons also. The main reason is the complicated method used for casting
the Ashtakavarga of the planets manually. It was a time consuming job, requiring
much concentration. But now with the help of computers it is a very easy job. I
have also developed an "Ashtakavarga Chakra which can give the
Ashtakavarga and Sarvashtakavarga within a few seconds. With the help of this
chakra, people who dont have a computer can also cast the Ashtakavarga
tables very easily.
The particular Ashtakavarga system that was taught to me by my guru, when
used in the interpretation of a horoscope, can give very accurate results. I have
found this system to be highly useful in making predictions and it is very reliable.
Of course, it requires a thorough knowledge of the various principles and rules of
astrology, as well as a capacity for interpretative skills.
While studying various horoscopes, Ive found vast differences between textbook
law and the actual results that come to pass. For instance, as per the text of
Hindu astrology, the marriage of an individual is performed when Guru (Jupiter)
transits particular houses or makes aspects to the seventh house from itself (i.e.
its transit through lagna, third house, seventh, eleventh etc.). So many times, it
does not coincide with the fact, although it may do so accidentally. It is also said
that when the marriage is related to the seventh house, it is partly true. But it is
not always performed in the dasha or antardasha of the lord of seventh house.
Jupiter is said to be a very benefic planet. Its aspect on any house enhances the
good results. Some say the presence of Jupiter in any house takes away from
the results of that particular house. Saturn and Mars are malefic planets and
mainly their presence spoils the results of that house. I always observe the
discrepancies in such rules. Mostly the results experienced by the person were
quite opposite the results given in the textbooks. I have discussed this topic as
well with the most renowned personalities on the subject. But unfortunately no
one was able to answer exactly to the point. Moreover there was not a single
system that was able to consistently give the timing event. The same is the case
with the dasha system. There are so many various types of dashas, yet there is
no clear understanding given in any text as to which one is correct, or when to
follow which dasha system. As per my experience, the Vimshottari dasha
system is correct, and gives very satisfactory results.
The Ayanamsha factor is also a very important matter in calculating the dasha
and the correct value of the ayanamsha can give the correct result for the
Vimshottari dasha.
In general, it is said that there is a direct relationship between the lord of the
house and the dasha or the antardasha lord for considering the timing of an
event for the outcome connected to any house. But such a relationship is not
experienced. There is no perfect rule which can give the correct timing for an
event regarding any house. The dasha system does not always match up with
the houses (for which they represent) nor its lord. As a result, many other dasha
systems have been introduced by various research scholars.
In the Ashtakavarga system the powers of the planets are mainly determined by
the relative positions of the planets. This power is greater than the power of the
planet by itself in any particular sign or house, thus giving results that are more
closely aligned to the facts.
All the planets, except for the Sun and the Moon, have dual lordships. Mars is the
lord of Aries and Scorpio. Venus is that of Taurus and Libra. Mercury for Gemini
and Virgo, Jupiter for Sagittarius and Pisces, and Saturn for Capricorn and
Aquarius. There are so many results related to the lordship of the planets,
especially the lordship of the 6th, 8th, and 12th houses. If the lord of any sign or
house is situated in either the 6th, 8th, or 12th, then the result of that house is
considered to be spoiled. Though this statement may be correct to some extent,
it is not perfect. Regarding the lordship of the sixth house, it is very confusing,
because except for the Sun and Moon, all other planets have dual lordship. For a
Cancer ascendant, Jupiter is the lord of the sixth and the ninth house. Confusion
arises when we have to consider which lord to take into consideration. If it is
situated in seventh house, then what will be the effect? Should it be treated as a
ninth lord or a sixth lord? When testing the experiences of many people, the
results, when applied strictly by the book were vastly different than expected. The
planet that is said to be debilitated due to its position in its neecha rashi, or in the
house of its debilitation, is experienced as giving good results. Similarly, the
planet said to be exalted by sign, was found giving the worst result. This same
concept can be stated in a more precise terms in this Ashtakavarga system. The
planet should be said to be debilitated when it gets less than 3 points in its
Ashtakavarga. The planet that gets more than 4 points should be said to be
exalted. The planet that gets 4 points is said to be neutral. It is immaterial which
sign it is in. The actual results coincide with the results given in the text when
they are judged to be exalted or debilitated only on the Ashtakavarga power. It
should also be noted that only the planet alone by its rulership or its placement in
any particular house is not sufficient. There are some other houses, which are
equally responsible for the results of a particular house. In the textbooks, the first
house is said to deal with beginning of the life, health, means of earning (by own
effort or by serving others) personality, character and childhood. In general the
results related to the first house are judged by its lord, the placement of its lord,
the planets situated in first house, planets aspecting the first house, or planets
aspecting the lord of first house or situated with it. By applying only these
concepts, perfect results will still not be ascertained. Sometimes the answer
cannot be found in texts. The same applies here to other houses.
The Ayanamsha is an important factor. The sayan (tropical) longitude of the
planet less the Ayanamsha is the nirayana (sidereal) longitude of the planets.
There is no reliable and perfect value of the ayanamsha. The nirayana Longitude
of the planets is based only on the ayanamsha, while the Vimshottari dasha is
based on the nirayana longitude of the Moon. The Mahadasha (main period) of
Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury or Venus is longer, so a difference of even one
degree in the ayanamsha can make a difference in the Mahadasha by one and a
half years or so, which changes everything. Suppose we are calculating the
timing of an event for a marriage. If we find the significator that can indicate
marriage in any particular case, but the Antardasha of such a planet differs by
one year or so, then the outcome will not be correct. Hence, the Ayanamsha is a
very important factor in timing the event. I prefer to use my own customized
ayanamsha which is shorter than the Lahiri by 54 minutes and gives me the most
accurate results. In some cases the answer only differs by approximately 18
days.
LESSON 1
WHAT IS THE ASHTAKAVARGA SYSTEM?
This system is devised as a numerical scheme of interpretation that lets us
easily see a snapshot assessment of the strength of a house thru a unique
point system.
The Ashtakavarga system is a method of calculating the powers of the
planets relative to each other. Therefore, it can be used in any chart i.e.
all the divisional charts, along with Chaleta Bhava charts (diurnal charts)
and even with Horary Astrology. This system also gives the power of each
planet for all twelve houses. For each and every house, all seven planets
contribute their power or strength in terms of numerical value. This makes
it easy to compare the powers of the planets for each house. There is no
other system which can give such a clear cut view of the comparative
strengths of all the planets
By employing the Ashtakavarga system along with other principals, the
following things can be determined with great accuracy :
1) Predicting the general strengths of the planets and the houses
2) Anticipating certain important events in a persons life
3) Forecasting dasha results
4) Overall life readings
5) Profession of the person
6) Timing events for important results
7) Day to day power of the horoscope and results
8) Marking the evolution of the achievements in the life.
9) Prasna Charts
10) Political and Social forecasting
11) Transit results
The powers of the planets depends on its relative position versus other
planets. This can be judged at a glance the Ashtakavarga chart. Making a
judgment of the planet only by its sign or placement in a particular house
without considering the planets power with respect to other planets
doesnt give an accurate assessment of the overall picture.
In the Ashtakavarga system, the Ashtakavarga charts are cast using the
natal chart and the benefic points. The individual Ashtakavarga chart is
also known as the Bhinnashtakavarga. The combined effect given in one
chart is known as the total Ashtakavarga chart or the Sarvashtakavarga
chart. The individual chart and the sarvashtakavarga charts are both
required for calculation purposes. Some also include the Ashtakavarga of
the Lagna, Rahu and Ketu, but as per my experience I dont recommend
this. The outer planets like Uranus, Neptune, Pluto are not taken into
consideration either. Some people cast the malefic Ashtakavarga charts or
the Rekha ashtakavarga chart, which is really nothing more than the
repeated work. The total of benefic and malefic points in a house, for a
planet is eight. If the benefic points are known, then automatically we
know the malefic points. Eight minus the benefic points gives the malefic
points. The total benefic and malefic points in a house in
sarvashtakavarga always comes to 56. There are seven planets and each
contributes eight points, so 7 X 8 = 56. Hence, if we know the benefic
points, obviously malefic points are also known. (56 less the benefic points
= the malefic points). For example, if a house contributes 28 benefic
points, it means it still has 28 malefic points remaining. Therefore the
result of that house will be normal. The house that gets less than 28
benefic points will give less of a result as indicated by that house. Similarly
if any house contributes more than 28 points then the results denoted by
that house will be enhanced. The grand total of all the benefic points
distributed by the seven planets and the lagna always total 337. The
contribution of each planet is given in the Ashtakavarga chart of that
planet, as given below.

The above shows a basic ashtakavarga table before all the points are
filled in. The top row represents the houses in the chart. In order to avoid
confusion as to whether the top row is the house or the numbered sign, I
will add the names of the signs underneath the houses. In this table, the
signs represent a chart with an ARIES lagna, but they will always rotate
under the stationery house signs in the top row, so that the proper lagna
sign for the chart will always go under the 1st house column. If for
example, AQUARIUS was the ascendant for the chart, then the order of
the planets starting under the 1st house house would be Aq, Pi, Ar, Ta, Ge,
12
Ca, Le, Vi, Li, Sc, Sg, Ca. The side row lists the 7 planets. Each row will
represent the individual planets point distribution throughout the houses in
a numerical value from 0-8, zero being the weakest and 8 being the most
powerful. At the bottom is a row for the totals of all the points accumulated
for each column. The last column totals up the points in each row of
planets. The accumulated totals for both rows and the columns will always
be 337.
Lets take an example and calculate the chart of a male, born on October
26, 1961 at 9:45am in Nagpur, INDIA, 21N09, 079E06. Use the
Ayanamsha of 22:17:42. The charts will be shown in both Northern and
Southern styles to accommodate individual preferences.

Here we can see that all the planets contribute various points to each
house. Remember that minimum points can go as low as zero and the
maximum can go as high as 8. No planet can have more than 8 points to a
house.
The numbers highlighted in red indicate the planetary positions in the
chart for that row as indicated by the planet to the left. For example, we
can easily see that the SUN is located in the 12th house and contributes 5
points to this house. The MOON is located in the 7th house and
contributes 5 points also to that house and so forth.
13
LESSON 2
Benefic and Malefic Planets
MEANING: If any planet that is in its debilitated sign, in its fallen sign, or in the
house of its enemy still has more than 4 points in its Ashtakavarga, it will give
only benefic results. From these two Slokas, it is clear that the planet will give
14
the result according to the points it gets in its Ashtakavarga. The result is not
dependent on the sign or the place it is situated. More Slokas can be referred to
clarify this rule:
Sloka 3
Ye chavsanaripu randhraturanbhaga |
Ye nichapapripu khecharvargaykta : ||
Ye mandi rashipatinna sah bandhavashch |
Te sarvamukhaphaldastvabindukashchen ||
15
The Late Shri K.S. Krishanamurti, founder of K.P. Paddhat, also agrees that the
planets do not give the results as per their natural natures. In reference to
Jupiter, he states that it has lost its benefic power in the era of Kalyuga and that
he has experienced the malefic effects of Jupiter firsthand. But in spite of
Kalyuga, I tend to disagree. It is the effect of the points that it receives in its own
place that truly makes the difference. An aspect of Jupiter with more points is
always malefic. The same rule applies to all planets. With reference to Saturn,
Krishnamurti says it gives malefic effects based on the constellation in which it
resides. Perhaps, if he would have come across the Ashtakavarga system first,
his whole theory would have been quite different.

LESSON 3
Planetary Aspects
All planets aspect the 7th house from themselves.
Saturn aspects the 3rd, 7th, and 10th house from itself.
Mars aspects the 4th, 7th and 8th house from itself.
Jupiter aspects the 5th, 7th and 9th house from itself.
It can also be noted that the lords of opposite houses are enemies of each other.
The seventh sign from the uccha (exalted sign) rashi is the neecha (debilitation)
rashi of the same planets. For example Cancer is the uccha rashi for Jupiter, and
its opposite sign of Capricorn, is the neecha rashi for Jupiter. Similar is the case
for other planets. The debilitated sign is always the opposite sign of the exalted
sign. Similarly, the rulers of opposite signs are enemies of each other, or at least,
they are not friends of each other.
Here is one question that arises: How can a benefic planet aspect its enemys
house or its neecha rashi by benefic sight?
Certainly it will not as it can only malefically aspect its enemys sign. If any planet
is in its exalted sign, such as Jupiter in Cancer, its aspect will be on Capricorn,
which is its neecha rashi.
As per the write up in the old hand written book, it was clearly mentioned that a
planet with more than 4 benefic points will aspect in the same strength, but in a
malefic manner. Similarly any planet with less then 4 benefic points, will aspect in
a benefic manner, equal to 8 minus the points of the planet. In other words, if any
planet has only 2 benefic points then its aspect will be benefic by 8-2 = 6 points.
The following table gives the values of the planetary aspects.

As you can see in the chart above, the maximum amount of points that any
house can receive in the Bhinnashtakavarga chart is 8. By subtracting the
benefic points from the maximum allowance of 8, we can easily see the balance
of malefic points. If the malefic point balance is more than the benefic point
balance, the malefics are the dominating factor for the house. If the benefics
outnumber the malefic balance, then the benefic factor dominates the house.
Planets having more than 4 points, aspect malefically and planets with less than
4 points, aspect benefically. (In Western astrology, similar results are indicated)
In Hindu astrology opposite house rulers are enemies of each other.

If a malefic planet is situated in any particular house, then the results pertaining
to that house are said to be spoiled. In fact every house is said to represent more
then one event in the life. For example, the fifth house represents education,
children, intelligence, emotions, fame and house of crown etc. The presence of
any malefic planet in the fifth house should spoil all the above results. But it is not
so in every case. Suppose a chart has Cancer as a lagna, and Saturn is situated
in the fifth house of Scorpio. Saturn, being a malefic, should give ill results for the
things represented by the fifth house. At the same time, Saturn will be aspecting
the seventh, the eleventh, and the second house, so it should also spoil the
results concerned with all these houses. But it is not experienced in even 1% of
the cases. The result is quite different than this.
Generally, it is said that the aspect of a benefic planet is good and that of a
malefic planet is bad. But in my studies I have found the reverse to be true, that
the aspects of benefic planets are always malefic and the aspects of malefic
planets are always found to be benefic. Jupiter, Mercury, Venus and Moon are
naturally benefic planets. Saturn and Mars are natural malefic planets. As per the
Ashtakavarga theory, the benefic planet is the one that gets more then 4 points in
its Ashtakavarga and the malefic planet is the planet that gets less then 4 points,
while the planet which gets exactly 4 points is said to be neutral.
After long observation and experimentation, I came to the conclusion that a
planet gives the opposite results for its aspect. This means that a planet getting
more than four points or bindus, afflicts the house it aspects with negative
strength equal to the points it is having. This also proves correct for other aspects
of Saturn, Mars and Jupiter. Saturn or Mars, if they are in the house where in
their respective Ashtakavargas, they get less then 4 bindus, they give beneficial
results for the house they aspect. The total benefic and malefic points a planet
gets for any house are eight. This means if a planet gets 3 benefic points for any
particular house then definitely it will get 5 malefic points for the same house.
Similarly if a planet gets five benefic points in a house where it is, then it will get
three malefic points for the same house. Thus the total benefic and malefic points
are eight. This is a special effect we get in the Ashtakavarga system. We get the
actual result in numerical value for the benefic or malefic effect. Following table
will show the actual benefic or malefic bindus (points):
Although if Jupiter, which is said to be most benefic planet, gets less then 4
points i.e. 3, 2, 1, or 0, then definitely it is going to give malefic results for the
house. For the same reason some astrologers believe that Jupiter spoils the
result of the place where it is situated, which is 50 percent true.
Now as I have mentioned earlier, a planet will give opposite results for its
aspected places. A planet with five benefic points will give the aspect effect of
five malefic points and vice versa. It should be made clear that even if Jupiter
acquires six benefic points in its Ashtakavarga in its place, then for the places it
is aspecting, i.e. 5th, 7th, and 9th places from itself, it will send malefic results of
19
six Rekhas (negative points). Obviously, Jupiter will give benefic results for itself
in the place where it resides.
The same thing applies to Mars and Saturn as they can both give beneficial
results for the house they are situated in if they have more points in any place. At
the same time they will spoil the results of the places they aspect (due to the
opposite aspect effect).
It is a general notation that the benefic points are denoted by bindus (points) and
malefic points are indicated by Rekhas (dashes). From the illustrated tables, it
should be clear that every planet contributes both good and bad results for the
same house. Only when its benefic points are more, then the planet is said to be
benefic. This law is applicable to all the planets including Saturn and Mars (which
are naturally malefic).

LESSON 4
Meanings of the Houses
All the different areas of life are distributed among the 12 houses and
each house influences certain matters. In order to denote which area of
the life is being focused on, we look to these houses for their particular
significations as follows:
First house: (Lagna) Adya, Kalpa, Janma (birth), physical body,
physical features, living or livelihood, character, personality, individuality,
temperament, color, general constitution, health, vitality, vigor,
tendencies, struggle for life, success/ failures, fortune/misfortune, honor,
dignity, well being, head and upper part of the body, gain and profit of
younger brother, patrimony of mother, higher studies, heirs, death,
income, overall happiness, self respect, ego, purchase of house, land,
property, vehicles.
(Note: In the sub period of the lord of the first house or the planets
situated in the Lagna with more then 4 points, the results will be linked to
fourth and eighth house matters. Students are requested to check out
this statement as well as any further statements given below in red italic
letters. This thought may be new for most of us. Check this with the
known results of a chart familiar to you.)
Second house: Wealth, food, right eye, face, speech, family, relatives,
auspicious matters, property, money and money matters, bonds and
securities belonging to native, bank balances, grandfather, grand
mother, wife, children, ability to express the thoughts, marriage,
description of the partner, memory, imaginations, acquisition of a house,
vehicles, foreign relations, short trips, authority, success of the children,
childbirth.
(Note: In the sub period of the lord of the second house or the planets
situated in the second house with more then 4 points, the results will be
linked to fifth and/or ninth house matters)
Third house: Courage, ear/hearing, firmness, heroism, mother (NOTE:
In standard Vedic, the mother is represented by the 4th house while in
this system, the mother is represented by the 3rd house.), brothers and
sisters, bad thoughts, mental strength, mental inclinations (for study),
assistance from others, acquisition of bank loans, correspondence,
21
22
(Note: In the sub period of the lord of the seventh house or the planets
situated in the seventh with more then 4 points, the results will be linked
up to tenth and/ or second house matters.)
Eighth house: Life, Longevity, defeat, insult, sorrow, scandal, bribes,
death, obstacles, mystery, misery, delay, imprisonment, theft, robbery,
income derived through life partner, etc
(Note: In the sub period of the lord of the eighth house or the planets
situated in the eighth with more then 4 points, the results will be linked
up to eleventh and/ or third house matters.)
Ninth house: Father, guru, teacher, worship, luck, Dharma, faith, grand
son, fortune, wisdom, post graduation, religious and philosophical
beliefs, prosperity, long journey, acquisition of landed property etc.
(Note: In the sub period of the lord of the ninth house or the planets
situated in the ninth with more then 4 points, the results will be linked up
to twelfth and/ or fourth house matters.)
Tenth house: Livelihood, authority, honor, work, commerce, trade,
business, success, position, command, quality, children, status. It is also
known as the apex of the horoscope, respect, ambition, etc.
(Note: In the sub period of the lord of the tenth house or the planets
situated in the tenth with more then 4 points, the results will be linked up
to lagna and/ or fifth house matters.)
Eleventh house: Profit, gain, income, desire, wealth, acquisition,
fulfillment of desire, trusts, profit and pleasure, wishes, etc.
(Note: In the sub period of the lord of the eleventh house or the planets
situated in the eleventh with more then 4 points, the results will be linked
up to second and/ or sixth house matters.)
Twelfth house: Bondage, loss, bed comforts, Moksha, long journeys,
foreign relations, expenditures, divine worship, loss, misery etc.
(Note: In the sub period of the lord of the twelfth house or the planets
situated in the twelfth with more then 4 points, the results will be linked
up to third and/ or seventh house matters.)
23
On the next page is a Summary Table that easily illustrates these notes.
If, for example, a person has an AQUARIUS ascendant and is going
through a MARS SATURN dasa, the subperiod lord of the Lagna,
SATURN, would now be linked up to the 4th and/or the 8th house. During
this time period, events revolving around either/ both of these house
matters will be in play. This is also true for any planets residing in the
Lagna that have more than 4 bindus or points in their individual
bhinnashtakavargas. They will also be linked up to these houses as well.

