British Board of Film Classification


The British Board of film Classification also known as the BBFC, classify what age
rating and who can watch specific film, TV, adverts, trailers and other content
that comes with films, like what else is on the DVD.
The different age classifications:
U Universal meaning that all ages are allowed to enter. This means that
anyone can go and see it and there will be very little to no controversial themes
in the films.
PG - Parental Guidance meaning that all ages are allowed to enter admitted, but
some scenes may be unsuitable for young children, under the age of 8.
According to media like films and video games so may have a PG rating it may
contain anything to mild language to sex/drug references.
12 This rating means only people aged 12 and older can watch the film and no
one below. This category has since been discontinued and replaced by 12A.
Although, the films in this classification have the same contents as 12A films.
12A This is a relatively new age classification and means that anyone over the
age of 12 can watch the film but, anyone under the age of 12 can see it if
accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. Since this category is new, its only
on film releases past 2002. Films in this age classification can contain
discrimination, drugs, moderate language and nudity.
15 - Suitable only for people aged 15 and older meaning that no one younger
than 15 may it in a cinema. Films in this age classification can have adult
themes, drugs, and sexual references.
18 - Suitable only for people aged 18 or older, which means adults only. No one
under the age of 18 can see a film of that classification in a cinema. Films in this
age classification have everything from the previous classifications and more
with drugs being popular themes, explicit sex scenes and references, gory and
detailed violence is all included in the 18 classification.
Jack Reacher was a 15 Mild violence, language and some drug material.
Gone Girl was an 18 - Contains coarse language, strong bloody violence and
strong sex.
Shutter Island was a 15 Contained Strong language, bloody injury and
disturbing injuries.
