ABSTRACT

Clarita P. Maano, MD (2005) .The Development and Use of Modules in Teaching Post
Graduate Students at the Philippine General Hospital Dermatology Section. Masters
Thesis for the Degree of Master in Health Professions Education, National Teacher
Training Center for the Health Professions, University of the PhilippinesManila . 2 nd
Semester , SY 2004-2005.
Sampling in an evaluation research is generally conducted in order to permit he
detailed study of part, rather than the whole, of a population. The information derived from
the resulting sample is customarily employed to develop useful generalizations.

These generalizations may be in the form of estimates of one or more characteristics

associated with the population, or they may be concerned with estimates of the strength of
relationships between characteristics within the population.

This study

determined the gaps in education of post graduate students in the

Dermatology Section of the Philippine General Hospital which formed the basis for the
development of an appropriate training program to improve competence. The use of the

modular approach was utilized as this was the approach found to be most appropriate for the
specific student characteristics of the student population.

The teaching modules developed were used in the training of fifteen (15) post
graduate students at the Dermatology Section of the Philippine General Hospital, who was
enrolled during the training year January to December of 2004.