General concepts:
The results of any house are dependent upon the correct interpretations
of the following things:
1. The strengths, aspects, conjunctions and placements of the lord of the
house.
2. The natural qualities of the house, its lord, the planets situated in it,
and the aspects on the house.
3. The strength of the house itself.
4. Yogas influencing the house, its lord etc.

LESSON 5
THE UPACHAYA HOUSES
The timing event of any result is very important. For example, lets
consider the case of marriage. The life partner is usually determined from the
seventh house. But in research work done on at least 100 charts, it was found
that in a maximum of up to 40 % of the cases, the marriages were performed in
the antardasha of the lord of the fourth or the twelfth house, even if there was no
involvement with the seventh house or its lord at all. There was no direct relation
of these houses with the seventh house. The twelfth house is the sixth from the
seventh house, and the fourth house is the tenth house from the seventh. In 15%
of the cases, the marriages were performed in the antardasha of the planets
situated in the fourth and twelfth house with 4 or more benefic points from the
bhinnashtakavarga of that planet.
In the same case studies, the marriages of 55 % of the people having an Aries
lagna were performed in the antardasha of the Moon or Jupiter (The Moon is
the fourth lord and Jupiter is the ninth and the twelfth lord). The Mahadasa Lord
seemed to be the least factor concerned in the timing of the event. The different
signs in which these two planets were located, were also not very effective
accept in some special cases. Below is a table showing the different lagnas and
significators:

Out of these twelve lagnas, only in four cases did the marriage significators have
lordship of the seventh house, which could be nothing more than a coincidence.
These significators are highlighted in RED in the table and have dual lordship as
26
you can see from the 2nd column in red. The also have lordship of one of the
houses, either the fourth or the twelfth, along with seventh house. It is clear from
the above statement that the seventh house or its lord has a lesser role in the
marriage time than the other significators.
I came upon the following Slokas Sloka 5:
Dashapatirlagnagato yadi syat |
trishdshaika daragashcha lagnat||
ta ta shton vargopyatha tatsuhrudva |
lagne shubho va shubhadadasasa||
MEANING: Any planet receiving more bindus in the 1st, 6th and 10th houses in
its Ashtakavarga will give benefic results as related to first house matters in its
antardasa. This formula can be applied to all other houses, using each one as
the first house starting point and studying the 1st, 6th and 10th houses from that
point on. The lord of the third and the eleventh house also plays a key role in the
event. Similarly, planets located in the 3rd and the 11th houses from the house
under consideration with 4 or more benefic points in these houses from their
bhinnastakwarg, also perform a key role. The third, sixth, tenth and eleventh
houses are known as the Upachaya Houses and has a very important role to
play in the results of these houses.
The key concept for finding the timing event for any instant of the life is based on
this formula. I have tried this same principal using different houses as the starting
point. Then, by figuring out the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses from that starting
point, I came to the conclusion that the planet that gets the highest bindus in
these houses is the significator planet that gives the results in its antardasha as it
relates to the 1st house starting point.
27
usually get wrong results in 90 percent of the cases. However, when using the
Upachaya method, the accuracy level becomes much more efficient and greatly
increases itself up to 90%.
This table shows the Upachayas from every house as follows:

In the above table one will note that I have distinguished the Upachaya Houses
as Main and Secondary. Secondary upchaya houses act only through their lord
and the planets located in these houses (but only if they receive more than 4
points). The main upchaya houses, on the other hand, are directly involved in the
outcome. More detail will be discussed later on.
Events of the life as indicated by each house and its upchaya house
Each house is allocated some event in the life of an individual. Keen observation
can easily prove that the results denoted by any house are the by-product of
some other house.
Suppose we take the case of children in general. Usually, this is signified by the
fifth house. The birth of a child is a factor of the fifth house, along with the 12th,
2nd, 9th, and 10th. The second house denotes the family members and relatives.
There is an increase in the members of the family as soon as the child is born. A
newly born child also changes the relationship as the male now becomes a father
and the female becomes a mother. Therefore, the status is also changed and it
can be said that the 10th house is also affected by this. The ninth house also
indicates continuation of the heritage and its heirs. The twelfth house indicates
28
the mating of the male and the female, without which any child can be born
through natural means (excluding test tube babies here).
So instead of looking at the fifth house first, consider the child to be the result of
the twelfth house and its upchaya houses as indicated by the red house numbers
below). We then see that the fifth house is the sixth from the twelfth. (as noted in
BLUE). Similarly the ninth house is the tenth from the twelfth house. The second
and the tenth are three and eleven houses away from 12th. Thus, the birth of a
child using the Upachaya method, is the factor of the 12th, 2nd, 5th, 9th and 10th
houses.

All the above houses play a key role in the timing of the event and must be
considered. If any of these houses do not contribute, then it will be difficult to
have a child. The lords of the 3rd and the 11th house from the twelfth means that
the lords of the second and the tenth houses play a vital role. Similarly, any
planet in the 2nd and 10th house with more than 4 points also has importance
here.
In order to determine a timed event that focuses on children or childbirth,
one should consider the 12th house and the upchaya houses from it.
29
First house: From the first house and its upchaya houses, the capacity of the
person, the capability of doing ones own business, service, line of the business,
social status, category in the service etc. and the timed event of such various
matters can be properly assessed.
Second house: From the second house and its upchaya houses, the marriage,
the happiness or conflicts in the married life, number of marriages, unmarried
state, friendships with the opposite sex and the timing events of all these matters
can be judged.
(Please note that I have done much research on hundreds of charts in order to
test this principle and have found it to be VERY accurate. This method can be
tested for any person married or unmarried. The correctness of the chart can also
be checked and the correction of the birth time can be rectified to seconds. The
compatibility can also be judged for male and female charts. The proper partner
can be selected by applying this method to both charts. The marriage time for
both male and female should coincide.)
Third house: From the third house and its upchaya houses, the longevity and
the health can be judged, along with the timing of the event.
Fourth house: From the fourth house and its upchaya houses, the luck factor,
favorable or unfavorable time etc. can be judged so the time period is clear.
Fifth house: From the fifth house and its upchaya houses, the achievement of
success, authority, higher post, success in elections, starting ones own business
can be judged.
Sixth house: From the sixth house and its upachaya houses, the means of
earning money or a favorable period for earning can be judged.
Seventh house: From the seventh house and its upachaya houses, the sexual
relationships with the opposite sex other than the marriage partner, foreign
relations and bed comforts can be judged.
Eight house: From the eighth house and its upchaya houses, details about the
individuality and the personality can be confirmed.
Ninth house: From the ninth house and its upchaya houses, the happiness
from relations and inheritable property can be judged.
Tenth house: From the tenth house and its upchaya houses, courage, brothers
and sisters, writing of books, contracts, agreements, publications etc. can be
judged.
30
Eleventh house: From the eleventh house and its upchaya houses, anything
regarding landed property, home comforts and ones own house can be judged.
Twelfth house: From the twelfth house and its upachaya houses, any matters
revolving around children can be properly assessed.
A more thorough range was covered on the meanings of the houses in the last
chapter and by using this method in this way, the whole life can be assessed with
a detailed amount of accuracy. Remember that these significations are the same
as indicated by the sages for the sixth house from these houses!

LESSON 6
Krushnas Ayanamsa Table
There are two systems of calculating the longitude of the planets, the Tropical Zodiac
(Sayana) and the Sidereal Zodiac (Nirayana). The longitudinal differences between
these two systems is known as the ayanamsa.
We use the Sidereal system, so the correct value on the ayanamsa is very important.
The longitudes of the planets are dependent upon the ayanamsa as it will effect not
only the longitude of the Ascendant, but the 16 divisional charts as well. The
Vimshottari Dasha is calculated from the Moons longitudes and one second of
difference may result in 1 to 3.6 hours difference in the dasha period, so a difference
of one minute will be equal to 2.5 days to 9 days.
Different scientists and astrologers are of different opinions about this overlapping of
both zodiacs. Both of them actually overlapped in 285AD, but since then, the
accumulated out of alignment difference between these two zodiacs has widened
throughout the years to 23-24 degrees and is known as the precession of the
equinox. Due to this precession, it moves at a rate of about one degree every 72
years. Thus, the starting point when the two zodiacs last coincided, has been given
anywhere from 388 B.C to 498 A.D. The values can range anywhere from 46.3
seconds to 59.9 seconds per year.
I have chosen the starting date that both zodiacs coincided last, as 24th Feb 366 A.D.
In the year 1900, Krushnas Ayanamsa is 21:33:23. The yearly speed of precession
from 1900 to 2000 is 50.96. From the year 2001 to 2100, the yearly rate of precession
is 51 seconds.
This will give the most satisfactory value of Krushnas Ayanamsa.
32
Over a period of one year or 365.25 days, the total precession is 00:00:51 or 51
seconds. Therefore 365.25 is the equivalent of 51 seconds and 71 is equivalent to how
many seconds have gone by so far. The math now becomes: 71 / 365.25 * 51
seconds = 9.913758 seconds. Round this off to 10 seconds and add those 10 seconds
to the ayanamsa value for the year 1949 that can be found in Krushnas Ayanamsa
Table on the next page. (see the Formula Chart below).

The total value in BOLD lettering will be in seconds, so addition should also be in
seconds. The final ayanamsha for the date of March 12, 1949 is 22:15:09
The precession for the year 1900 to 2000 may be taken as 50.96
For years 2000 to 2100, it is 51.00
For years 2100 to 2200, it is 51.05
For years 2200 to 2300, it is 51.08
For years 2300 to 2400, it is 51.14
Actually, the increase is approximately 0.044 seconds over a span of 100 years, so
per year, it is increasing by a value of 0.00044 seconds per year.
On the next page, I will give my Ayanamsha Table. It starts off with the year 366AD
(Feb 24th), then reverts to Jan 1st for all the other longitudes. Starting from the year
1919, it will give every consecutive year thereafter up until the year of 2100. From the
years 2200-2500, it lists the ayanamsa in 100 year intervals. (marked in RED in table).

LESSON 7
Krushnas Planetary Strengths Worksheet
The following worksheet gives an accurate summary of the overall strengths of
each of the planets as well as their relative strengths to each other.
Planets receiving LESS than 12 points in row 18 are considered MALEFIC.
Planets receiving MORE than 12 points in row 18 will give BENEFIC results for
the indicated event as listed in House B.
The timed event can be judged by the planets receiving the most points and the
results can be experienced in the sub period of such planets.
The full worksheet in color is on the next page, so that you will be able to print
out the whole worksheet on one separate page and use it as a template for future
charts if you choose to do it manually.
In the following pages, I will present an Example Worksheet with all the data filled
out in RED type. (Blank boxes will be represented here by a bold RED dash.)
Then I will explain in detail the process of how to go through each Row of the
Worksheet with simple illustrations as I go along to make it clear as to how I
arrive at the final strengths of the planets.

Once you total up the points in Row 3, you will get the Basic Strength points of
the planets for that particular event, which in this case is Marriage.
ROW 4: Write the name of the planets residing in the fourth place from the
planets in Row One. As you can see in the yellow shaded houses below, Jupiter
is 4 houses away from the SUN, SATURN and MERCURY. Whenever you have
a group of planets in one house and another planet (in this case, Jupiter) 4
houses away, select only the most malefic out of the group, meaning the one
with the lowest points. If there is a tie, such as the example below, use the
natural malefic (Saturn) and list Jupiter under Saturn only, leaving the other
planets out of the equation.

ROW 5: If the planet in Row 1 has LESS than 4 points, add the points from
Row 3 under the planets in Row 4.
Jupiter is in the fourth place from Saturn only, or you can say that Saturn, is in
the tenth house from Jupiter, either way. This is known as a fourth-tenth house
relationship. Again, according to the rule, If two planets have an equal
amount of points, then the natural malefic planet among them will get the
power from the planet in the fourth place, and as we can see, Saturn and the
Sun have an equal amount of the lowest points in the house. We now have to
choose which one will get the benefic points from Jupiter in the fourth house.
Since the Sun is friendlier to the lord of the sign, Saturn would be the one to
choose as the more natural malefic in this case. Because of this unique fourthtenth house relationship in which Jupiter has more than 4 bindus and Saturn has
less than 4, we will be able to ADD the total points so far, from Jupiter in Row 3,
which is 18, to the 9 points of Saturn, also in Row 3. We then put those 18 points
underneath the Saturn column in Row 5. We do not have to concern ourselves
38
with the fact that Mercury or the Sun has less than 4 points, because they were
disqualified when Saturn became the elected malefic to receive Jupiters points.
ROW 6: These are the simply the total points from Rows 3 and 5. Add them to
each box.
ROW 7: The name of the 3rd and 11th house lords from House A and the
planets in those houses with more than 4 points.
From our studies on the Upachaya Houses in Lesson 5, we know that the lord of
the 3rd and the 11th house, shaded in orange below, also plays a key role in the
event as well as any planets residing in those houses with more than 4 benefic
points. Since these houses only act through their lords and the planets located in
them, they are known as Secondary Upachaya houses and are more indirectly
involved than the Main Upachaya houses are in the outcome of the event.
(Remember to count the 3rd and the 11th house lords from the Upachaya Starting
point, which is House A. Upachaya houses are labeled in BLUE). As you can
see below, the lord of the 11th here is Venus. So we enter it as Ve in the Venus
column in Row 7. The lord of the 3rd house is Mercury, so we enter Me in its
proper column as well.

Saturn aspects or has 10th sight on House B, ten houses away from itself.
Mars aspects House A four houses away from it. Finally, Jupiter aspects House
B seven houses away. These are the only planets making aspects to the Main
Upachaya houses and we enter them as Sa, Ma and Ju, each under their own
proper columns.
ROW 11: Write the points of the planets in Row 10.
We can either go back to the Ashtakavarga chart and look at the natal positions
for Saturn, Mars and Jupiter (in RED) to see that Saturn has 3 points, Mars has 4
points and Jupiter has 5 or we simply see the points in the chart above for each
planet as well. Enter them into the worksheet under the proper columns as
indicated.
ROW 12: List the aspects by Benefic (+) or Malefic (-) points to Houses A,
B or C (see Lesson 3).
In Lesson 3, it is noted that a planet with more than 4 benefic points will aspect in
the same strength, but in a malefic manner. Similarly, any planet with LESS than
4 benefic points will aspect in a benefic manner, equal to 8 minus the points of
the planet. In other words, if any planet has only 2 benefic points, then its aspect
will be benefic by 8-2=6 points.
In this case, we can see that the Saturn has 3 bindu points in its house. This
means that it will cast 5 benefic points (8-3=+5) on the 10th house, House B.
Mars aspects from its own house with 4 points, since it has 4 points. Therefore, it
will cast +4 points on the 2nd house, House A as well. And finally, Jupiter who
40
has 5 points will cast 3 on the house it aspects. The points for each of these
planets will be reflected in Row 12 of the worksheet.
ROW 13: In this row, we will either add these benefic points or subtract the
malefic ones from the totals in Row 9.
ROW 14: Name any planets aspecting the planets in Row 1.

Here we can see that Mars is making an 8th house aspect to the Moon and
Jupiter is making a 9th house aspect to Venus. (We can also word it to say that
Mars has 8th sight on the Moon and Jupiter has 9th sight on Venus.)
Accordingly, we will enter Mars as Ma in the Mars column and Jupiter as Ju in
the proper column in Row 14.
ROW 15: Write the points of the planets in Row 14 as listed in their
Ashtakavarga. List the points that Mars and Jupiter have, either by looking in
the Ashtakavarga chart or by looking at the natal chart in the example. Enter the
points from each planet in its proper column.
ROW 16: List the aspects by Benefic (+) or Malefic (-) points from planet to
planet (see Lesson 3).
This is basically the same thing as in Row 12 except that Row 12 was concerned
with aspects to the Upachaya Houses only. In this row, were concerned with
Benefic (+) and Malefic (-) point aspects from planet to planet only. As you can
see from the chart below, the only planet that casts an aspect to another planet
here is Mars to the Moon. But since Mars has only 4 points it is considered
NEUTRAL and therefore has no effect on the Moon and cannot be included.
Jupiter aspects Venus, but as it has 5 benefic points, it will aspect in a malefic
41
manner with the same amount of points. Therefore 5 points will be deducted in
this row. (see chart below).

Any planets totaling 12 or more points (in green) will be considered beneficial for
a happy married life. Anything below 12 (in red) is disqualified. As to which planet
will bring Marriage, we must consider this rule: The planets that are aspecting the
Significator Houses will NOT come forward to give the results for an event. In this
case, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter are all aspecting the Significator Houses. Mars is
42
below 12 points and therefore are not considered. Jupiter, although strong with
13 points is in the lagna and aspects the 7th House of B. This leaves Saturn
which although is the most powerful, will not come forward because it aspects
House B. Such planets can be replaced however by Samdharmi planets. The
word SAMDHARMI means of the same nature. Mercury is Samdharmi to
Saturn in this chart and has 4 points where it resides in the same house as
Saturn.
From the strength chart, we can easily see that Mercury is the 2nd highest planet
on the list and doesnt have any obstructions, so it CAN bring about the marriage.
In fact, since it is Samdharmi to Saturn, the marriage SHOULD be performed in
the MERCURY sub period. The timing of the event should always be in the sub
period of one of the strong planets. The Mahadasa period lord has no effect here.
The period from Dec 17, 1989 thru Oct 17, 1992 is the time of her Mercury sub
period. This gives a very big window of time however in which to consider,
since the period is very long.
We then divide this time period into three sectors of equal proportions which
comes out to 345 days for each division and will run like this:
Dec 17, 1989 to Nov 27, 1990 (First Sector) No delay
Nov 27, 1990 to Nov 7, 1991 (Second Sector) Moderate Delay
Nov 7, 1992 to Oct 17, 1992
(Third Sector) Full Delay
For finding what sector it will fall into, we first have to find the status of the
marriage, as to whether it will be an EARLY MARRIAGE, a MODERATE DELAY,
or a FULL DELAY. (This will be dealt with more, in a later topic.)
In analyzing the planets, we have to consider the conditions of planets in the
Navamsha as well as the Rasi chart as they both have equal status.

As you can see in the Navamsha chart, Jupiter goes to Libra and Venus is
spoiled due to its distance from the Sun. Despite being Samdharmi to Saturn,
Jupiter is in the lagna of the Rasi chart and therefore aspecting the 7th house (B).
Therefore it will not be able to give marriage, but will cause a delay instead. So
due to the delays of Jupiter and Venus here, the marriage cant take place in the
first sector.
This is a case of MODERATE DELAY, where the marriage was performed in the
middle portion of the sub period of Mercury, falling in the sector of Nov 27, 1990
to Nov 7, 1991.
The native got married on the 3rd of February, 1991.

LESSON 8
Samdharmi Planets and their inter-relationships
Samdharmi planets are those planets that behave similar to each other or give the
results of the other planet. The following planets are said to be Samdharmi.
1. When two planets are in one sign, and in one constellation, they are said to be of
similar nature (Samdharmi). It means they can help each other in giving the result.
2. In the Tenth House Theory (see Figure 1), planet A in the fourth place is
Samdharmi to planet B in the tenth place from it. However, A must have more points
in its ashtakavarga then B. B being the karyesh (significator) and getting maximum
points, but in case planet B aspects the significating houses, planet A can then give
the results in its sub period, even if B gets more points.
Figure 1

3. If, in the above case, planet A had less points then B, then planet A would
behave in a reverse way and might give adverse results if it didnt receive more than
12 points in its final tally, as indicated in the worksheet.
4. In Figure 2, if planet A aspects or has sight on the significating house for an
event, then the transit of the Sun can be considered relevant as it travels thru the sign
and constellation of A (In this case, the transit of the Sun through ARIES and its
Nakshatra or constellation would play a very big part in the results for this particular
event.)

5. Rahu and Ketu are Samdharmi to the lord of the sign and the lord of the
constellation in which they are situated. Suppose Rahu is in 15 degrees of Cancer,
then it is in the sign of the Moon, and in the Nakshatra of Pushya, which is the section
that covers 3 deg. 20 min. 16 deg. 40 min. of the sign Cancer and is ruled by Saturn.
So it will be samdharmi to the Moon and Saturn. It can give benefic results in its sub
period but only when the Moon and Saturn are both receiving more than 12 points.
NOTE: Rahu and Ketu are also Samdharmi to the Navamsa lord and the planets they
conjoin in the Navamsa. However, Rahu and Ketu are not Samdharmi to planets that
they conjoin in the Rasi. This clarification only holds true for the Navamsa.
6. Venus and Saturn are natural 4th and 10th house lords, (being lords of the 7th and
10th signs and 11th and 2nd signs) so they are Samdharmi. In this case, if both
planets are strong, then either of them can give the results if the sub period comes
earlier. Similarly, Mars and Sun are Samdharmi. (Leo and Scorpio are 4:10) Moon and
Mars are Samdharmi. (Aries and Cancer are 4:10) See Figure 3.

Suppose Planet Q and R are samdharmi and powerful. Let Planet Q be the
powerful Significator for any event of the life, and Q is having its sight on one of the
signifying houses. In such a case, the result will be experienced in the sub period of
R. If Q is a most strong significator and R is also the 2nd or the 3rd significator, in
this case also, if the sub period of R is earlier, results may be experienced.

8. We do not include the sight of the planets on the 3rd and the 11th house from the
house A (as indicated in the worksheet). If any planet with less then 4 points receives
good marks and is the 2nd or 3rd significator, aspects the 3rd or the 11th houses, can
come forward to give the results if the sub period of the powerful planets are long
ahead.
Natural Karakas
Planets are have natural significations for certain houses. These are known as
karakas and are indicators of the natural characteristics exhibited by a planet, house
or sign. Generally it is said that Venus is the natural karaka for Marriage or for the wife.
Jupiter is for children. How it this arrived at?
In our previous lessons, we learned that the eighth house from any house is the basic
reason for the event indicated by the house. For example, if the 7th house signifies
the marriage, then the 2nd house (eighth from the 7th) is the house which is mostly
effected, so we start from the 2nd house. If we consider the natural chart of the
Zodiac, where Aries is the ascendant, the eighth house lord from any house is known
as the natural karaka of the house. (See Figure 5 for a few examples of this).
The 8th house from the 7th is Taurus and its lord is Venus, so Venus is known as a
karaka for marriage. If we count 8 from the 5th house, we arrive at the 12th house of
Pisces, ruled by Jupiter, so Jupiter is known as karaka for Children.

The 6th house stands for enmity and diseases and Mars, the eighth lord from it is a
karaka.
The 4th house is for Patal beneath the earth, so 11th lord Saturn is the karaka for
minerals.
The 3rd house denotes longevity and the eighth lord is Saturn, which is the karaka for
longevity.
The 2nd house The signifies knowledge (vidya) and Jupiter signifies it. Jupiter means
Guru (teacher)
The 1st house or individuality of a person depends upon Mars, the eighth lord, as a
karaka.
The 12th house, known as Moksha, bed comforts, goes to Venus for the karaka.
The 11th house stands for the income and Mercury is the karaka for it.
The 10th house stands for authority, and the eighth lord Sun is the karaka for it. (Some
schools say the 10th house is for the father, so the Sun is also a karaka for the father.
The 9th house is for the luck factor, and Moon is the karaka for it. We consider the
moon sign.
If the karaka planets are debilitated, the overall results will be affected in the following
ways:
Venus loses its natural power if it is within 3 degrees from the Sun. Similarly, it gives
adverse results if it is more then 43 degrees from Sun. If it aspects Saturn in the above
case, it behaves like an anti- karaka. Its karaka for marriage and bed comforts gets
spoiled.
Venus in the Nakshatra of Krittika, (0 10 degrees of Taurus) loses its karaka and
becomes neutral. The aspect from Saturn again spoils it. If along with Venus, Saturn
aspects one of the luminaries (Sun or Moon) , Venus loses all of its power as a karaka.
Saturn is a slow moving planet and its aspect on the signifying houses delays the
results. If Jupiter aspects Saturn, the delay is moderate. Both the Rasi and the
Navamsha charts should be analyzed for this.
Jupiter in Libra loses all of its benefic qualities and its karaka gives the opposite
effect.
49
th
If the12 lord from the house B is placed in house B, it spoils, or reduces the
results. If Saturn is the lord of this house, the effect is even worse and will be
experienced in the sub period of such a planet.
If the lord of 12th house from House B aspects the lords of House A, House B and
House C,. the worst results will be felt in the sub period of such planets as related to
house B.
Example: Let Cancer be the ascendant, so the sixth lord is Jupiter. In this case, if
Jupiter aspects the Sun (second lord) Saturn (7th lord) and Venus (11th lord), then in
the sub period of Jupiter, the husband or the wife of the native will expire or there will
be a separation of some sort (see Figure 6 below).

If Saturn is in the fourth house from House A (as indicated in Figure 7) it will have
sight on all the three significator houses. In such a case, the event is experienced late
in the life. Delays may be repeated about 1.5 to 1.75 times. In such cases, while in the
delay period, the event may not be experienced.

If the natural karakas become spoiled due to any reason, the results will also be
spoiled. In such cases, the event may be experienced in the sub period of the planet
that gets the least points or less then 12 points. Of course, the results come out just
the opposite when in the sub period of a strong significator.
If opposite house lords, such as Mars-Venus (see Figure 8), Jupiter-Mercury, SunSaturn, or Moon-Saturn are in a 2:12 (meaning 2nd/12th house relationship) or 6:8
relationship, then the results of House B, if ruled by one of the pair given above, gets
some deficiencies. . . 6:8 relationships are worse then 2:12 relationships.
Similarly, 4:10 relationships also denote opposition but with due respect. 3:11
relationships depend upon the difference in longitude of the two planets. If the
difference is less then 40 degrees, then the results are similar to a 2:12 relationship.

5. The planets receiving more then 12 points in the final tally, will give benefic results
in their sub periods.
6. Venus is the natural karaka planet for the 7th house, indicating marriage or a
relationship with the opposite sex. In the Nakshatra of Krittika, it becomes the most
afflicted and will spoil the results signified by the 7th house. In Ardra, Mula and
Jyeshta nakshatras, it also gets spoiled.
7. If Venus (as described in # 6), is aspecting Saturn, its adverse power increases.
8. If along with Venus (as described in # 7), one of the luminaries is also in the sight of
Saturn, then Venus will be spoiled even more.
9. Jupiter in Libra always gives adverse results.
10. When the planet X, is in fourth place from planet Y, and X is the lord of the 12th
house from the significator house B, then Y will not give favorable results. (See
Figure 9 to illustrate this example).

11. When two planets are in 4:10 combinations, and the planet in the fourth place
has less points than the planet in the tenth place, it will give the results according to its
nature or opposite to the nature of the planet in the tenth place.
12. The sixth lord of the chart gives adverse results for all the houses, except for the
ninth and first house.
13. Any planet in opposition to Venus weakens its original nature.
14. Venus in Krittika, Ardra or the Mula nakshatras, becomes malefic for marriage and
marital relations. It is especially malefic in Krittika.
15. If the above combination in #14 is aspected by Saturn, it will lose all its quality.
16., If Saturn, in the #13th or #14th, also aspects any one of the luminaries, (even in
the Navamsha chart, it will totally spoil the nature of Venus.
17. Venus within 3 degrees, or more then 43 degrees from the Sun, loses its nature,
and becomes malefic (particularly for marriage).
18. Planets having more points reduces the results of the houses that they aspect.
19. Only Saturn can have zero points in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 12th house if it
situated in those houses. (no other planet can have zero points in the place where it is
situated).
20. Mars can give zero points for 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 12th houses ONLY
when it is not in those houses.
21. No planet can give zero points in the 11th house. (see Lesson 1 and the
Ashtakavarga Tables)
22. Only Venus can give zero points in the 10th house, but in such cases, it is mostly
spoiled. The 10th house is for authority and Work (Karma) Venus is the basic Karaka
for the 7th and the 12th houses, which are mostly related to the opposite sex. If anybody
is involved only in those activities, they may not be able to do anything in the life and
will ignore his duties. So zero in 10th house due to Venus denotes that.
23. If there are zero points in any house by any planet, this definitely indicates some
deficiencies in the life of the native. Generally marriage is the main event in the life of
a native in the Indian culture. It gets spoiled due to zero points. The more zeroes, the
more instability is indicated for the marital life. This also indicates multiple unstable
marriages.
24. Any planet with more than 5 points in any house will give the results of the fourth
and the eighth houses from that house in its sub period.
54
25. Generally the good result of any house is experienced in the sub period of the sixth
or the tenth lords from that place.
26. If the Lord of any house situated in the 6th or the 10th from its own house with
more then 5 points, it will give much better results for its own house.
27. Planets that are aspecting the sixth and tenth houses from house B with benefic
site also give better results for the B house
PLEASE NOTE: Statements #19, #20, #21, and #22 are given especially because in
some books such types of imaginary results are given which are not accurate.

LESSON 9
Vimshottari Dasa and Manual Calculations
To find the timing event, we must know the period ruled by the significator planet.
There are so many types of dasha systems. But I found the Vimshottari dasha most
reliable. This system is based on the longitude of the Moon. The total dasa period is
120 years. The ancient sages found out the life of human beings to be 120 years. Now
it is supported by scientists in the present day. They have tested a particular part of
the body, and ascertained that it can work for 120 years. Now they are also in
agreement that the maximum life of a person can be up to 120 years old.
The total period of 120 years has been allotted to 9 grahas, I will use word Graha
which is different than the word planet. Planets and Stars are the words used for
heavenly bodies. Rahu and Ketu are grahas, but they are not planets. Graha means
sources of energy, attraction, so it may be a distincton.
There are inner grahas and outer grahas. Inner grahas means grahas between the
Earth and the Sun, which includes the Sun, Mercury, Venus and the Moon. Ketu is
also included in the inner grahas. Mars, Jupiter Saturn are outer grahas, and Rahu is
treated as an outer graha as well. 120 years are divided in two equal parts of 60 years
each and allotted to inner and outer grahas.
Starting from Revati, which is ruled by Mercury, then Ketu, Venus, Sun, and Moon,
allotting 17 years, 7yrs, 20 yrs, 6 yrs, and 10 years respectively for a total of 60 years .
Then Outer Grahas, Mars 7 years, Rahu 18 years, Jupiter 16 years, Saturn 19 years
for a total of another 60 years. (See Figure 1)

Leave out the last digit, which is 4, so that the remainder is 32. These are the
number of months, which then converts to 2 years and 8 months.
Now multiply the last digit of the number 324 by 3. It gives the days. Therefore, the
subperiod of Rahu in the Rahu Mahadasa = 2 years 8 months, 12 days.
Mars sub in Mars main = 7X7 = 49 = four months and 27 days.
49 10 = 4.9 which equals 4 months and 27 (9 X 3) days.
Sun sub in Moon main = 6 X 10 = 60 = six months and 0 days.
From the above equation one can find the sub period of any planet.
Now suppose the main period of Venus starts from the 1st of Jan.,1980. It lasts for 20
years. Now we have to find the sub period of Mars in Venus main.
Add the total years of Venus + Sun + Moon up to Mars = 20 + 6+ 10 = 36 .
Now we have to find the start of the Mars sub period. So we multiply 36 by 20 (the
main period of Venus) 36 X 20 = 720 leaving out the last digit which gives us 72
(months) = 6 years. The last digit of 720 stands for days which gives us zero days.
This means that the Mars sub period will start 6 years after 1st Jan 1980 which is the
1st Jan 1986. And the Mars period will be 7 X 20 = 140 = one year 2 months.
Similarly we can find the sub period of any planet in the main or Mahadasa period of
any planet.
The Vimshottari Mahadasa is based upon the constellation of the Moon, in which it is
situated and uses the angular distance of each Nakshatra, which is 13 deg. 20 min.

If we want to find the Main constellation period from the Moons longitude, first convert
it to degrees, divide it by 120, then multiply the decimal portion by 9.
EXAMPLE:
Suppose the Moon is in Scorpio 18 degrees and 17 seconds. If we look at the table in
Figure 2, well see a conversion table that charts all planetary positions from the 0
Aries point instead of 0 from each individual sign. It will easily allow us to find out
what degree of the 360 zodiac Scorpio falls on. Scan down to Scorpio in the table. It
says 210. Add the 18 degrees more from the Scorpio Moon position to 210.
Moon in Scorpio - 18 degrees 17 seconds
+ 210 degrees (from Conversion table next to Scorpio)
= 228 degrees
In order to calculate the 17 seconds into degrees, divide as follows:
17 60 = 0.2833333
Together we have 228.2833333
Divide 228.2833333 by 120 to get 1.90236.

Again the 10th constellation will be of Ketu, And 11 that of Venus and so on. If we
remember the lords of the 1st to the 9th constellations, then they can easily be applied
further. A good tip is to total the constellation number and find the ruler for the number
of the total. For example, find the ruler of the constellation # 23. Now total 2+3 = 5.
The ruler of five is Mars, and so is the number 23 mars. (Also see Figure 4)
The period passed can be calculated by multiplying the decimal portion by the main
period of Mercury.
0.12125 X 17 = 2.06125 years = 2 years , 0 months and 22 days have passed and 14
years 11 months and 8 days are remaining.
The Dasha system is based on the Hindu Calendar which has approximately 360 days
(average). In actuality, the Hindu calendar is based on the Moon and the English
calendar is based on the Sun, which contains 365 days with one day added for every
leap year. In the Hindu calendar some months are added or subtracted. This is known
as Adhik mas (additional month) and kshaya mas (deleted month) and matches the
Suns transit. It may be difficult to calculate the dasha system actually as per the
Hindu calendar. It is much easier to follow the English Calendar for this. The maximum
difference may be 18 days, if we follow the English calendar.

LESSON 10
Marriage
According to Hinduism and the Catholic faith, marriage is taken as an indissoluble and
sacred institution. In some Western countries, it is a contract and can be dissolved at
any time. In astrology, the marriage is governed by the planetary disposition at the
time of birth. The astrologer can thus read the indications and the tendencies of a
happy marriage or otherwise.
In Hindu mythology, the marriage can be broken down into groups as follows:
1. Devas (Gods) This is marriage that is settled in heaven by the Gods and is ruled
by Jupiter.
2. Manushya (Humans) This means that the marriage is settled in the community
by the elder persons of the family and is controlled by a strong and benefic Venus.
3. Rakshasas (Demons) This is marriage performed against the will of the female
by force and is the result of an afflicted Venus by Saturn and Mars.
4. Gandharva Vivaha This last one can be an intercast, inter-religion or international
type of marriage indicator along with the 3rd group and states that the marriage is
settled between a male and female of their own free will. It is ruled by Venus and
Mars, where Venus is afflicted by Mars, either by sight or association.
We have already seen in last lesson that the karaka for marriage is Venus. It also
governs the women, wife, sexual happiness, beauty, love making, poetry, dancing,
music, singing, flowers, scents, decoration, art, etc.
The marriage is mainly based on mutual attraction, physical fitness, mental quality,
heredity, sexual compatibility, and social and economical status. The lagna or the
ascendant governs the physical fitness, the Moon rules the emotional mind and the
mental quality, and the Sun governs the spirit and the status. Hence the observation of
these three is very necessary, the lagna, the Sun and the Moon. The relationship
between the lord of the lagna and the lords of the house in which the Moon and the
Sun are situated, as well as the lord of the seventh house from them, is a very
important factor. If they are in a 5:9 or 3:11 combination it is good. If they are 4:10
combination, it is said to be moderate. A 2:12 combination can be tolerable, but 6:8 is
always gives disputes.

In Figure 2, lets suppose that the lagna lord (Mars) and the lord of 7th house (Venus)
are in a 5:9 combination. That would be equal to 30 points. Similarly, the lord of the
Moon sign (Mercury) and the lord of the seventh from the Moon (Jupiter) are in a 4:10
combination. This will be equal to 10 points. And finally, the lord of the sun sign
(Saturn) and the seventh lord are in a 3:11 combination. This is equal to 20 points. We
now have a total of 30 + 10 + 20 = 60 points. Below 50 is an indicator that there may
be many disputes and difference of opinions in this marriage. Above 50 points
indicates a good, happy and cooperative married life.

SATURN
Before finding the results of the marriage, we must find the points acquired by the
above calculations in this manner. Anything totaling zero to 20 points is a reason for a
delayed marriage.
66
The position of Venus and its lordship is also very important. It becomes spoiled
(weak) in Krittika, Ardra, and the Mula nakshatras. It becomes moderately spoiled in
Jyeshta. If it does not have benefic sight of Jupiter, it may give multiple relations/
marriages. Venus gets even more spoiled if it becomes associated or aspected by
Saturn. Saturn is the planet that brings delay in both cases, whether it be by means of
benefic or malefic sight or association. Whether we consider it benefic for a good
reason or malefic for a bad reason, a delay will still be there in any case.
Saturn enhances the negative qualities of Venus and if it is aspected by Jupiter, it
controls and modifies the result somewhat better.
The distance of Venus from the Sun is also a main factor here. Up to 3 degrees from
the Sun, it loses all of its qualities. Such a Venus reduces the sex urge of the native.
Up to 43 degrees from the Sun it behaves in a normal way and after 43 degrees, its
qualities are enhanced as it increases the sexual feelings of the person. Mars in
association with Venus causes the native to have no control over his or her sexual
feelings. Saturn, if associated in this case may be a factor as well, in homosexuality.
This is one of the reasons for a delay in the marriage. The more afflicted Venus
becomes, the more of a delay and/or more of a chance for extramarital relations. At
the extreme end, it denies marriage altogether, but gives more relationships.
The Moon is the controller of the ninth house and of the mind. Its affliction by Rahu
also spoils the control over the mind as well as the marriage life.
Therefore, before finding the result for marriage and before coming to any conclusions,
we must study the above factors very keenly.
67
2. The combinations of the lord of the lagna, Moon sign and the Sun sign plus the
lord of the 7th house from them must total more than 50 points for a normal and well
adjusted married life. (as shown above in fig 1).
3. As indicated in the worksheet, all the planets must give more than 12 points and if
the conditions from numbers 1, 2, and 3 are fulfilled, then the marriage will be happy.
4. To have none of the planets aspecting the A, B and C houses would be the ideal
condition. If aspecting other planets, then they should have less than 4 points.
5. In the case of number 4, the number of planets aspecting the 2nd house or its lord,
even if it has less than 4 points, may give that number of extra marital relations.
6. There should be no aspect of the sixth lord (the 12th from the 7th house) on the 7th
house at the very least.
7. If any planet gets more points due to the aspect of the sixth lord, then the strength
of the planet for a happy marriage should be considered, thereby deleting the points.
8. There should be no points accumulated by the sixth lord to any planet by aspect.
9. When the sixth lord is in the 4th or the 12th house (meaning the 10th and the 6th
from the 7th house) it can reduce the marital happiness.
10. Taurus, Cancer, Leo, Libra and Pisces are the signs of love. A minimum of 28
points in these signs in the sarvashtakavarga brings more success to the marital life.
11. More then 4 points in the above signs by the Sun, the Moon and Venus, makes the
person more romantic in his/her love life.
12. Only the sun in Pisces with more then 4 points makes the standards of the person
somewhat lower and consequently love is restricted to physical contacts only.
13. More points in the 10th or 1st house, or the 8th or 6th house, although it increases
the status of the person will also reduce the happiness in the married life.
14. Mars and Venus should be well posited in the chart and without the aspect of
Saturn (this should also be seen in the navamsha chart).
15. The navamsha lord of the 11th house as well as the planets in the 11th house, and
their positions in the chart are also indicators to look for when searching for the quality
of the love life. (The 11th lord means the lord of the 10th house from the 2nd or the
lord of the 5th house from the 7th).
68
For each and every aspect of the life there is basically one significator planet that
represents it. If it is said to be spoiled, the event may happen in the life but the
overall quality of the good result becomes weaker, and proportionately, so does the
overall happiness. Actually the overall results and the date of the event are two
different things altogether.
These are the main factors and the general laws that contribute to a happy married
life. We have a total of 15 general laws. If we give 10 points for each law that proves to
be true out of those 15 and come up with a total of 60 points or more, we can say that
the married life will be a satisfactory one. The more points we come up with out of a
total of 150 points, the happier the marriage will be.
64
LESSON 11
Transits
The effects of transits are also important considerations and should be figured for
finding daily results. The sub-dasa is a long period and for finding the date of the event
we have to consider the transit of the Sun.
To find out a daily routine however, the transit of all the planets have to be taken into
consideration.
The Sarvastakavarga points of each house are used for this procedure. The points of
each house in the Sarva chart are taken for each planet that transits that particular
house and added together for each day. The average points for a day are 196. More
than this means that the person will have a good day. Less than 196 points, means
that there will be some worry. From this, we can easily find day to day results and
calculate them for weeks, months or years in advance.
Example:
Lets say a person has the following Sarva points as shown in the chart below (Figure
1), for an AQUARIUS Ascendant.

Now suppose we have to find the total points of the day in question. Lets start with
January 23rd, 2001.
The transiting planets for this day are shown in the Sarva chart below in RED (Figure
2), as they pass thru these particular signs. We can easily see that The Sun is in
Capricorn and will take 27 points, the Moon is in Sagittarius with 31 points, Mars is in
Libra with 19 points, Mercury is also in Capricorn with 27 points, Jupiter is in Taurus
with 35 points, Venus is in Aquarius with 31 points, and Saturn is also in Taurus with
35 points. If we total all these points, we come up with 205 points for the day.
Similarly, on the 24th of January, only the Moon will change signs into Capricorn, so
the total points are 201.

These numbers will show the high points and low points of a persons daily feelings
and moods. From the above calculations, it seems that this person will enjoy the life up
to the middle of August 2001. Then, in November, as the points drop down, it indicates
a time of more stress and worry.

LESSON 12
How to Look for Signs of Divorce in a Chart
Signs of divorce can be found among the following hints in these cases:
1) The ascendant lord and the 7th lord are in a 2:12 or a 6:8 relationship.
2) Venus is in the Nakshatra of Krittika, Ardra or Mula. (Jyeshtas last degrees and
Mulas first degrees are also referred to as Mula.)
3) The difference in the Sun and Venus is more than 43 degrees and is either one
of the luminaries in the aspect of Saturn.
4) Jupiter is in the ascendant with more points.
5) The sight of Jupiter has more points on the 2nd and the 7th lord.
6) There is more of a chance of divorce if Jupiter is the 6th lord in #5. (above)
7) Jupiter has less points and is situated in the 7th house.
8) The 7th lord is in the 6th house and is aspected by Saturn and/or Mars, which is
having more points.
9) The sixth lord is with its significator, or the sixth lord is in the 4th house.
10) If the Karyesh (significator) is in the 4th place from the sixth lord.
Generally, when more than one marriage is indicated, the first marriage is performed
in the sub of the sixth lord.
When the marriage life of any person is indicated as unhappy, the marriage is usually
performed in the sub period of the significator planet and having less points or it may
be in the sub period of the lord of the 12th from House B.

LESSON 13
The Effects of Venus and Points in All Twelve Signs
As we have learned so far, the many combinations of planets in any sign plus the
points acquired by each planet can have a big effect on the results that follow. The
following examples will show Venus in all twelve signs and give a good guideline as to
what to expect when interpreting this planet in the natal chart.
1. Venus in ARIES: If Venus has 8 points in this sign, it is an indicator for extra
marital relations as well as prostitution. The native (Jatak) can lose his/her
money, his/her position in life and further destroy his/her chances of succeeding
any further in life. If there are 7 points here, the effect is reduced and 6 points
nullifies this effect altogether. The yoge (event) can be possible only in the 1st,
2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th, and 11th houses. In any other house, Venus cannot
get 8 points.
2. Venus in TAURUS: If more than 6 points are in this sign with Venus, it is an
indicator of more than one marriage, whether it be legal or illegal.
3. Venus in GEMINI: If Venus has more than 5 points here in this sign, it is an
indicator of more sex appeal.
4. Venus in CANCER: If there are more than 6 points here, there are two
marriages indicated and the pleasures of too much wine and women may be
the cause of some illness.
5. Venus in LEO: If there are more than 5 points here, the person will enjoy the
company of the opposite sex and try to make them happy.
6. Venus in VIRGO: With more than 6 points here, the person likes to talk with the
opposite sex and will have more contacts with people doing lower grade work.
7. Venus in LIBRA: More points here indicates happiness and the ability to
achieve the things one wants to do in life.
8. Venus in SCORPIO: If there are more than 6 points here, the person will have
relations with other married members of the opposite sex and due to foolish
indiscretions, will suffer losses in the life.
70
9. Venus in SAGITTARIUS: The more points here, the more happiness. It is also
an indicator of a good character.
10. Venus in CAPRICORN: If there are more than 6 points in this sign, there will
be contact with women/men of low mentality who will take emotional hold of
him/her.
11. Venus in AQUARIUS: Venus here with more than 6 points indicates relations
with married people of the opposite sex.
12. Venus in PISCES: A lot of points in this sign is an indicator of a person who
doesnt fall in love so much as enjoying the physical act of sex itself.
Other effects due to Venus in different houses:
1. If the sign of Leo is in the 7th house and Venus has more than 5 points in the 7th
house, the person is very trustful with his spouse.
2. If Venus gives more points in the 5th house, there is more of a chance for a
female child, taking into consideration the other planets also.
3. In the place where the 7th lord is situated, if Venus is there and gives more than
5 points, the person has much interest in the sexual act. If Mars or Saturn also
gives more points in the same place, the spouse of the person is hard hearted
and perhaps a bit mentally unbalanced.
4. If Venus, along with Mercury, is in the fifth house with more points, the person
can be much too talkative which sometimes ends in quarrels due to this habit.
5. If Mercury in the above case is the lord of the 3rd house, the person talks
meaningless nonsense.
6. If Jupiter is in the 7th house with more points, the life partner is very beautiful or
handsome and has a very good character. If with 8 points, the partner is very
lucky.
7. If Venus is in the 7th house with Mars/Saturn and has more points, the life
partner is a lot more hot tempered.
8. If Saturn gives more than 5 points for the place where Venus is situated, the
person is very truthful, has good self-confidence and rises due to his/her own
efforts.
9. If the above yoge (#8) is in the 7th house, the person gets a very cooperative
spouse, who is hard working and thrifty.
10. If the above yoge (#9) is in a female chart, then the partners do not have
confidence in each other.
71
LESSON 14
Love Marriages
A Love Marriage may be viewed as a mutual agreement or contract between a
male and a female. The fifth house and the lord of the tenth and second houses
have an important role over the lovemaking. Therefore, their influence will be felt in
a marriage resulting out of love and affection. When Venus is aspected by Saturn or
Rahu, or if Venus is situated with them, the person has opportunities to be
acquainted with females as a result of sexual attraction. When the lords of the 4th
and the 12th houses become linked with the lords of 2nd and the 10th houses,
either by association or by sight, there definitely becomes a chance for a love affair
with the opposite sex.
Fig 1

6
Sun
Mercury
In Figure 1, Venus is the lord of the fourth house and is aspected by 10th lord
Mars. The 12th lord is also in association with the 2nd lord Sun.
Any chart having similar combinations definitely has the ingredients for a love
affair. If in such a case Venus is aspected by Saturn, there will be more then one
affair.
If Mars were to have sight or association with Saturn, the end of such an affair will
be a heartbreaking experience for the native.
72
The association of Mars and Venus increases the tendency for having love affairs,
as the attraction towards the opposite sex increases. If such a combination
aspects or has sight of Saturn, then the attraction increases even more.
A strong significator, as calculated from the work sheet, gives extra marital
relations if it aspects Saturn.
One must note that the Rashi and the Navamsha chart have equal importance, so
both charts must be consulted.
The tenth and the second lords, if they get more points in the work sheet for
marriage, also gives extra marital relations in their sub periods.
If the sixth lord makes aspects or associations in the above combinations, the
affair is restricted and does not lead to marriage.
When Saturn or Mars is in the 2nd, 7th or 12th house (it can be in any one place,
actually, but especially in these houses) and has a total of zero points, this also
indicates the discontinuation of such relationships. Mars with zero points in the
fourth house gives similar results as well as Rahu, which has 2nd, 5th, 7th and 9th
sight. So, if Rahu is situated in either the 1st, 5th, 7th, 9th or 12th houses from
Venus, it gives similar results.
The above rules are universal. There are also many other combinations, but they
have many ifs and but's.
_______________________________________________________________
73
3. The Saturn and/or Rahu of one chart should be found in association with the
Venus of the other chart by house or by sign.
4. The sight of Saturn and/or Rahu should be on the Venus of other chart (this
should be checked by house and sign)
5. If the Sun and the Moon of two charts exchange houses or signs, a close friend
ship is indicated.
6. If Venus and Mars are in the same Navamsha, or the Navamsha lord is the
same, this also indicates a close friendship.
74
LESSON 15
Procedure for Finding Any Event for the Date Given
There are many times when charts come to us as a Blind Analysis, where we have to
try and figure out what happened on such and such an event date. The following set of
procedures should be learned and followed and with a little practice, one can perfect
their analytical skills to a remarkable degree using Krushnas Ayanamsha.
1. Cast the chart for the person using his date of birth, place of birth and time.
Dont forget to apply Krushnas Ayanamsha ONLY. This is the most important
rule, because the results will be more accurate. I recommend this ayanamsha
for any system for better results.
2. Find the Vimshottari Mahadasha and the Sub Dasha.
3. Find the Main period Lord and the sub period lord on the date of the event.
4. Find out which houses have lordship of the main period lord (the Mahadasa
lord). Also find its Samdharmi. The result is generally linked with the karaka (the
significator) of the main period lord or its samdharmi. It can also represent the
house where it is situated.
5. Find the house(s) that the sub period lord rules and the house where it is
situated. The sub period lord generally gives the results of the 4th or the 8th
house from the its own house position or the 4th or 8th house from its situation. If
any planet aspects houses A,B or C, then its samdharmi will give the result of
the event.
6. Look at all the houses for which the sub lord can possibly give the result as well
as the karaka (significator) related to the main lord by using House B as a sort
of dial in which you move it around the chart and interpret the subsequent
Upachaya patterns (Houses A, B, C, D and E) from different viewpoints.
As an example, we will take the case given as Exercise 5 (also known as ABA 1,
referred to by Mr. Ron Gaunt). This is a chart of a female. Her birth data is as follows:

The main dasa period running on June 27, 2000 was that of RAHU. Its sub period was
the MOON. As you can see in the above chart, Rahu in the Rasi Chart is situated in
the 9th house which is House A for the longevity of the husband. The Moon is situated
in House D with 6 points and becomes eager to give the results for this event.
Since the Moon is the sub period lord it can give the result if we focus House B on
the 8th, the 12th, the 2nd and the 6th houses and look at the various relationships of the
Upachaya houses to each other. Remembering that the 8th house lord from any house
is known as the Natural Karaka of that house, we can see that for the 8th house,
(Libra), the karaka goes to Venus; for the 12th house (Aquarius), the Karaka is
Mercury; for the 2nd house, Aries, the Karaka goes to Mars or Rahu; and for the 6th
house of Leo, the Karaka is Jupiter. The Main period Lord of Rahu represents Mars
here so only the 2nd house is being taken into consideration.
The Moon and Mars are natural Samdharmi, meaning that their house rulers are
naturally 4 houses away from each other. (look above at the 2nd and the 5th houses).
They can give results for each other, but since the sub period is the Moon, it will take
first preference over Mars for that result.
76
The 2nd house represents the family, the death of the husband, etc.. Now,
considering family matters, the Moon is a weak significator for these things, including
the longevity of the husband.
On the day of the event, the Sun was transiting the sign of Gemini, which is ruled by
Mercury and in the constellation of Rahu, which is situated in the 9th house of the
husbands longevity, bringing the focus to this particular area of the life, as Rahu is the
Main Mahadasa lord.
If we re-focus house B on the 8th house, we will notice that the Moon rules House D
and will be eager to give results for this area of the life which focuses on longevity.
If we re-focus House B on the 12th house, we will notice that the Moon (the sub period
lord) rules House E, who is also eager to give results for this area of the life, dealing
with losses.
We can take this to mean that in the Moon sub period as the lord of the 5th in the Rasi
chart, results can be linked to the 8th and the 12th houses of loss and sorrow.
Studying other factors, the Natural Karaka of marriage is Venus and it is in Krittika,
which spoils the marital happiness. Its position in the 2nd house is also bad.
Mercury is more powerful for marriage as it receives points from Saturn from the 4th
house, but in spite of that, it has nothing to do with this current period.
So it can be assumed that in the Moon sub period, it will be bad for the longevity of the
husband and we can surmise that she will either separate from her husband during
this time period or he will pass away. As it happened, the husband passed away on
this date, very suddenly and unexpectedly due to a brain hemorrhage.
Similar analysis procedures can be followed using any blind chart.
77
LESSON 16
Procedure for Placing the Event in the Length of the Bhutki
Up until now, we have understood that any event will occur either under the influence
of the powerful significators in the chart, or in the sub period of the lords of either
House D or House E.
The main period is that of the karaka planet or its Samdharmi. The sub period of the
planets however are of various and different lengths. It is very important to narrow this
time period down in order to zoom in on the happening of the event itself.
There are several rules for doing this as follows:
1) Look to see if all of the lords of A, B and/or C houses are aspected by Saturn,
or
2) if these lords are placed with Saturn, or
3) if Saturn itself is one of the lords and others too are in its aspect
This must be seen from the Rashi chart and/or the Navamsha chart as both of
them have equal status.
If rules 1 thru 3 are in effect, then the event will be late or delayed. This means we
have to divide the entire time length of the sub period into three equal parts. The
event will take place in the third part of this sub period.
4) If such is the case that the lords are aspected by Jupiter also, or Saturn is in the
aspect of Jupiter, then the event will take place in the 2nd part of the sub period.
5) If ONLY Jupiter alone is aspecting these lords, the events will take place in the
first part of the sub period. This means that Saturn, the delay causing planet, is
not aspecting, or the significating planet is not having any relation with Saturn
(not in the Navamsha of Saturn or sign or constellation ruled by Saturn).
6) The lord of the sign and the constellation of the sub period lord, (Significator)
are also responsible for either an early event or a delay in the timing. Slow
moving planets will delay the event, while the faster moving planets will give the
result early. (This should be applied for the length of the time of the sub period
only)
7) The Moon is the fastest moving planet and Saturn is the slowest. The order of
speed for the planets from fastest to slowest are: Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus,
Mars, Jupiter, Rahu/ Ketu and Saturn. Moon, Sun and Mercury will give the
results in the first third of the equally divided dasha period. Venus and Mars will
give the results in the 2nd part, and Rahu, Ketu and Saturn will give the results
78
in the 3rd part. Jupiter is the exception here in that it will give the result in the
earlier part of the sub period.
8) The Navamsha Lord of the significator lord should also be considered.
9) If, for example, one lord is fast moving and other is slow moving, then the
timing should be made accordingly and the average value should then be
taken.
Lets take the Venus sub period within a Venus Main period for an example. The
Venus Main period lasts 40 months. If we take 1/3 of 40, it will equal approximately
13 months for each 1/3 of a time span. In this way, we can narrow down our
possibilities and fine tune the prediction for the event. We should check to make
sure that:
1) Venus does not aspect or have any connections with either Saturn or Jupiter.
2) Since the last four signs of the zodiac are ruled by either Jupiter or Saturn, this
means that Venus shouldnt be in any of these signs or this will delay the event
to a later sub period in the dasa.
3) It shouldnt be in any of the constellations ruled by either Saturn or Jupiter.
4) So if Venus is the significator and it is in the sign and constellation of the Sun,
Moon or Mercury, for example, then we can narrow down the results to the first
part of the sub period that we have divided into three equal parts.
5) Specific constellations are bad for Venus, (particularly for marriage). They are
Krittika, Ardra, Jyeshta and Mula. They spoil the nature of Venus and bring
unfavorable results.
Another example would be that of the Sun. The maximum amount of time length for
that of the Suns Main period (Sun subperiod) lasts 3 months and 18 days. (as
seen in RED below). By dividing it up into 3 parts, we will have 3 time spans of 1
month, 6 days each. The event happens when the Sun transits in the other
powerful significators sign or constellation. (This can also be reviewed in Lesson
9. which covers manual calculations of the time periods as well).

LESSON 17
Blind Chart Analysis ABA-6
EXERCISE OVERVIEW:
These are charts of two separate females, no relation between them. One of them passed
away on one of the following dates. The other ones husband passed away on the
remaining date. The idea is to place the proper date with the proper event and chart. This
means that the chart whose husband passed away must have had less of a happy marriage
life than the other one. If we study both the charts, we can find out which one this is.
The following procedure should be adopted:
STEP 1: Cast the charts using Krushnas Ayanamshas.
STEP 2: Find the Main Period Lords and the Sub lord periods for each chart. (which in
this case is the same as Step 3)
STEP 3: Find the Main Period Lords and the Sub lord periods for the date of the events.
STEP 4: Go to the house of the Main Period Lord (Mahadasa) and find its Samdharmi.
The result is generally linked with the Karaka of the main period lord or its Samdharmi.
It can be in the house where it is placed.
STEP 5: Find the house(s) that the sub period lord rules and the house where it is placed.
The sub period lord generally gives the results of the 4th or 8th house position from it or
the 4th or 8th house from its placement. If any planet aspects houses A,B or C, then its
Samdharmi will give the result of the event.
STEP 6: Look at all the houses for which the sub lord can possibly give the result as well
as the Karaka related to the main lord by using House B as a sort of dial and rotate it
around the chart to interpret the different Upachaya patterns that result. (You can
download Krushnas Upachaya Program in the FILES section for easily reading and
interpreting these different Upachaya patterns in any of the twelve signs at a glance!)

- Venus for Chart 1 is the lord of the 3rd and the 8th house and resides in the 9th house.
- The sub lord Moon is the lord of 5th house and situated in the 9th house.
- Similarly the sub lord, Mars, is lord of 2nd house and 9th house.
- The main lord or its samdharmi represents the karkatva (significators) of the houses. In
this case the main lord Venus indicates karkatva for the 8th house (B) and 1st house due
to its lordship and also the 2nd house due to its placement in the 9th house.
- The 8th house indicates death, 1st house indicates individuality, and 2nd house can
indicate the longevity of husband.
Therefore we can say that both the events can be indicated in the Mahadasha of Venus.
Venus is in the Jyeshta constellation, and is with Saturn and the Moon, which may
indicate less marital happiness. Now if we look at the Sub lords for the 2nd house in
order to check for the death of the husband as an option, both Mars and the Moon have
2 and 14 points, respectively, (see Figure 4, line 2, highlighted in blue), while Mercury
and Saturn have double the total points. (Mercury and Saturn rule Houses D and E when
the B House is re-focused on the 2nd) Furthermore, both Mars and Moon do not play the
role of lord of House D and E in the 2nd house focus, so the death of husband can not be
expected in this period.
Now if we change the House B focus to the 8th house, the Moon is the lord of house D
and Mars is placed in house E . For the result of the 8th house, the Moon is the
significator having a total of 20, the highest point value for that line. (see Figure 4,
84
highlighted in pink line). This situation can give the results of the 8th house in the Moon
sub period on 15th April 91. Mars doesnt have more points, so if it concerns the death of
the native, it can be possible in the subperiod of the Moon.

On the dates given, the main period is of that of Ketu with sub periods of Venus and the
Sun. Ketu is situated in the 9th house, so can have karkatva of the 2nd house. It also
represents Jupiter and Mercury, because Ketu is in the Nakshatra of Purnavasu, which is
ruled by Jupiter and Mercury rules the 9th. Jupiter is the lord of the 3rd house so it is the
karkatva of the 8th and as a lord of the 6th house it is karaka for the 11th. It is situated in
the 9th house, so again it can have karakatva of the 2nd house. The sub lord Venus, is the
lord of house E , (which is Taurus when you rotate the B House for the 8th house focus),
and the other optional sub lord, the Sun, is the lord of house D when we rotate the B
House to 2nd house matters. By their placements, Venus and Sun both are in house E for
the result of 2nd house. (Figure 3)
In considering the total points for the 8th house, the Moon has more points, (see Figure 5,
8th house row) while for the 2nd house results, Mars has the maximum amount of points.
(see Figure 5, pink row, highlighted in blue). Mars is natural samdharmi to the Sun. So
being the lord of house D for 2nd house matters and being samdharmi to Mars, it can give
the result.
For this chart, Venus is in the Krittika constellation and aspected by Saturn while Saturn
also aspects the Sun. This spoils Venus, particularly for marriage. Jupiter in the navamsha
chart is in Libra, which also reduces the longevity of the marriage. Zero points by Saturn
for the house having karkatva for the husbands longevity also indicates the same thing.
85
Now since we have justified one date for the death of the native of chart 1, we are left
with only one other date, the 17th of July, 1992, which means the Sun sub period in the
Ketu Main. The Karaka of the 2nd house is situated in the 12th house from 7th.
My conclusion is in red in the table above. The native died herself on April 15, 1991
in a Venus-Moon dasa and the other female lost her husband on July 17, 1992 in a
Ketu- Sun dasa.
In the following charts from the worksheet (ver 4.09), you can see that the numbers at the
left hand side indicate HouseB placements from 1 to 12 indicating the houses in the
chart. The numbers to the right are the final point totals of the significators for each house
chart row. Red numbers indicate lower than 12 in point totals which brings in negative
results. If the point totals are 12 or over, they can bring in beneficial results. The lines
showing each event is noted in pink highight.

91
(Figure 2)
92
The lord of the 6th house in this chart is Jupiter, which has 6 bindus and goes to the 8th
house. From the 8th, Jupiter now aspects the 12th, the 2nd, and the 4th houses and because
it has 6 points, it means that the results promised by the 12th, 2nd and 4th houses are
definitely reduced. A malefic result regarding such houses will be experienced instead in
the sub period of Jupiter.
Now, lets take each of these three houses separately and refocus House B on them:
a) If we place the B House on the 12th, then the 7th becomes House A, whose lord
is Saturn. Similarly, the lord of D is Jupiter (9th house) and the Lord of E is Mars.
Saturn aspects Jupiter and is also placed in Jupiters house in the navamsha. Mars
is only in the sight of Jupiter in the natal chart, but in the navamsha it is placed in
the same house as Jupiter. Therefore the result indicated by the 12th house is
spoiled.
b) If we place the B House on the 2nd, we will see that this house too has sight of
Jupiter. The D House goes to the 11th, ruled by Venus, who is also aspected by
Jupiter. The E House goes to the 7th, ruled by Saturn and it too is being aspected
by Jupiter. Again, looking at the navamsha, we can see that both the lords D and
E are placed in houses that are ruled by Jupiter. All of the three conditions are
fulfilled, so the native does not get the promised results of the 2nd house.
c) If we place the B House on the 4th, we can see that the 6th house lord, Jupiter, is
aspecting the 4th house. The lord of the 11th house now becomes A and is ruled by
Venus, which is being aspected by Jupiter and also placed in the navamsha house
ruled by Jupiter. The lord of the D House (1st) is the Moon, which is in the sight
of Jupiter. In the 1st house, there are zero points going to the Moon.(See Figure 2)
The lord of house E is ruled by Jupiter itself.
Therefore the native cannot enjoy the results indicated by any of these three houses, the
12th, the 2nd or the 4th. One thing should be remembered here. When the focus of the B
House is brought to the 12th, Jupiter becomes lord of House D. When the focus of
the B House is brought to the 4th, Jupiter becomes lord of the E House. In general,
we would not have considered its sight as malefic. But in this case where it is the
lord of the 6th house, it takes on a special significance!
Jupiter being the lord of the 6th house became very malefic in this case and its malefic
sight, due to the fact that it had more than 4 points, gave very bad results.
SOLUTION TO QUESTION:
The native in this chart cannot talk, not as a result of deafness, but due to a defect in the
vocal chords since birth. If Jupiter only had its sight on the 2nd house, then the result
would have been experienced in the Jupiter sub period. But in this case, the karaka (Lord
of House A), is also Jupiter and the lords of D and E are samdharmi to Jupiter as well, so
the defect is by birth.
93
LESSON 20
Children and the Fifth House
This lesson will deal with children and childbirth, in both male and female charts,
the fifth house representing children of either sex as it is represented in both
gender charts.
Female Chart:
For childbirth, both male and female are responsible. The female chart is the
most important however, due to a females menstrual cycle, the uterus, and the
ovum which have a significant role to play in child birth.
As a womans menstrual cycle is based on the Moon and Mars, both these
planets must be strong in the chart and should not be afflicted in any way. The
period between two monthly cycles is based on the transit of the Moon, which
takes 27.25 days to transit all the constellations. Generally it is observed in a
healthy female, that the menstrual cycle occurs in the same constellation every
time. If such a constellation at the time of the menstrual cycle is not afflicted by
Mars or Rahu, then the female ovum prepared for that cycle is healthy and can
give conception if and when it comes in contact with male semen.
In order to have children, the 7th house in a female chart and the 7th lord should
not be afflicted. Malefic planets with less points, placed in the 7th house, may
spoil this house. If the 7th lord is placed in the lagna with more points, it will spoil
the effects of the 7th house.
If the 7th lord comes within 3 degrees of the Sun, the effects of 7th house will
become spoiled.
The 2nd lord and the 2nd house should be free of any afflictions.
Retrograde planets have no effect on the 7th house.
Male Chart:
The eighth house in a male chart indicates semen, Anddkosha and genetic
properties. Planets in the 5th house having more points in a male chart can give a
problem with semen counts, because any planet with more points reduces the
results of the 4th place from it.
94
The lord of the eighth house is Mars, which represents blood, semen and
chromosomes. The natural karaka for the eighth house is Mercury, so this house
should be healthy when looking for signs of a healthy child. Mars in the 2nd house
with more points can spoil some of the properties of semen.
From a medical science point of view, there are XX chromosomes in the female
seed, while the male semen carries the XY chromosomes in equal numbers,
known as sperm counts. When the sperm counts reach about 100 million per CC,
then the male is fit for impregnating a female for the purposes of childbirth.
The blood groups can be be of two types, RH positive or RH negative. For proper
and healthy child birth, similar RH groups are required. Opposite groups will
increase the chances of spontaneous abortions and miscarriages. Generally for
the first time, the chances for conception are 75%, the second time it may be
40% and the third time, only a 20% chance, when opposite blood groups are
involved.
The ovum becomes ovulated from 10 to 16 days from the first day of a females
menstrual cycle, where it remains active, in normal condition, for two days. If the
female ovum comes in contact with male semen during this time, a conception
occurs. If the X chromosome of the female ovum joins with the X chromosome of
the male, then the sex of the child is female. If the X chromosome of the female
is joined with the males Y chromosome, then the sex of the child is male. When
chromosomes join up as XXX, XXY, or XYY, it is said to be in a super
chromosome state and such a child produced is mentally retarded. This happens
if Mars and Rahu afflict the 5th house.
If Mars is placed with less points in the 2nd, 10th or 11th house in a female chart,
there are more chances for a Caesarian operation to occur at the time of
delivery. A similar effect is experienced when Mars is placed in the 5th with more
points. In the above case, if Rahu is situated in the 1st, 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th place
from Mars, the chances of a super chromosome state becomes increasingly
possible.
The X chromosomes in a males semen become very active when he becomes
tense, worried or anxious, which could be due to new responsibilities in a
marriage commitment. Knowingly or unknowingly, the male can be under some
tension, which can be indicated from the points in the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th
houses. If these points are in rising order, the person takes on a big venture
(relatively speaking). General such a person will have a female as a first child.
95
Moon:
If the Moon resides in the 5th house with more points, it is an indication of much
happiness from children. If Jupiter has more points and lies in the 10th place from
the Moon, it will give better children by character. (this is specifically applicable to
the Moon and Jupiter only). The malefic sight of Mars and Saturn is always
harmful.
Mars:
When Mars has more points in the 5th house, this increases the chances for a
male child. The same Mars in the 5th with less points however indicates abortion
or shortened longevity for the child. Similar effects of malefic and benefic sights
should also be considered. If Mars under these conditions has any relationship
with Rahu, it spoils the results for children.
Mercury:
If Mercury resides in the 5th house with more points and there are no malefic
sights of Jupiter or Saturn, then this gives the best happiness for children. This
same Mercury having malefic sights of Jupiter and/or Saturn can be an indicator
of having no children at all.
Jupiter:
Jupiter in the 5th is good for children. If such a Jupiter has less points then it will
indicate the birth of female children.
96
Venus:
Venus with more points in the 5th house gives more female children then male
children.
Saturn:
If Saturn is placed in the 5th house with more points, this does not indicate
obstructions to having children. But it does delay marriage, and reduces the
happiness of the spouse. In a female chart, Saturn in the 5th house with more
points indicates some problem with the uterus, irregular menstrual cycles, small
opening in the uterus, and some pain at the time of monthly cycle in lower part of
abdomen.
If Saturn does not have help from other planets, it will indicate the birth of a child
after 30 years of age. If this Saturn has malefic aspects from the Sun, it
indicates no child.
Rahu or Ketu:
Rahu or Ketu in the fifth house, not having any aspect from any planet, creates
no problem for childbirth. If it is situated with Saturn or Mars, it creates worries
about children. Abortion, short life of the child etc., is indicated as well.
In a male chart, the 11th house and the 8th house also have importance. If those
houses are afflicted, it will indicate some problem in childbirth.
Conception:
The Moon travels approximately one constellation per day. There are 365.25
days to a year. Therefore in one year the Moon will make 13 rounds of the natal
chart and 10 to 14 constellations more. Because of this, every year the capacity
for a female to conceive, changes. In an average year a female will have about
13 menstrual cycles or periods. After every 13 periods, there is some change in a
womans body. The total average periods in the life of a woman are between 350
to 475. Similarly the capacity of the ovum to combine with the X and Y
chromosomes also changes. This phenomenon can be used to correctly predict
the sex of the new child up to about an 85% accuracy rate. Of course, there are
other factors at work here as well.
After mating, conception can take place as shortly as 10 minutes after or as long
as 10 hours later. The constellation in which the conception takes place is known
97
as the Adhana Nakshatra. The birth of the child takes place after approximately
272.25 days, varying up to 27.25 days depending on the health of the child.
According to the age of each woman, every constellation (Nakshatra) will have
an important role to play in order to decide the sex of the child. As a result of
lengthy research the following Conception Chart has been constructed, showing
the age of the mother along the top and the names of every Nakshatra along the
side. From this table, the age at which the conception took place and in what
Nakshatra, will give the intercepting sex of the child.
At the time of mating, the sub period of a strong significator for the 5th house
should be in effect and in a favorable period. At the time of a womans menstrual
cycle, if the moon is traveling in a house having more points and having benefic
sight of Mars, then 10 to 14 days after her period, the ovum is fully capable of
giving the result.

FEMALE CHILD - F
MALE CHILD M
POSSIBILITY OF BOTH - /
For finding any event we must always start from the karaka planet, both the
functional and the natural karakas.
In discussing childbirth, if we focus House B on the 5th, the 12th house now
becomes House A. Its lord is known as the functional karaka, while Jupiter is the
natural karaka for children. If these planets receive no afflictions and they get a
minimum of 12 points in the worksheet for the 5th house, then there is a
possibility of having children.
The lords of Houses D and E also play an important role. Those planets should
not be afflicted. Similarly, the 8th house and its lord must also be healthy. Last but
not least, we should see that the 5th house isnt afflicted by either Mars or Rahu.
If such is the case, then childbirth can occur in either the first sub period of the
strongest significator, or in the lords of either D or E.

LESSON 21
Vyavasaya Jataka: (Occupation)
This is one of the branches of astrology that determines the favorable
occupations of the Jataka, which means judgement of a birth chart. Earning and
occupation are two different things. If a person does work that he likes to do, it
doesnt necessarily mean that he will earn more money while doing it. Planetary
positions can decide the preferences of the person, as to which job will be more
suitable according to his talents and capacities. How much he will earn, however,
is an entirely different issue. From the chart we can find out in which capacity a
person can achieve success and how one can best utilize that maximum
capacity.
Although a person may be in any occupation or business, the earning capacity
depends on his DHANA YOGA, which are planetary combinations showing how
much wealth a person can earn and accumulate. Actually eveything is relative.
as there is no way to find the numerical value of money. Suppose, for example,
there is an indicator that one will win a lottery or get unearned income. It can be
any small amount from $10.00 to as much as $100,000 or more. There is no way
to actually pinpoint the exact amount of money that will be won.
A foolish person may be wealthy, while a wise person may be penniless. There
is no direct relation to wealth or the occupation. For wealth, we consider the 2nd,
5th, 8th, and 11th houses. For occupation, the 1st 4th, 6th, and 10th houses are to
be considered. Two people can go to the same school and take the same
courses, yet when the time comes to go out and make a living, one will make
ample money, while the other person may barely get by.
How much a person earns for a living cannot be judged by the capacity of the
person himself, his intellect, his memory, his grasping power, his knowledge, etc.
Of course all these things are inter-related, but are independent in behavior.
For selecting the correct occupation from the chart, one must find the favorable
planets. For this we must know the true strengths of the planets. This is only
possible with the Ashtakavarga system. For finding the capabilities of the person
we must know his intelligence, his memory, his grasping power. For the selection
of any occupation, these things play an important role. For any work that
requires art, creativeness, or delicacy, ones Venus must be strong. A surgeon,
along with the delicacy of a strong Venus, needs to have his Mars strong also, so
he can perform delicate operations without damaging other parts of the body.
So, for being a surgeon one must have good dexterity skills, delicacy, a good
foundation of knowledge and should be able to make the right decisions in an
emergency situation. The Venus, Mars, along with Jupiter must be strong.
100
A butcher also cuts up animals, a person doing autopsies also opens the human
body, but these talents dont require life saving skills. The Moon and Mars must
be strong, but not necessarily including Venus. Remember we are talking only
about the 10th house. So Venus in this house placement does not require more
strength. A butcher can also have love in his life, so Venus in that area of his life
will be judged on its strengths in another capacity. A butchers talents may not
require as much memory, grasping power, brilliancy, as compared to a surgeon.
A trader, a cutlery store owner, a shop keeper . . . All of these occupations
require a different type of skill then for example a scientist, or an engineer. A
musician, a singer or a poet requires another different set of qualities. Poets
must possess high powers of imagination and expression, while musicians need
to have good timing, self discipline to practice many hours over and over until the
music is right, a sense of harmony and structure and how to build this into songs
of poetry.
So in short, different occupations require different skills and talents. The qualities
of every planet are different. The perfect occupation and intelligence level for a
person can be assessed by checking out the strong planets for the 10th house.
For intelligence and sharpness of mind, Saturn is responsible because the
karaka for knowledge is Saturn. The fourth house is still another indicator for
knowledge. The Navamsa,Trimsamsa and Dreshkana divisionals must also be
considered here. When the Sun, Moon and Lagna are in the above charts in
the divisional parts ruled by Saturn, it indicates the intelligence level of the
person. Here we are referring to three planets (this includes Lagna) and
three divisional charts. So there are nine chances that these planets will be
in divisionals ruled by of Saturn.
In Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, (Figures 1 and 2), NO
planets can be in the Dreshkana of Saturn. Dreshkana divisions are the same
thing as decanates, where each sign, having 30 degrees each, is then divided up
into 3 equal groups of 10 degrees and all of these sub signs are in trine to each
other, therefore in the same element. In Taurus and Gemini, the last 10 degrees
are in the division ruled by Saturn. For Virgo and Libra, the middle 10 degrees
are in the division ruled by Saturn. And in Capricorn and Aquarius, first 10
degrees are in the division ruled by Saturn.
Saturn is the planet that gives brilliancy to the intellect. Education goes to
Jupiter. Saturn is the natural karaka for the 4th house and Jupiter is the natural
karaka for the 5th house. The 4th house is Vidya, meaning learning, education
and knowledge. The 5th indicates an educational degree and the 9th indicates a
post degree.

In the navamsa charts, (Figures 3 and 4), the 3 fire signs, Aries, Leo, and
Sagittarius (in grey), have NO divisions ruled by Saturn. For the 3 earth signs,
Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, (In orange) the first 6 degrees and 40 minutes are
in divisions of Saturn. For the 3 air signs, Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, (in
green),10 to 16 degree and 40 minutes are in the navamsha of Saturn. And for
the 3 remaining water signs, (in blue), 20 to 26 degrees, 40 minutes are in the

The Trimsamsa refers to the degrees of a sign that are grouped under the five
planets ruling the five Tattvas, which are Fire, Earth, Air, Water and Ether
(physical and subtle elements which are states of matter and energy). So, the
Trimsamsa basically divides up the rasi by 5, yet the divisions are unequal. The
divisions run as follows: in Odd signs, the first 5 degrees belong to Aries
Trimsamsa; the next 5 degrees (5-10) belong to Aquarius; From 10-18 degrees
belong to Sagittarius; from 18-25 belong to Gemini; and then from 25-30 belong
to Libra. In even signs, the divisions are the reverse of this, starting with Taurus.
So 0-5 belong to Taurus; 5-12 belong to Virgo; 12 to 20 belong to Pisces; 20-25
belong to Capricorn; and 25-30 belong to Scorpio.
You will notice that none of the Trimsamsas are ruled by either Cancer or Leo.
Thus the Rasis representing the 5 Tattvas are referred to and not those of the
Sun and Moon, which represent dimensions associated with light, or
consciousness. And so the Trimsamsa deals with actions performed on the
physical plane and has nothing to do with spiritual matters.

1) If we get either the Sun, Moon, or Lagna in at least one place in any of the
above 3 Divisional Charts in any of the divisions of Saturn, we can say
that the person has ordinary intelligence.
2) If the Sun, Moon or Lagna can be found in two places, then we can
surmise that the person has a good memory, intelligence and also
sharpness.
3) If found in three places, then we can assume that the person has a very
good, perhaps photographic memory and also good grasping power. The
person can be good at mathematics. Good imagining power is the result of
at least at three places in the divisionals of Saturn.
4) If the Sun, Moon and Lagna are found in more than 3 places in the
divisional charts of Saturn, (and the same if the Moon is samdharmi to
Saturn), the brilliancy of the persons talents may be put to misuse. We
are talking only for Navamsa, Trimsamsa, and Dreshkana charts.
5) If these planets are found in the divisions of Jupiter. If in more then 3
places the person has a belief in God. He may not use his talents for
destruction. Similarly, Mars gives more daring, Venus gives good skills,
and Mercury gives good knowledge of worldly matters and behavior.
Before judging the line of occupation, the mental capabilities of the person must
be first be assessed. Then, the 10th lord and the planets in 10th house should be
studied. The navamsa lord of the planets is responsible for the selection of
the occupation. This can be found by checking the 10th lords and the planets in
the 10th house from the Lagna, Sun and the Moon. The placement of the
navamsa lord is also important in the main chart. (Actually these planets are
Samdharmi planets)

Some types of business only bring in intermittent flows of money, the gap
between two deals for example, may be a few hours to a few months. Civil
contractors, capital equipment suppliers, dealers of real estate, etc., are under
this category.
Then there are some people who receive money on a specific monthly date for
example. We can include people in service under this category.
All of these situations depend on the fast or slow moving planets as well as the
lagna:
1) If the points in houses 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th are in a zig zag order, the
person is mostly in service work.
2) If the points in the 10th house are less than the points of the 11th, then the
person receives a good income compared to his labor.
3) If it is in reverse order, meaning that the 11th house has less than the
10th, it means that the person is doing hard work and getting paid less.
4) If the points in the 11th and 12th houses are compared and the 11th
house points are less, it means that the persons expenditures are more
than the income, or he is unable to keep the income flowing in. This may
be due to a more expensive nature.
5) If the points in the houses 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th are more than
28, the person may be receiving a steady income during the whole of his
working daylight hours. So if there are indications of his having his own
business, he can do any business where the money is coming in steadily
during the whole of the working day. The points in the 2nd, 6th, 10th and
11th should be more than 29 and should be in increasing order.
6) If the points in 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th are more than 28, the person can do
some business that operates in the night hours, such as nightclubs, for
instance.
7) A person doing any business in which the Sun is traveling during his
business hours, should have points more than 28.

We can see from the above chart that out of nine, three are in divisions ruled by
Saturn. This indicates that the person has a good memory and grasping power.
Selection of Service or Own Occupation:
Step Three:
The total points for 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses from the Lagna are 30, 34, 27
and 30, (see Figure 7) which are in a zigzag manner, so the person does not
have the daring to risk starting his own business. He will prefer service. The
points in the 12th house are also 30, which means that the person will just about
make ends meet. His expenditure versus his income just balance each other out,
leaving no room for any savings.
112
The same thing applies to the Moon. The 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses from the
Moons placement fall in the 6th, 9th, 1st and 2nd houses. The points are 34, 28,
24 and 28. Again, these points do not indicate the person owning his own
business.
Step Four:
From the above information, we have Jupiter and Mercury pointing to the
occupation of the individual. Concentrating also on the worksheet, we will find
that Mercury and Saturn also have good points for all of the 12 houses. Jupiter
has less points for the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 11th house. For the 11th house, it has
minus 1. Saturn, having good strength, is situated in the sign ruled by Mars and
in the navamsa, it is in the house of the Sun.
The line of occupation beneficial to the person may be related to Mercury and
Saturn in some way. This can be perhaps in the field of commercial management
or management of man, machine, or money.
This person passed his Mechanical Engineering Degree, but didnt go into a job
right away. He finally started working as a subordinate to an account clerk.
One day, he approached me and I suggested that he take an MBA course, which
is a Masters degree course in management. He did so and is now working as a
Personnel Manager, getting a decent salary and feeling satisfied in his new job.
He selected Mechanical Engineering due to pressure from his parents, but he
was interested in Commerce. Looking at his brilliancy, his father and others
asked him to take up an Engineering education.

LESSON 22
Worksheet Review on Basics
We will take an example of a chart for a person born on the 22nd of January 1922 and
apply it to the worksheet in a step by step fashion as a review. First, the basics again . .
BASIC PRINCIPLES:
1. Cast the chart using Krushnas Ayanamsha. (This can be taken from Krushnas
calculator.)
2. Cast the Sarvashtakavarga table for the chart using the Lagna as the 1st house.
3. Select the house for the event matter to which you want to focus on and call it
House B.
4. Ascertain the placements of the Upachaya houses, A, B, C, D and E. (You can
easily see this by using Krushnas Upachaya Charts Program.)
5. B is the house for which you are looking for the result.
6. The 8th house from B is known as A.
7. The 10th house from A is known as C.
8. The 3rd house from A is known as D.
9. The 11th house from A is known as E.
10. Find out the points from the Binnashtaka Varga tables for every planet in the A, B
and C houses. (This is the equivalent of the 2nd row in the worksheet.)
11. Total up these points. This will be the basic strength of the planets for the house
result. (equivalent of Row 3 in worksheet).
12. Look for the planets with less than 4 points (3, 2, 1 or 0) in the place the planet is
situated.
13. If there is any planet in the 4th place from such a planet, mark it. (This is the
equivalent to Row 4 and sub divisions a, b, c, d)
14. Write the points of these 4th place planets in Row 3. This is the equivalent of Row
5 ; a, b, c, d in the worksheet)
15. Add these points to the main planet in Row 1. The answer is in Row 6.
16. Since the lords of D and E are more eager to give results, add 5 points to each of
them.
17. If there is any planet in house D and E with more than 4 points (5, 6, 7 or 8), add
these points to the planet in Row 1. (answer is in Row 9).
18. Now we must find the sight of the planets on houses A, B and C. Planets with less
than 4 points will give benefic sight, so we add 8 points of the planet to the total
we get in Row 9. (Sight always gives the reverse effect). If the planet has more
than 4 points, then the sight will be malefic and equal to the points of the planet,
so deduct equal points from the total in Row 9. We get the result in Row 13. Sight
of the planets with 4 points is considered to be neutral, so no effect should be
given.
19. Now the sight of the planets on other planets should be considered next. Here we
adopt a similar procedure. For benefic sight, we add the points that are equal to 8
114
points of the planet and for the malefic sight we deduct these points. The total we
arrive at goes to Row 17.
20. Here, we consider the lordship of the planets. Lord of House D and E do not have
malefic sight on the planets and the house, so only benefic sight of such planets is
taken. This is considered for both procedures 18 and 19.
21. Benefic sight of the lord of the 12th house from House B is not considered. It is
assumed that the Lord of the 12th house from House B does not give benefic sight.
The Sun and the Moon are not taken into consideration here for Lord of the 12th
house from B, so their benefic sight on a planet or on the houses A,B,C is
considered.
22. Thus we get the power of each planet for house B. Planets having more than 12
points are considered benefic planets for house B and will help in achieving the
results that can be expected in this house.
USING THE EXAMPLE OF JAN 22, 1922
Using this same procedure we will now follow thru with this example for finding the
result of the 7th house.
(Figure 1)
A
115
In the charts from Figure 1, if we look at the Binnashtaka Varga for the Sun, we can see
that the Sun has 2 points in house A, 3 points in house B and 4 points in house C. If we
total up these points we will find the basic strength of the Sun for the 7th house focus.
Similarly, we must find the strength of the other planets in the same placements.
Therefore, the Moon gets a total of 13, Mars gets 9, Mercury receives 13, Jupiter gets 11,
Venus gets 13 and finally Saturn receives 9 points. (This covers the procedure up to Step
10 in the basics).
According to Step 11, we can see that according to Mars placement in the 9th house, it
has less than 4 points (2 pts). According to Mercurys placement in the 12th house, it
only has 3 points and Saturns placement in the 8th house only gives it 3 as well. All of
these planets will give benefic sight to the houses or planets that it aspects.
Now, looking at Step 12, we will see if there might be any planet or planets in the 4th
place from these three planets.

As we can see from Figure 2, only Mars has the planets Venus, Sun and Mercury in the
4th house from itself (in House E). There are no planets in the 4th from either Saturn or
Mercury. (We do not consider Rahu, Ketu or any other outer planets).
As we move on to Step 13, we can see that Venus has 13 points in total basic strength,
Mercury has 13 and the Sun has 9 points. (see Figure 1)
Step 14 tells us to add these points to the basic strength of Mars, which had 9 points. So
we have 9 (its basic strength) + 13 (Venus) + 13 (Mercury) + 9 (Sun). The total strength
of Mars NOW becomes 44. For the other planets, there is no change. The final strength
after this step is written in Row 6.
116
The strength of the planets so far is Sun (9), Moon (13), Mars (44), Mercury (13), Jupiter
(11), Venus (13) and Saturn (9).
According to Step 15, the 4th house is house D, whose lord is Venus and the 12th house is
house E, ruled by Saturn (see Figure 2). So we must add 5 points to these planets as they
are more eager to give the result. Similarly, Venus, Mercury and the Sun are placed in
house E. Out of these 3 planets, only the Sun has more than 4 points (5), so we add 5
points to the Sun also. (Step 16).
Add these points and write them in Row 9. Thus far we get the strengths as Sun (14),
Moon (13), Mars (44), Mercury (13), Jupiter (11), Venus (18) and Saturn (14). Weve
reached Step 17.
For Step 18, we should look to find the sight of the planets on houses A, B and C. Here,
we find that Jupiter and Saturn have sight on house A. Jupiter has 5 points so its sight on
house A is considered a malefic, and we deduct 5 points from the total that weve gotten
so far in Row 9 for Jupiter. Similarly, the sight of Saturn is benefic as it has less than 4
points. Benefic sight means, 8 minus the points of the planet. So we add 5 points (8 3
=5) to the points in Row 9 against Saturn.
Now the points total up as follows:
Sun (14), Moon (13), Mars (44), Mercury (13), Jupiter (6), Venus (18) and Saturn (19).
This completes Step 18.
According to Step 19, we have to consider the effect of sight of the planets on other
planets. If we look at the chart (Figure 2), we can see that Jupiter and Mars have their
sight on the Sun, Mercury and Venus. Saturn has its sight on the Moon. So the five points
due to Jupiter will be deducted from the Sun, Mercury and Venus and 6 points will be
added due to the sight of Mars (8-2= 6). Similarly, due to the benefic sight of Saturn on
the Moon, 5 points will be increased for the points of the Moon.
We get the final strength in Row 17 as follows:
Sun (15), Moon (18), Mars (44), Mercury (14), Jupiter (6), Venus (19) and Saturn (19).
These points will be responsible for the results of the 7th house, which can be ascertained
according to the points of the planets in their sub periods. As we look at these points (all
except Jupiter), all the planets show good strength (12 or over). This means that all the
results denoted by the 7th house will be achieved in better quality. Please also note that if
in this case, Jupiter would have been the lord of house D or E, its sight on the planets and
houses would NOT have been considered a malefic, so no points would have been
deducted. Similarly, if Saturn, the lord of house E, wouldve had MORE than 4 points, its
sight would not have been treated as malefic. Also, if Saturn would have been the lord of
the 12th house from B, (the 6th house), then its sight would have not been considered
benefic. If Jupiter would have been the lord of the 12th from B, no change would have
been considered to its sight because it would still be having malefic sight.

LESSON 23
More Rules for a Love Marriage
The following rules indicate a few more laws that will indicate when a native is like to
have a love marriage or perhaps a marriage with a person already known to them. (These
laws are applicable in the Indian culture and may or may not apply in the west.)
The 5th house rules friendships. When there is a relationship between the 5th and the 7th
house, there is a chance of a love marriage.
There is also a chance of a love marriage when:
The strongest significator is situated in the 5th house and is accompanied by Rahu.
The 7th lord is situated in the 4th place from the strongest significator.
Mars and Venus are in the same sign and aspected by Saturn.
If the 7th lord is samdharmi to the Moon.
If Jupiter and the 7th lord are in trine and each of them has more points.
Rahu is with Mars and has less points, or Mars has more points and is in the sight
of Saturn, who has less points. Then the marriage may occur in the sub period of
Rahu.
7) There is a conjunction of the Moon with Venus. (this may be in the Navamsha),
which stimulates interest in the opposite sex and new attachments or unions,
which may be formed. If Venus is the 7th lord, then this may bring about
marriage.
8) Venus is in a trine in the rashi chart or the Navamsha chart. This gives much
pleasure or brings about a love affair, a matrimonial alliance or some type of
union.
9) The Sun and Venus has a difference of more than 43 degrees and Venus is strong
as well as being aspected by Jupiter.
10) The strongest significator is samdharmi to the 5th lord.
11) For Aries and Scorpio natives, if Mars is powerful in the chart.
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
6)
These effects as well as previous laws on marriage in Lesson 10 can be activated ONLY
when more than 2 laws have been fulfilled!
If Jupiter has a check on the strongest significator, then such an event will not take place.
Following are the two charts, one a love marriage (Figure 1) versus a chart of an arranged
marriage (Figure 2), so that you can better see the clarifications from the previous rules.

LESSON 24
Rules for a Non- Marital Status
In order to find out if the person is not married yet, look for 2/3 of the following rules in a
chart:
1) For the 2nd, 7th, 8th and 12th houses, a minimum of at least three places should
have ZERO points due to Mars and/or Saturn.
2) In rule #1, if the Moon is waning, then there will be no marriage.
3) Venus and the Sun are more than 43 degrees apart and there are less points given
to Venus for the 1st and the 7th house. If such a Venus has sight of Saturn, then
this will give more difficulty in finding a marriage partner.
4) If Jupiter in Libra has more points, there is a possibility of no marriage. If such a
Jupiter is in the 2nd or the 7th house, there is even less of a possibility.
5) If the Moon and Saturn are situated in the 7th house with less points, there will be
either a very late marriage or no marriage at all.
6) If the lord of the 1st house and the lord of the Moon sign situated in the 7th house
has less points and if the lord of the 7th house situated in the 12th house has less
points, then there will be no marriage.
7) When the Moon and Venus are situated in any one house and if Saturn and Mars
in the 7th house from them has less points, then this gives no marriage.
8) If the lord of the 7th house is either Mars or Saturn and the Moon is any place with
Saturn / Mars having less points, this signifies no marriage.
Only unhappy marriages are performed in the sub of the planet having less points, or in
the sub period of the 6th lord.
120
LESSON 25
Summary Rules for Significators and their Samdharmi
The word Samdharmimeans same law or same custom or same peculiarity.
When two planets are said to be Samdharmi, they follow the same law or custom.
There are two types of Samdharmi. 1) Natural Samdharmi 2) Functional Samdharmi
(also refer to Lesson #8 on Page 44 in your Lesson book).
Natural Samdharmi:
Venus and Saturn, Mars and Sun, Mars and Moon are known as Natural Samdharmis. If
any of these planets are powerful significators for an event and the other one gets a
chance, it will give the result. Results are generally given in the sub period of the planet,
but it is not required that these planets should be functional samdharmi.
Only when these two planets are situated in their opposite signs, meaning a 1:7
relationship and if one planet has a minimum of 4 points or more (which gives results on
both sides), the other planet will not act as samdharmi. In this case it is not vice versa.
For example, lets say that Venus and Saturn are Natural Samdharmi to each other. They
are then placed in opposite signs from one another in the chart. Venus has 5 points while
Saturn has 3 points. Any two planets when they are in a 1:7 relationship, have some
enmity towards each other. The planet with more points will not cooperate with the other
planet of lesser points. In this case, Venus will not accept support from Saturn,
preventing Saturn from acting as Samdharmi towards Venus. But if Saturn is a strong
significator, then Venus can give the result. Any planets with 4 points exactly are said to
be neutral. When it is linked to a Samdharmi planet however, it refuses to accept help and
in this case, Venus will not get substituted by Saturn.
Similarly, when Venus is in the nakshatra of the Krittika constellation, or 43 degrees
away from the Sun, or nearer to the Sun within 3 degrees (combust), it will not accept
help from Saturn, allowing it to act as Samdharmi for it. Venus in the above conditions
gives a malefic result. When Venus is in the Suns constellation it also gets its power
reduced. In Krittika, it looses all of its natural properties.
Functional Samdharmi:
In the following situation, two planets are considered to be Functional Samdharmi in
order of significance:
1) When one planet has less points and is situated in the tenth place from any other
planet. For example, lets say that Planet B has less points and Planet A is
placed in the fourth house from it with more points. (see figure 1 in Lesson 8,
pages 44-45). Planet A must have more points that B in order to become
121

6) Samdharmi planets generally act for benefic results only. For malefic results, they
will NOT come forward. Death however, is an exceptional event. Although we
usually view it as a bad event, it is experienced in the sub of a powerful
significator for the 8th house. Death may be a possible event in the sub period of a
Samdharmi planet.
122
7) Generally, the Samdharmi should have at least 12 points. Then and only then, it
will act as a Samdharmi. (see figure 2)

8) Samdharmi planets come forward only in the event that a powerful significator is
unable to give the result. OR . . .
if the sub of a powerful planet is far away and the samdharmi planet corresponds
to the proper age for that event OR. . .
if the event is indicated as delayed, then even if the powerful planets sub period
is earlier, the result will not be experienced and in such a case, the samdharmi will
come forward to act.
9) Jupiter in Libra looses its good qualities and acts as a malefic instead. This is
generally experienced for marriage. If Jupiter in this case is Samdharmi to any
planet, it may give the results, but the results will be troublesome.
10) If any planet is the sixth lord, it will not act as Samdharmi to any planet. But here
it becomes the exception to the rule when we place the focus for the result on the
1st or the 9th house.
11) If any planet gets points given to the sixth lord which may be due to a 4:10 house
pattern or by sight, it will not act as Samdharmi.
12) Similar treatment should be given for the 12th lord from B meaning that if any
planet gives points to the 12th lord from B, it will not act as Samdharmi.
123
13) Suppose we are considering the result of a 10th house focus (B). Then, if any
planet becomes powerful due to the 9th lord being in the 4th place from it, such
planets will not act as a significator.
14) If a Samdharmi planet is placed in the 12th house from B, it will not give good
results.
15) If a Samdharmi planet is placed in either the A, B or C houses, it will give better
results.
16) We consider the sight of a powerful significator for not giving the results, but for
Samdharmi planets, this is not applicable.
17) Suppose P and R are Samdharmi planets. For any house, lets say that P is a
powerful significator. R will not interfere until P finds itself unable to give results,
according to the rules of #8.
18) Samdharmi planets may come forward without any reason if it is also the
powerful Samdharmi to the lord of either the D or E houses.
More Samdharmi Clarifications:
1. When you define natural samdharmis, you mention Moon and Mars, and Sun and Mars
as natural samdharmis apart from Saturn and Venus. I have no question about Saturn and
Venus. However, we had some discussion about the others some months ago. You had
mentioned that planet A owning the 4th house from planet B becomes samdharmi to
planet B. This means that it can give the result for B (provided other conditions are met
and the planets A and B do not own mutually opposing houses). However, B cannot give
the result for A. In other words, B commands A so A has to do B's work but the reverse is
not true. In the case of Saturn and Venus, each owns the 4th house from the other so they
are mutual samdharmis. However, in the case of Mars with the luminaries, Mars
commands Moon but is commanded by Sun. As such, these are not mutual samdharmis,
but a one sided relation. In this case, Moon can stand in for Mars but Mars will not stand
in for Moon (unless they are samdharmi due to some other reason). Similarly, Mars will
give the result for Sun but Sun would not give the result for Mars. Please advise if this is
correct or not.
Answer: When two planets are in a 4:10 relationship, the results we are considering are
purely based on the Points of the planet in the 10th house. If the planet in the 10th house
has more points, they cannot be samdharmi. In the case of the Moon and Mars, they are
natural samdharmi. Of course this is due to their natural 4:10 relationship. It is not due to
their points. It is similar for the Sun and Mars. The reasoning behind this may be due to
the debilitated sign of Mars and the Moon and also the other relationship of 9:5, where
the constellations are ruled by same planets
124
2. You mention that when planets are opposing, then the planet with 4 or more points will
not act as samdharmi to the other planet. However, the planet with less than 4 points will
act as samdharmi. Is this true for only natural samdharmis or also for the functional ones?
Also, planets if they are samdharmi because of some other reason, does one stop acting
like samdharmi to the other if it is malefically aspected by the other one because of some
aspect other than the 7th? I hope my question is clear.
Answer: The 7th sight is treated as a sight of enmity. Other sights are considered for
results. This is applicable to only natural samdharmi. When any planets are in a 1st
house: 7th house relationship, they cannot be samdharmi.
3. In the order of the strength of samdharmi relations (point 5 of the lesson), you have
only defined this for functional samdharmis. What is the strength of natural
samdharmiship?
Answer: There is no difference in the strength of natural samdharmi.
4. In point 9, you have mentioned about Jupiter. Is this only for marriage or true for all
affairs in general. That is, is Jupiter in Libra bad for all affairs or only for marriage? I
think in your previous mails, it was only for marriage. I just want to reconfirm.
Answer: Jupiter in Libra, is bad for marriage, even it does not give much better results
for the 4th, 2nd, 12th and 8th house. In other things these houses play an important role.
In that case, the result is not achieved in full strength. For marriage, the result is not good.
In my opinion, marriage is a very important event of the life. If it is disturbed, the person
may not be able to show his full efficiency. If we consider the result for the 3rd house, the
7th house is C, and the 10th is A. So, for every successful person, the 7th house has an
important role.
5. In point 10, you mention that the 6th lord (except for house 1 and 9), will not act as
samdharmi to any planet. However, in previous clarifications, you have generally spared
Sun and Moon from the defects of 6th lord. Is that exception for Sun and Moon valid here
also? That is, do Sun and Moon act as samdharmi even if they are 6th lords?
Answer: The Sun and the Moon should not be considered as 6th lord. They may give bad
results, but not due to being the 6th lord.
6. In point 11, you say that any planet getting any points from 6th lord will not act as
samdharmi. Is this for all houses? Also, do Sun and Moon have a special status here if 6th
lords? What if the planet is samdharmi to the 6th lord itself? Will it not act for the 6th
lord? What about a planet which is conjunct the 6th lord? Will it not act as a samdharmi
to any other planet?
Answer: If any planet becomes powerful due to the sight of the 6th lord, or being placed
in the 10th house from the 6th lord with less points, then for good results, this planet
should not be considered. Sun and Moon should not be treated as 6th lord. They do not

126
LESSON 26
Using Multiplication Table to Assess Strength Factor For Planets
We can normally find the strength of the planets from the Ashtakvarga by using
the work sheet for each and every house. If any planet gets 12 points, we can
conclude that this will not give a malefic result. When the planet is situated in
any particular sign, the strength of the result is in accordance to the sign that the
planet is placed in.
Generally, this multiplication method is not applied as a rule for finding the date
of the event, but if this IS applied, it can give further insight and a clearer idea.
This will also show you how a planet that is not getting the highest points can
come forward to give the better result.
The following table gives the multiplication factor, meaning that the total strength
of a planet in each sign should be multiplied by this factor. The figure we arrive at
will be the actual strength factor of the planet.

Example: Lets say that the Sun is in Taurus, and for the particular house it is in,
it is getting 24 points. If we look in the above table for the Sun in Taurus, we can
see that the multiplying factor is 0.5 (in blue), So the strength factor will be 24X
0.5 = 12. Now suppose Mars is in Aries, and for a particular house it is in, it has
12 points, so in this case the strength factor will be 12 X 1.4 = 16.8. From this we
can assess that the result given by Mars (16.8) will be better (stronger) than the
Sun (12).
Please note that this has nothing to do with the timing of an event. Do not
confuse these two methods! The timing of different events is ruled by the
Sun. This means that the event will be in the sub period of the Sun. In the
sub period of Mars, the results pertaining to that house will be better than the
Sun.
128
LESSON 27
How To Find the Timing Event
I think that every body has followed so far, how to calculate the strength of the
planets for each and every house.
All the good and beneficial results are achieved in the sub periods of powerful
planets and in the sub of lord of D and E and samdharmi to these planets.
If the result is not good or not beneficial, the result may be experienced in the
planet having less points. This is experienced particularly for marriage.
For divorce, no children, or the death of the life partner, marriage may be in the
sub of the planet having less points. Similar results may be assumed for other
events of the life. (sometimes, we may fail here in finding the timing event,
because we never go for a bad result.) A chart with a delayed marriage
sometimes gets the result in the planet having less points, but a person does not
find happiness with such a relationship.
Only the event of Death happens in the sub of a planet having more points, or
the planet has less points for the 3rd house and more points in the 8th house.
(The 3rd house is life and the 8th is death)
Some results are time bound, and depend upon the age factor, while other
results are dependent upon various factors such as child birth, which should be
after marriage and not before.
In considering all the points, we must ascertain the sub period for any event.
Once the sub period is fixed, then the second point is to find the probable date.
Here we can take the help from the Suns transit. The Sun is boss of all the
planets.
The event happens when the transit of the Sun is in the constellation and the
sign of powerful planets. For this we have a chart indicating the date of the event.
We have already studied that the events indicated by any house depends upon
counting 6 houses in a backward direction, or 8 houses in a forward direction to
arrive at the same point. If we start from the 7th house as a focus house (B), the
house of marriage, it depends upon the 2nd house (House A), and the 2nd house,
depends upon the 9th house (count 8 houses from House A), which depends
upon 4th house, (Count 8 houses from the 4th, etc.), 4th on 11th, 11th on 6th, 6th on
1st, 1st on 8th, 8th on 3rd , 3rd on 10th, 10th on 5th, 5th on 12th and 12th on 7th . Here
we complete the circle.
129
In the Indian culture, generally the sequence is 7th , then 12th , then 5th, (counting
forward in increments of 6 houses at a time). Sometimes, in the western culture,
it goes in a reverse direction, for example, the 5th, then 12th and lastly the 7th. For
a love marriage, a similar sequence is involved. The 5th for friendship, the 12th for
coming closer, and then the 7th, for converting the relationship into a life
partnership.
Now, for finding the event for marriage, the 2nd house is an important one. So the
transit of the Sun should be with the planet having good points in the 2nd house
along with 7th house. We must study the status of each and every planet, its
lordship, and the power gained due to the planets. ( if the power is gained due to
12th lord from 7th, it should be discarded. ) This portion has already been given in
detail, so I do not want to repeat it.
Once the sub period is fixed, and if it satisfies other conditions, ( i.e., age, if delay
is indicated, etc.) then we should select other two planets which are second and
third in strength. This way we have 3 planets. One is used for the Sub, and the
other two for the transits. Here we must not neglect the first planet, it may come
again in transit, due to more power, lordship of either D or E, or being samdharmi
to other powerful planets. ( if these planets are lord of Moon, lagna lord or the
constellation lord, they may come forward).
Some planets can not come together, for example, Saturn and Mercury,
because there is no sign ruled by Saturn which has is in the Nakshatra of
Mercury, or vice versa.
One thing we must consider is that these planets should have at least 12 points
for the 2nd house.
There is a chart, in discussion, in the SATVA group. Date of Birth 4th Jan 1966.
Birth time 5:20 pm (GMT +1) at Schona 49N52, 08E39 . Cancer Lagna 0:59.
(See Figure 1).
This is a chart of a delayed marriage, because it is has zero points in the 2nd and
8th house, due to the Moon and Saturn respectively. He can marry in a Venus
Sub in the last phase, which means after the 13th May 2005, to 3rd April 2006.
Now, other planets for transit can be Mars and Saturn, which can be possible in
Scorpio 3:20 to 16:40, or in Capricorn, the last 6:40 degrees and the start of
Aquarius at 6:40. From this we can find the date which comes to the 18th of Nov
to the 1st of Dec, 2005 or the 9th of Feb to the 21st of Feb, 2006.
He is jobless, his work situation being indicated by Mars and Mercury. So he can
go for military, police or similar work in the current period of 3rd April to 15th April.
130
His father passed away in the sons Ju-Ju dasa (Figure 1), on December 24,
1995. (Suns transit in Sagittarius with Jupiter, Mars and Mercury. See Figure 3).
Jupiter is lord of E for the fathers death (Figure 1), and is samdharmi to Venus in
the Navamsha chart (Figure 1).
Note that Sun, Mars and Mercury and Jupiter have less points in the 11th house,
the house of life. See Figure 2).
In this way we can find two or three dates for a event. In considering the status of
the planets, we can finalize the date for pin point accuracy.

LESSON 28
Houses for Various Educational Degrees
There are certain specific houses in the chart that should be considered when a
person gets an educational degree or is doing any sort of post graduate work, for
example.
When analyzing the chart and trying to select the houses for a degree and/or
post graduate work that increases the status of the individual, it would require
looking at the 6th, 10th and 5th houses, as well as their significators. The 6th house
increases the status, the 10th house represents the profession which is shown
from the lagna, while the 5th house represents the degree itself. We can also
include the 9th house for advanced and/or spiritual learning.
But before you can delve into the degree, the intelligence of the person has to be
gauged as the persons success or failure would depend on it. The karaka for
intelligence is Saturn and if the lagna lord, the Sun and the Moon are in a
Saturnian sign in the Navamsha, Drekkhana and Trimsamsha, then the person
will be very intelligent. The 4th house stands for knowledge while the 5th stands
for the degree itself. For an educational institution that doesnt give a degree, the
12th house and the 9th house would have to be studied for spirituality and higher
learning.
Sometimes we find that a person may be very intelligent, but the dasa running at
that point in his life might not be favorable at all and although a person is inclined
to study engineering for example, because of this unfavorable dasa, he may not
get admitted into a college for engineering. The strengths of the Navamsha lords
of the 10th house from the Sun, lagna and the Moon need to be studied.
What may be a good education or level of education in one country, may be
totally different in another and this should be taken into consideration when
studying these various factors in the chart as well.
So in order to sum up the various houses and what to look for when studying the
education and the degrees, we can say:
Education, Knowledge
Post Graduation
Graduation, Degree
Advanced / Spiritual Learning
4th House
9th House
5th House
6th House
10th House
9th House
12th House
133
For passing any sort of examination, one should look for favorable transits and
periods in the 5th house.
To know about a persons intellectual capacity, one should look for:
1) Lagna in Saturns sign in the Navamsha, Drekkhana and Trimsamsha
2) Moon in Saturns sign in the Navamsha, Drekkhana and Trimsamsha
3) Sun in Saturns sign in the Navamsha, Drekkhana and Trimsamsha
By studying these factors above, you can better gauge the intellect of a person
and try to select a favorable planet in the 5th house for being able to pass an
exam successfully.
Factors indicating hard work in a chart:
1) Mars is responsible for hard work.
2) More points in the 10th house indicate hard work.
3) Moon in the sign or Navamsha of Mars gives more hard work.
Saturn, on the other hand, is an indicator of laziness.
The sub dasa lord must have good strength in all the houses as this will be most
preferable for a good outcome.
There is a difference between knowledge and getting a degree. Sharpness of the
mind or having a photographic memory falls under Saturn.
For post graduation, the karaka is the Moon. If Venus and Mercury are powerful
for the 9th house, post graduation is possible. For this also, the person must also
have a sharpness of mind. In the natal chart, the Navamsha, Trimsamsha and
the Dreshkona divisional charts, if the lagna, Sun and Moon are situated in the
division of Saturn in at least 3 places (out of 12), it will indicate the mental
sharpness of the person and can give the individual a photographic memory.
134
LESSON 29
Results of Planets With More Points in Different Houses
Up until now, we have talked about finding different timed events concerning the
results indicated by the different houses. Now, we will study the results of the
planets placed in different houses. We will consider for now, the charts with an
Aries ascendant, and the effects of the different planets in various houses.
Results given here are of a general nature only and while they will be
experienced in the chart, more prominent results will be experienced in the sub of
these planets.
Although the following are the results for the Aries Ascendant, when considering
other ascendants, results should be figured out by following the same procedure,
unless members feel that it would be better for me to list all the ascendants in a
similar manner. But if the laws given here are followed, it will be very easy to
apply them to any ascendant with good results.
Aries Ascendant
Sun:
The Sun is the lord of the 5th house for the Aries ascendant. It is the lord of house
A for result of 10th house. It becomes lord of B for result of 5th house. It is lord
of C, when result for 1st house is concerned. It is lord of D, when the result of 8th
house is seen. It is lord of house E, when the result for 12th house is seen. The
Aries Ascendant is the uucha rashi (exaltation) of the Sun, and the seventh
house (Libra) is neecha rashi (debilitation) of the Sun. For an Aries ascendant,
the Sun gives good results for the12th house.
135
136
Sun in 4th house: If the Sun has more points, the person gets a good income,
May get married in the sub of Sun; good job or promotion in service, but always
will face stressful situations in his workplace. Female native have a child in the
sub of the Sun. When the Sun has less points, he may dictate to his spouse and
partners. He may not enjoy fathers property.
Sun in 5th house: Here it is in its own sign. If the Sun is placed in the 5th house
with more points, the person may have extra marital relations; will go on a long
journey. There will be reduced income in comparison to his efforts.
Sun in 6th house: The Sun in the 6th house with more points gives the person a
good personality. If the Sun is in the first 6 degrees, the person is brilliant and
has a good memory. It also indicates more expenses. If it has less points, the
person receives much respect in society.
Sun in 7th place: With more points, the Sun here will give good authority and
also good, accumulated wealth; more prone to accidents. With less points, it may
give some problem with the spouse. Business or work may be related to the
Sun.
Sun in 8th house: The Sun with more points here will give an unearned income;
good energy and stamina. But it will reduce the wealth. If it has less points,
relations with relatives will be good.
Sun in 9th house: With more points, the Sun here indicates good landed
property and a good house. Family happiness is also good. Person will have
good friendships with the opposite sex. Likes traveling. If with less points,
religious, charitable.
Sun in 10th house: When the Sun has more points a male native may become a
father in the sub of the Sun. Business may be related with the navamsha lord of
the Sun; good individuality.
Sun in 11th house: If the Sun has more points here, the person may get a good
job in the sub of the Sun; good relations. With less points, good education and
good accumulation of wealth.
Sun in 12th house: With more points here, the Sun can give marriage and
marital happiness; good success in any venture. If with less points, better
service; less education.
137
Moon:
For the Aries ascendant, the Moon is lord of the 4th house. It is the karkatva of
9th house matters. It gives marriage in its sub period. The Moon here also gives
good results for 7th and 11th house matters.
138
Moon in 5th house: When the Moon has more points, it gives friendship with the
opposite sex; obstructed income; delay in receiving dues. If there are less points,
it brings good health.
Moon in 6th house: It is in the third place from its own house. If situated in with
more points, It gives good results for the 9th and 1st houses. The person spends
his money in good deeds. It may give good progress in the place other than his
birth place or fathers place.
Moon in 7th house: With more points, the Moon gives a beautiful spouse, good
wealth, success, happiness and enjoyment in life.
Moon in 8th house: When the Moon is in Scorpio, there will be less happiness
from the mother. For an Aries ascendant, the 8th house is Scorpio. If the moon is
situated with more points here, there will be some loss indicated in hereditary
property. But, it gives good profits and good earning capabilities.
Moon in 9th house: With more points, the Moon gives good results for the 4th
house. Good reputation, religious nature; good marital happiness; good income.
Moon in 10th house: This position brings good results for the 1st, 5th, and 7th
houses. This means a pleasant and happy nature, good children and cooperative
wife. As it is situated in the 12th place from the 11th, there will be less income in
comparison to the effort put out.
Moon in 11th house: If with more points, the Moon here gives good will power,
and more than one source of income.
Moon in 12th house: When the Moon has more points in this house, there are
more expenses for show, some problem in the job arena. All disputes will be
solved by a calm and quiet mind. Gives a good and cooperative life partner.
Mars:
Mars is the lord of the 1st and 8th houses. It is a natural malefic and in the
sarvashtakavarga, it gets a total of 39 points only. For the Aries ascendant, it is
either the lord of D or E for the 3rd, , 4th, 8th, or 11th houses. So it will give results
in matters related to these areas in its sub period. It is a functional karaka for the
1st and 6th houses. So the individuality of an Aries ascendant is based on the
status of Mars. A strong Mars means a good personality. For an Aries ascendant,
Mars is good for results signified by the 3rd, 4th, 8th, and 11th houses.
139
140
Mars in 5th house: Mars here is in the sign of the Sun. With more points, there
is some birth problem at the time of delivery; there is less income in the sub of
Mars, but it can give good job in spite of this.
Mars in 6th house: Mars is the Functional karaka and Natural karaka for the 6th
house in this position. Its situation will enhance the chances of getting a good
job.
Mars in 7th house: In this position, Mars is the 8th lord situated in the 7th house,
which means the 8th lord is the 12th house from its house. If Mars has more
points, it will have malefic sight on the 10th,1st and 2nd houses. The spouse of
this person will dictate to him. It may bring on the death of the spouse in the
Jupiter main and Mars sub period. The person may get good results in his job or
work. There is a chance for going on a long tour.
Mars in 8th house: Here, Mars is in its own sign. If it has more points, the
person will get a chance to show his abilities, or he will get a job that he prefers.
Mars in 9th house: From this house, Mars aspects the 12th, 3rd and 4th houses.
If it has more points, it may give malefic results for these houses.
Mars in 10th house: Mars with more points in this position makes the person
prefer to work with fire or heat, such as Mechanical Engineering.
Mars in 11th house: Mars is House E for the sixth house, and is a karaka for the
6th house as well. If it has more points in this house, it enhances the effect of the
6th house. The person can overcome his enemies.
Mars in 12th house: It is the lord of the 1st house and is situated in the 12th from
its own house. It reduces the family happiness of the person.
Mercury :
For the Aries ascendant, Mercury is the lord of the 3rd and 6th houses. It is a
Functional karaka and also Natural karaka for the 8th and 11th houses. It brings
about results concerning the job, service, or authority in its sub period.
141
142
Mercury in 11th house: Here, Mercury is lord of House A when the focus goes
to the 11th house. It may give some reduction in marital happiness, but it
increases the strength to overcome the enemies.
Mercury in 12th house: From this house, it aspects its own 6th house. So there
may be some problem that needs to be faced regarding enemies, court matters
etc. Person overcomes his enemies but he has to spend more time on these
issues; has more relatives.
Jupiter:
Jupiter for the Aries lagna is the lord of the 9th and 12th houses. It is lord of House
E for family happiness when the focus goes to the 4th house, and also Lord of E
when the focus goes to the 7th house of marriage. It is lord of House D for 3rd
house matters, as well as lord of D for 12th house matters. Therefore Jupiter for
the Aries lagna always gives good results for marital life and family happiness.
143
Jupiter in 6th house: From here, Jupiter has its sight on the 12th house for which
it is lord of house D, so its sight is benefic on the 12th house. Again, it also has
its sight on the 10th and 2nd houses. For these both houses, it can give malefic
sight if it has more points. It brings obstructions to the luck of the native, but the
person eventually succeeds with the help of others.
Jupiter in 7th house: Its sight on the 11th, 1st and 3rd houses gives benefic
results for the 4th and 3rd house. It provides good happiness from the family and
gives one good enthusiasm for doing work.
Jupiter in 8th house: Increases the chances of a good income and provides one
with good strength for working.
Jupiter in 9th house: In this placement, it is in its own sign. It gives good landed
property and ones own house. Gives long distance tours and trips.
Jupiter in 10th house: Here, Jupiter is lord of the 12th house from the 10th house
position. Therefore, it reduces the authority and creates problems in the
workplace.
Jupiter in 11th house: It is House A for the 4th house focus. It is also lord of E for
4th house focus as well. Hence, good results for the 4th house. Good landed
property, and person owns his own home.
Jupiter in 12th house: It is lord of the 12th house as well as the 9th house. So it
gives good faith in religion. There is good prestige in society; person spends
money for religious work.
Venus:
For the Aries ascendant, Venus is the lord of the 2nd house and the 7th house. It
becomes the karaka for the 7th house of marriage and partnership and the 12th
house, which indicates bed comforts and foreign relations etc.. It is lord of house
D or E, which are more eager to give the results of house B, for the 5th, 9th, 10th,
and 2nd houses. Hence it can be said that Venus in its sub period gives the
results of the above houses in its sub period.
144
Venus in the navamsha of Moon: An unsteady mind; a well spoken person; life
partner is good looking,
Venus in the navamsha of Mars: A straight forward, learned person. More
attraction for the life partner; good health; likes bright colored clothing.
Venus in the navamsha of Mercury: There is a zeal to study any subject in
detail. Sometimes has a problem finding a life partner.
Venus in the navamsha of Jupiter: Quiet, thoughtful, likes to teach; Steady in
thought; overweight.
Venus in the navamsha of Venus: Likes music, the arts; sweet talk; likes
jokes; more focused on sex; likes to have all the modern amenities.
Venus in the navamsha of Saturn: There is more of a struggle to earn money.
Delayed marriage; less sex; there is always some dispute with the life partner.
145
Venus in 6th house: Coldness towards the spouse; some problem in the marital
life. Extra marital relations are also indicated. Good personality and good luck.
May have contacts with low class females; fear from enemies.
Venus in 7th house: Venus is in its own house here. It may give more authority.
Person is able to achieve the things he wants. If Venus is with Rahu or Ketu,
then there will be contacts with more females. If Jupiter aspects Venus, the
behavior will be limited in some way.
Venus in 8th house: Good income from lottery, unearned income, good daring.
This also gives some close relations with married women.
Venus in 9th house: Good landed property, good enjoyments in life. Good
character.
Venus in 10th house: Good education, good personality, man of low mentality,
may take emotional hold of the female he has close contact with.
Venus in 11th house: Increase in luck after marriage; earning from a position of
authority; foreign relations; relations with married women.
Venus in 12th house: More enjoyments in life; likes drinking and sex. Some
times person becomes an alcoholic. Love has no meaning for him; likes only the
sexual act itself.
Saturn:
Saturn is the lord of the 10th and 11th houses and is a karaka for the 3rd and 4th
houses. It is a slow moving planet, and delays the results of the third house from
it. If it is situated in the 5th house, it delays the marriage by a considerable period.
146
Saturn in 4th house: The 7th house from it is its own sign. Due to more points, it
may reduce the authority of the person. Gives one his own home. Also gives
marriage.
Saturn in 5th house: Since Saturn here aspects the 11th house from its position
in the 5th, it reduces the income and delays the marriage.
Saturn in 6th house: Saturn here makes the person more religious,
Saturn in 7th house: The person accumulates good wealth.
Saturn in 8th house: Saturn aspects the 2nd house from its position in the 8th,
with malefic sight which reduces the wealth, but still gives a good income.
Saturn in 9th house: Landed property, good property.
Saturn in 10th house: Saturn is in its own house here. Gives child birth; Good
education; work may be related to land, mines etc.
Saturn in 11th house: Gives good prestige in society. Wins out over his
enemies; dominates competitors.
Saturn in 12th house: Cool emotions and less sexual ability. More ethical; good
deeds; helps needy people; person sleeps late in the night.
147
LESSON 30
Some Laws for Delayed Marriages in Females
The following will be a brief lesson summarizing some of the laws that you should
observe when checking to see the status for marriage delay in a female chart.
1) Jupiter and Saturn are slow moving planets. So, if these planets are
malefically aspecting the 7th house of marriage in a female chart, the
marriage will be delayed.
2) A malefic Saturn in a chart means low points. If a malefic Saturn aspects
the 7th house or the lord of the 7th house, or is situated in the 7th house, it
will delay the marriage.
3) Venus either in conjunction with or in aspect to Saturn or Jupiter will delay
the marriage of the female.
4) A marriage will be delayed in a female chart if Mars is malefically aspected
by Saturn.
5) If Venus is aspected by 10th sight and also has the sight of Mars, the
marriage will be delayed.
6) Rahu in the 8th house can be a cause of delay in marriage and can also
give a child in the Rahu sub period, mostly in the main mahadasa of the
6th lord.
7) Rahu aspecting the 7th lord of marriage, also delays marriage.
8) If the Sun pairs with either Mars or the Moon and Mars has sight of malefic
Saturn, this can delay marriage.
9) Moon in the female chart enhances the effect of delay. If the Moon is in
the 12th house it will enhance the effects of a delayed marriage. More
specifically, if the Moon with Mars is placed in the 12th house and is
aspected by malefic Saturn, it will case much delay in marriage.
10) Mars and Rahu bring about destruction by their very nature if they afflict
either the 7th lord or the 7th house and can cause a delay in marriage. In
this instance, Mars should also be malefic. If Mars is the 6th house lord it is
considered malefic.
11) Saturn aspecting the 7th, 2nd and 11th houses or their lords, can result in a
delayed marriage as it is the natural tendency for Saturn to delay. If it has
148
less points, it may have benefic sight on these houses and yet there will
still be a delay.
12) If the 7th lord is malefic (meaning with less points) and is afflicted by either
Mars or Saturn, it will delay the marriage. Saturn aspecting all by itself
causes a big delay.
13) If the 2nd lord is afflicted heavily, it delays or deprives one of marriage.
14) If the 7th lord from the Lagna, Moon and the Karaka of marriage or Venus
is afflicted, the female will marry late.
15) Jupiter is said to be malefic when it is the 6th lord or it gets power from the
6th lord. if it is placed in the 3rd, 7th, 11th or 1st house, it can cause a delay if
the 7th house is also afflicted by Saturn. Here, both Jupiter and Saturn
should act at the same time.
16) The effect of Jupiter applies only to female charts. (For male charts,
Jupiter is the karaka for child birth.)
17) Saturn in the 5th delays marriage. Sights from other houses only on the 7th
house do not effect it. It should have sight on either the lords of the 2nd or
the 11th house. (Check the navamsha also)
18) Since Mars rules the sex life in females, the sight of malefic Saturn on
Mars delays marriage. If Saturn is malefic it has less points and when
benefic, it has more points, so the sight of a malefic Saturn becomes
benefic. In other words, if Mars is receiving benefic sight from Saturn, it
may cause delay. But, if the sight of Saturn is malefic, (Saturn casting
more points), it will not effect it.
19) If Venus is in the 10th house from Saturn, and Mars also aspects Venus,
the marriage will be delayed. As an example, Saturn is in the fourth place
from Venus and Mars is in an opposition to Saturn or Venus, or in the 3rd
sight of Saturn. (Mars aspects Venus if it is in the 6th, 7th, or 10th place
from Venus). If Saturn is in the 4th house from Venus, then Mars will be in
the 3rd, 4th or 7th house from Saturn. As per 4 -10 house relationships, if
Venus has more points than Saturn, Saturn will oppose Venus. If Saturn
has less points, it may receive power from Mars situated in 4th place from
it. If Mars has less points, it will increase the power of Saturn by 7th sight.
(Think on this. . . . you will get more information regarding the effects of
other laws later ).
149
20) In a female chart, Rahu has an important role as it afflicts Mars. If Rahu
aspects Mars, it changes the quality of Mars and may delay the marriage.
In some cases, it may also cause a miscarriage.
21) If Rahu aspects the 7th lord, it also delays the marriage.
22) Rahu situated in the 8th house delays marriage, but can also indicate a
pregnancy in its sub period.
23) If the Sun and Mars are situated in one sign and are aspected by Saturn,
it can delay the marriage. Similarly, Moon and Mars placed in one house
and receiving the sight of Saturn means delay in marriage. (For a male
chart we would consider the sight on Venus (specific case) and one of the
luminaries). The points of Saturn are not considered here, as malefic or
benefic sights both delay the marriage.
24) If Venus and Mars are both in one sign and are aspected by Saturn, it
indicates multiple close relationships with males. The closer the planets
are in degrees, the more frequent the increase in the number of
relationships. If Venus and Mars are further away than 25 degrees
however, it will indicate a lesser degree of interaction in this regard with
males.
The above laws, along with the other laws already given for delayed
marriages for both sexes, should be considered.
In a female chart, the planet Mars is the ruling planet to look at as Mars rules
the sex life for the female. So if such a Mars is acting malefically in the chart,
it should be considered. If the 7th lord is malefic and has the aspects of other
malefics as well, then delay in marriage in indicated. When Mars is free from
affliction, one may marry early. For example, if Saturn is the 7th lord and
aspected by Mars or vice versa, there will be a delay in the marriage.

LESSON 31
Discussions on Delay Causing Planets
The following lesson will help you narrow down the timing of an event thru
studying the slower moving, and therefore, delay causing planets such as
Saturn and Jupiter.
1) When Saturn aspects Houses A, B and C, we know that there will be a
full delay.
Example:
6
House
B
5
10
SATURN
11
House
D
3
House
C
2
House
A
12
Lagna
House
E
In this chart, the Lagna is Libra and Saturn is in the 5th house of Aquarius which
also rules Capricorn (House D). If there are no zeros at all in the SAV table, then
Saturn would cause a full delay up to 27.5 years, which would be the equivalent
of it occurring in the last 1/3 portion of its antar dasa.
The delay causing planet, Saturn, is modulated however according to these laws:
a) When Saturn also rules the Lord of D, (see chart above), it is now eager to
give results.
b) So, if the event (for example, marriage), takes place in the delay causing
planet and this planet is also the Lord of D or the Lord of E, then in spite of
the fact that it is normally a full delay causing planet, the event will take
place in the first 1/3 of its antar dasa due to its status as Lord of D or E.
c) If, however, there is one zero in the SAV table, then the delay will take
place in the second part of the antar dasa of the Lord of D only.
d) Similarly, if there are two zeros in the SAV table, the delay will be pushed
even further into the 3rd part of the Lord of Ds antar dasa and act in the
same manner as if there were no zeros in the SAV table and causing a full
delay.

152
LESSON 32
How To Find the Ideal Conception Time for Childbirth
The Moon travels 360 degrees in 27.25 days, which is one complete circle thru
each of the twelve signs. The same is true for a womans menstrual cycle.
When a woman has her menstrual cycle, find out what sign the Moon is in on that
first day and use that as the lagna starting point. It will take approximately 10
days to travel 4 signs. On the 11th day it will reach the 5th house, indicating the
most ideal time for conception to take place.
This can only be possible however, when the starting lagna is not being affected
by either Rahu or Mars. A healthy woman can have her menstrual cycle in the
same nakshatra every month. In case it falls in a house being affected by either
Rahu or Mars, she can then alter the timing of her periods by taking birth control
pills. Once the menstrual cycle falls in the proper house, then conception can
occur on the 11th day which is equivalent to the Moons travel from the 10th to the
16th Nakshatras every month for maximum fertility.
The travel of the moon thru the 5th house (house of child) and the 6th house
(House A for childbirth in a female chart) is the proper period for fertilizing a
womans egg.
The dasa must be favoring childbirth as well. If the dasa is of the 10th house lord
or its samdharmi, then it will produce a male child.
If the points in Houses 3, 6, 10 and 11 are in rising order, then the first child in a
male chart will generally be a female. The dasas in both male and female charts
must be in favor of childbirth to begin with.
There should not be a zero in the 9th house for either the male or female charts.
If Mars is placed in either house D or E, (2nd or 10th), there is more chance of a
miscarriage. This is also the case if Rahu is in either the 1st, 9th or 11th house.
The houses A, B, C, D and E, plus the nakshatras in those houses are all good
for conception, so the menstrual cycle should ultimately be in the 9th from these
houses.

MARRIAGE
Evaluate the chart by looking at the following:
a) Look at the position of all the planets.
b) Find out if there are any zeros in the SAV points (this chart has 1 zero for
Saturn in the 9th house. See Fig.1).
c) Look at the SAV points for the 1st house (here, it is 27 points).
d) Venus is in Pisces at 2305, conjunct Saturn. Its in the 7th navamsa sector
of Jupiters sign (Pisces) and in Mercurys nakshatra in the Rasi chart.
e) Check to see if the native is not mentally retarded. Usually people dont
mention it. Generally, a mentally retarded person is seen through the 3rd
lord in the 4th house or residing with the 4th lord; the 5th lord makes a 6:8
or 2:12 combination with the lagna lord; the 5th lord is in the second and
the Moon is being influenced by Rahu or Ketu; there is rarely 0 points in the
SAV.
f) Look at the relationship between the planets (Sun and Saturn are in 2:12;
Moon and Saturn are in 3:11; Jupiter and Mercury are in 6:8; Mars and
Venus are in 6:8).
g) Look at the points of the Moons house (31).
h) Look at sign the Moon is placed in - Capricorn. The Moon placement can
give indications about marital relations.
i) Look at the distance between the Sun and Venus (here its less then 43).
Now we look at the delay causing factors
Saturn is the 7th lord (House B) and Mercury is the 2nd and 11th lords (House A and
House C respectively). Saturn has no aspect on any of the houses concerned, but
Saturn aspects the 2nd house and is in the 8th which is the10th from the 11th (C).
This 4:10 relationship is very important. We know that a planet with low points
controls the 4th house. Saturn with only 3 points will have an effect on the 11th
house (house C) and will therefore cause a delay. Jupiter is in Cancer in the 12th
and in its own nakshatra. Its sight on Saturn can reduce the delay caused by Saturn.
The basic delay becomes 24 to 25 years.
156
We also know that Saturns sub period cannot give results because Saturn aspects
House A and planets aspecting any one of the houses A, B or C, cannot give results
unless they are Lord of D ( LOD) or Lord of E (LOE), or acting as samdharmi (SD) to
another planet.
Mars and Moon are LOD and LOE and Mars is powerful by getting points from the
Moon. It has 25 points in the Worksheet. But Mars, even if it is LOD, cannot give
results because it in the 12th position from its own house.
More considerations about delay:
! Remember the 4:10 rule. Here, Saturn with low points (3) in the 8th house, will
control the 11th (house C) because its in the 10th from the 11th.
! Planets in the navamsa of Saturn cannot cause delay. Saturn has no effect on
them.
! Jupiter, either exalted or debilitated, checks the delay of Saturn by aspect only
and not when it is with Saturn in the same sign, in his navamsa or nakshatra.
Note nevertheless the following cases where Jupiter cannot check the delay of
Saturn:

Look at other sub periods to find out which one can give results
Rahu represents Mars and Venus
Note that Mars is the 12th lord from the LOD. Although Mars has the highest points,
(25), for the 7th house (see below), it will not act because of its status as the 12th
lord from his own house. Venus has only 1 point for marriage (see Fig. 4) and Rahu
subperiod falls during this delay period.

This could make the girl very attractive and the parents could have arranged the
marriage as soon as possible. This has to be understood against the background of
the cultural context.
Looking at the relationship between the first and third houses and the first and ninth
houses, we see that the Lord of the first and the ninth are conjunct and close
together. The Lords of the first and the third have a 3:11 relationship. This indicates a
close relationship between the parents and the daughter and blessings, especially
from the father.
Looking at the day of the marriage, the Moon was transiting in Gemini, and was
therefore in her 5th house. (as discussed in lesson 33 in the paragraph on Muhurta.)
(Fig.8)
CHILDBIRTH
Evaluate the chart by looking at the following:
a) For any event, the Functional Karaka and the Natural Karaka should not be
afflicted and should get at least 12 points in the Worksheet. Here we look at
the points for the 5th house. We know that the lord of the 12th house, Saturn,
is also the karaka or the lord of A. In this case, Saturn is the Functional
Karaka (FK) and Jupiter is the Natural Karaka (NK).
b) The Lords of D and E also play an important role. They should not be afflicted.
c) The 8th house and its lord should be healthy and not afflicted.
d) Lastly we look at the 5th house. It should not be afflicted by Mars and/or Rahu.
162
If everything is OK, then, normally, there may be childbirth in the first sub period of a
strong significator or in the lords of D and E.
Some other considerations
a) If the points of the male chart are in rising order for the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th
houses, the first child is likely to be a female. Rising points in those houses
indicate more stress and this gives a female child (more stress = female child).
But this is not a strict rule. These houses are D,B,C,E as seen from house A,
using the 6th house as the focus house.
b) Childbirth. When the first and ninth lords are in a 5:9 relationship, it is said that
the person will receive blessings from his/her father/Guru. Such a thing
reduces the delay in a marriage and also helps in conceiving a child/children.
c) Zero points in the 9th house, or zero points in the 8th house for the female
chart can also deny childbirth.
d) In a male chart, conception occurring during the sub period of the 10th lord
often gives a male child, but this is not a strict rule.
163
for the 12th house (conception), so it will be eager to give results. As there is 1
zero, this happened in the second part of Jupiters antra.
b) Saturn: Saturn is aspecting House B for the 5th. Its samdharmi to Venus, so
Venus can give the results. Saturn itself has low points for the 5th and the
12th.
c) Mercury: Mercury has strong points for the 5th and 12th houses. It is also the
LOD for the 5th, so its more likely to give results.
d) Ketu: Ketu represents Venus, followed by the Venus period.
From this we can see that the subs of Jupiter and Mercury are eager to give results,
even if we only consider the fathers chart.
Birth of the children
The first child was a male, born in November of 1992 (conception around Feb. of
1992) which was the Jupiter-Jupiter period.
The second child was a female born in July of 1996 (conception around Oct/Nov of
1995) which was the Jupiter-Mercury period.
Transit of the Sun
Mercury and Venus have good points for the 5th in the Worksheet. They are both
LOD and LOE for the 5th house. When we change the focus to the 12th house as B,
Mars and Jupiter now become the Lords of D and E for the 12th. So we should
consider the transit of the Sun in one of those signs or nakshatras in order for
conception to take place. But we also have to check out the female spouses chart.
This is only the procedure for finding the possible date of conception and birth.
2) Female chart
In the female chart we also should consider the 11th house and the 5th house.
We see Mars has zero points for the 5th house. (see Figure 6).
Mars is Functional Karaka for the 3rd and 8th houses. (see Figure 7).
Mars is in the 6th house, for the 11th as the focus house, but being in Cancer with
only 2 points, it is useless because it is debilitated. For the 11th house, we should
therefore not consider Mars as having any power.
The first child was born in a Venus-Jupiter period and was conceived in a VenusRahu period.
The second child was born in a Venus-Saturn period and was conceived in the same
period.
164
Sub periods:
a) Rahu: Rahu represents Saturn and Saturn is in House E when the 11th house
is the focus. Saturn also has 5 points for the 4th, house C for conception. (see
Fig. 9)
Rahu also represents the Sun and is acting as samdharmi. Because of this
relationship, the sight of the Sun on the 11th house (for the 11th house focus)
should not been considered here.
b) Saturn: It is in House E for the 11th house focus, where it has 5 bindus, so it
cannot give bad results for the 11th, although it reduces the strength of the 6th
house (A)
Saturn here again is LOE for the 11th house focus and LOC for the 12th
house focus. (see Fig. 9)
c) Jupiter: Jupiter is LOD for the 5th. (see Fig. 8).
(Fig.9)
165
LESSON 35
STEPS FOR FINDING THE RIGHT DAY FOR AN EVENT
Job Related Topics
Part 3
We will now continue on with the male under discussion from Lesson 33.
To determine which kind of job the native is in we can look at the following:
a) The position of the 10th lord as seen from the Lagna, Sun and the Moon.
From the ascendant and the Moon, this is Venus and Venus is in Saturns
navamsa. From the Sun, the position of the 10th lord is Mars, who is also
in Saturns navamsa. This gives good ability for business. The native has
had his own IT business since 1999. (see Fig.1 Lesson 33).
b) We also look at the position of the Moon. The Moons relationship to Mars,
either by sign, nakshatra, navamsa and other divisional charts, will give
the native the ability to make quick and bold decisions. Here the Moon is
in Dhanishta, which is the nakshatra of Mars.
c) Points in the 3rd,6th,10th and 11th are best in rising order. This indicates
more daring and courage to invest in ones own business. We consider
these points from the ascendant, Sun and the Moon. Those points are
also considered in order to figure out the kind of income that the native
brings in and should be evaluated as follows:
1. Daily, and continuous income, (i.e., a shop owner, owner of
restaurant, etc.) is seen from the Lagna.
2. A fixed salary received on a particular day, such as with an
employed person, is evaluated from the Sun.
3. No regular income, or income only after completion of a task, such
as commissioned work, is seen in the points counted from the
Moon.
We can see that for this chart, from the lagna, the points are good, but as seen
from the Sun and the Moon, they fluctuate.
Once we consider the points in the 3rd,6th,10th and 11th houses from those
three different positions to evaluate the income, we also check the overall results
from the Lagna according to the points in the worksheet.
166
When a specific question arises, two essentials should be considered a) The mahadasa and antardasa that is running at the moment and the
strength of the antardasha planet in the worksheet for the houses related
to the income.
b) The transit of the slow moving planets, Jupiter and Saturn. This is a new
topic that has not been discussed previously.
(Fig 10)
167
In 1999, we see that transiting Saturn was travelling through his 9th house where
it has zero points. (see Figure 10)
Any malefic travelling in a house with zero points will give more worries with the
significator (karkatva) of that planet. Here we see that Saturn is the Functional
Karaka for the 11th and the 12th houses and is situated in the 10th from the 11th
house. (see Fig. 3 - Lesson 33)
In 1999, Jupiter was also travelling thru the 9th and has 5 bindus for that house.
(see Fig. 10)
To evaluate this transit we look at the points of both planets. Here, Jupiter has 5
points for the 9th house; Saturn has 0 points. Add them together. Therefore,
5+0= 5 points. The total should be a minimum of 8 points in order to give
favourable results.
Saturn stayed in Aries, the 9th house, for 2 1/2 years, so for this whole period
when Jupiter and Saturn were together, there were less than a total of 8 points.
168
By adding the points of both these planets we can evaluate the transit
much more accurately. If they total more then 8 points, then they can give
good results; if less than 8 points, they will give difficulties. (see Fig.10 for
all references to the above transits)
Overview of the transits together with the antardasa
Now we look at the points for the antardasa planets in the worksheet and
combine them with the total points received from the transits of Jupiter and
Saturn in the houses as they travel through them during that period.
If planets get high points in the worksheet and the transit point totals of Jupiter
and Saturn are more than 8, the result will be favorable.
! In 1998, the native moved from his Mercury antardasa, who has 20 points
in the worksheet for the 11th house, to his Ketu antardasa who is acting for
Venus, with only 13 points. He we see already that income is falling.
Jupiter was in Aquarius with 6 points and Saturn in Pisces with 3 points. If
the situation was still good in the beginning of that year, it changed when
Jupiter moved to Pisces where it only has 2 points. (see Fig.3 in Lesson
33).
! In 1999, with Jupiter in Pisces with 2 points and Saturn in Aries with 0
points, we see a dramatic drop in points. This could have been a crisis
period. The antardasa changed to Venus during that year but with only 2
points throughout the transit, it wouldve brought much worry.
! In 2000, Jupiter went to Aries with 5 points, but Saturn having 0 points
didnt bring much relief because the total amount was still less than 8
points.
! At the beginning of 2001, we see that Jupiter and Saturn had now moved
to Taurus with 7 and 4 points respectively and so we presume that the
beginning of that year was somewhat better. In the second half of the year
when Jupiter moved to Gemini, its points fell to only 2. Saturn and Jupiter
thus gave 6 points together. But we see that the Sun antardasa also
started in September and the Suns points are slightly better in the
worksheet and also indicates less expenses. The native could thus stay
afloat during that time.
! During 2002, Jupiter moved to Cancer where it has 6 points and Saturn
moved to Gemini where it has 3 points. This gives us a total of 9 points for
this transit with the start of the Moons antardasa. The Moon by itself has
enough points in the worksheet so that when both are taken together, we
can see that there was some improvement in the situation especially in the
second part of the year.
169
! In 2003 when Jupiter travelled through Cancer with 6 points and Leo with
6 points we can see that the total points of Jupiter and Saturn will be more
than 8 so better results were to be expected, especially in the Mars
antardasa which started in November 2003 and gives high points for the
11th house in the worksheet.
We must not forget that the native has a tendency to take big risks and make
daring decisions (Moon in Dhanishta and aspected by Mars) and that he
tends to spend large sums of money (Sun and Moon in opposed sign).
LESSON 36
Jupiter Delay Scenarios
Under what Conditions Will Jupiter cause a Delay?
Jupiter is normally a benefic planet and when its natal bindu points are less than 4, it
can never aspect malefically. Therefore, when its bindus are low, it will not contribute
in any manner to a Jupiter delay. So always look first to see what Jupiters natal bindu
points are before checking further into a Jupiter delay.
However, even Jupiter can aspect malefically, when its natal bindu score totals more
than 4 points. This is when we start to look for a possible Jupiter delay.
When this happens, Jupiter can cause a delay if it aspects Houses A and B, OR the
lords of A and B or combinations of both, in the natal and/or the navamsa charts. With
a Jupiter delay however, unlike a Saturn delay, House C is not required.
In the following cases below, we will present illustrative scenarios in both Southern
and Northern formats to show you how Jupiter can cause a delay.
NOTE:
For all scenarios, House B will be used as the 7th house focus here and House A will
be the 2nd house focus to keep things constant. This can be applied to any of the 12
houses however.
Also when considering malefic aspects of Jupiter, we ONLY consider the 5, 7 and 9
aspects, never the conjunction. Therefore, if Jupiter aspects one house or lord and
conjoins another house or lord it does NOT cause a delay.
In Scenario #2 (Fig 2 and 2A), we again have a Taurus lagna, with Jupiter going to the
12th house of Aries, with more than 4 bindus. The lords of A and B are Mercury and
Mars. Although Jupiter does not aspect either planet in the natal, it DOES aspect both
of them from its navamsa, so therefore we have a FULL DELAY.
In the third scenario (Fig.3), the Lagna is once again Taurus. The rulers of House A
and B are Mercury and Mars. Jupiter aspects both of these planets from its natal
position in the chart. Therefore we have a FULL DELAY.
In Scenario #4 (Fig.4), we have a Gemini lagna. Jupiter is in the first house with more
than 4 bindus. It malefically aspects House B and at the same time malefically aspects
the lord of House A, which is the Moon, who resides in the 5th house. Therefore we
have a FULL DELAY.
In Scenario #6 (Fig 6), we show another example of this special case but with Jupiter
now aspecting the B House malefically from its first house position with more than 4
bindus. Jupiter now OWNS the 2nd house in this example and because it does, it must
have less than 4 bindus in that house in order for it to cause a FULL DELAY.
